Hi.

Oh aud, please tell us, you joker you.

So much going on and I'm out of the loop now. Still, I refuse to spend time reading hundreds of idiotic posts just to get to your collective posts on the rest of these boards.

I have been putting my FF retirement to good use. I just saved a bunch of money on my insurance. No, seriously. I just spent about 3-4 hours going over health insurance options online and filling out an online application. It looks like I'll be saving about $5,000 per year with a different plan for my family. That's pretty sad when you consider that what I currently have is a group rate AND the company pays for 15% of my premiums. The problem is that Megan, the kids are I are all healthy, but everyone else in the office is aged 50+ and has at least one major health issue.

My employer is thinking about sweetening the deal for me to keep me on the group plan. It probably saves the rest of them money just having me as part of the group.

We have that problem as well. Everyone in my office either has a kid that is constantly sick or getting injure or is Ken. The gentleman next to me with aids, so of course he's always sick. I'm the only one in the office that hasn't taken a vacation and everyone else has taken 2-3. I keep getting told I have to take 2 weeks before the en of the year (I have accumulated 3.5 weeks) but I can't take them because we can only have 1 person go on vacation at a time.

There's rate up parties now? I get one every 4-5 days I think, not many. I got 3 for my effed up grammar (for making fun of myself).

Will dropped his axe

I just attempted to make funnel cake. Just to demonstrate my cooking skills, I started to poor it into the oil and it scorched on impact. It was definitely not a pleasant experience. I'm letting the oil cool (and the kitchen de-smoke) and then it's round two!

Mmm burned funnel cake.

Seems Rappas unpleasant past month or two with family members has rubbed off on me. My dad goes in for a quadruple bypass on Tuesday.

Hope that surgury goes successfully. My parents are coming to visit this weekend and I have no idea what to prepare while they are here. I already made them my 5 star chili so I have to pick something else new and delicious. Might do the lasagna I made a while back, it was pretty good. Or I might be lazy and just take them out every night, lol.

Speaking of surgury, if you've been keeping tabs on my throat goings ons, my last appointment this week saw no real improvement in the little "bumps" on my vocal cords. They aren't getting any worse but not really any better either. My doctor prescribed me some allergy medication (which of course my insurance company is refusing to pay for again so I don't have it yet) in addition to the acid reflux stuff to see if that helps. If not, we have to decide if a "vocal cord scraping" is the way to go. That doesn't sound fun.

Ouch, Rappa. That sounds painful.

I went to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull today. I won't give out any spoilers, but it sucked. I went in with very low expectations, and was disappointed. I never really thought that it would be worse than Temple of Doom, but it was. -_-

Reminds me of Dr. Nick: Don't worry, this won't hurt a bit... until I jam this down your throat!

But yeah, there are no bigger crooks in this world than insurance companies. For health insurance, the original idea was to spread the risk of a huge medical bill among many premium payers. Therefore, everyone gets a consistent but manageable bill regardless of whether or not they get sick. Somewhere along the line, the middle-man, the companies that were just supposed collect, hold and then distribute that money --all for a reasonable cut of the action-- became the final say and ultimate power on all healthcare finances.

The only thing that was supposed to keep them in line, ie the free market ability to find another plan, has been undermined by
1. Legislation and unfair contracts that formalize their position as top-dog, and
2. Group plans that eliminate the free market (ie, you have the health plan that your employer gives you... no choice for most people).

I'll say it again. These companies were just supposed to be middle-men, piss-ant pencil pushers, the universal necessary evil of any bureaucracy. Now, they control what meds you get, what tests you get and what surgical procedures are available; not based on what's best, but on what's most cost-efficient for themselves.

I just made my first attempt at homemade caramel-corn. It was just the recipe from the back of a bag of Kraft caramels. It wasn't hard, just time consuming and messy... but oh man, was it good. Freshly popped stove-top popcorn with gooey caramel and chocolate, all of it still warm from the oven. You just have to try it.

I think this would be a good closer for a small dinner party. I'd bet it's an experience most guests have never had before.

I've been pushing the controller at my work to match my $50 donation to Fell's Juvenile Diabetes fund...and I just found out now work wants me to match their donation...they donated $2500 earlier this year, lol.

My response to them was "Well you must not have given enough because they still haven't found a cure"

I believe the facial expression he gave could roughly be translated to ">.>"

My brother in law has type 1 diabetes (since birth type) and when I first met him, it took some adjusting to watch him pull out a pen and stick himself with it at the dinner table.

I once stabbed a kid in the hand with a pencil in 5th grade.

What do you mean thats something different?

I'm used to it because my dad has been diabetic all his life so I frequently saw him inject/test etc during the day. Also one of my better friends in Atl had it even worse and she would test almost every hour. You get used to it pretty quickly really. The first time my dad went into shock though was a bit more difficult to get used to.

When I was in the hospital and NPO they had to check my blood sugar every 4 hours, that shit seriously sucks. Halfway through day 2 they'd run out of fingers to stick me with, so they were having to re-stick me on unhealed fingers. There's nothing I hate worse than a fingerstick either- I don't have any problem with ordinary blood draws, IVs, or anything, but get that little skin popper thing out and I just tense up.
