If you have a chance to get a high def widescreen, I suggest you take it. There are lots of cheap brands.. 400 and under for 27 inch, 500 and under for 32 inch.. Olevia comes to mind. You can always throw your old TV at a pawn shop or ebay to get a hundred bucks. It's absolutely positively worth it. The games seem like they were meant to widescreen to me and some of the games really... really look very good in higher resolution.

Widescreen is a very important element here... all the games support widescreen. Resistance for example will split the screen left to right, making 2 regular tvs to play off of... virtua fighter 3 will show more to the left and right, giving you a great arcade feel... and by the way... virtua fighter 3... looks... so... good... high def.

Won't even mention to blu-ray movie bonus because that's obvious.

Surprisingly enough, fight night round 3 and motorstorm, the best looking games seemed to benefit the least from high def, as they already looked amazing in standard def.

My brother has a setup that, and I'm totally serious here, is better than going to your average theater. The only thing better is an Imax. Huge HD Widescreen that takes up an entire wall, and a bitchin surround sound system to go with it. Oblivion looks/sounds especially amazing on it.

Careful with HDTVs. Many have upscaling issues with older formats, resulting in lag. Just something to consider if you want to use older consoles as well.

One thing i hate about people who own Widescreen, is that when they watch standard def stuff , they dont change the settings to make the image smaller. So everytime i watch TV its all stretched and ugly.

And yeah, upgrading to a 32" LCD soon. Just need the cash.

My TV had a mode that only stretched the periferal, which didn't bother me at all, the normal widescreen mode with standard stuff just blew balls.

I'm thinking of going with the 40inch samsung LCD that does 1080p, but I'm thinking a larger LCD will come out soon.

I had plasma for like the last 8 years, and it was ok, but its a fucking pain to move.

Right now, Samsung seems to be making the clearest plasma and LCDs with a nice price tag.

LCD is the way to go. Plasma is a little crisper, but they dont last verry long at all, and are way to easy to break. LCD isnt quite as good (less than 1% of a difference, but some people can see it) but it will last alot longer, and is generaly a better investment.

Both formats have ~30000 hour life spans.

Plasma has a MUCH MUCH greater chance of getting a burn-in image on the screen than LCD. So while technically they have really long lifespans, plasma generally has less because it's so easy to get a burn-in.

Oh, and DLP > all.

but from how i was explained when purchasing my 40 inch lcd and trying to decide between that and a 50 inch plasma was that plasmas have a gas inside that create the colors you see, and every 5 years it needs to be taken in to recharge the gas inside because it degrades in quality. this was told to me at the rental place i bought mine at and best buy

*whispers* It's the mirrors...

Front projector (assuming you have light control) > all.

Yeah, I hae a 32" Samsung and it's amazing. I can't believe I ever watched TV and played games on anything else lol

My 46-XBR2 1080p just plain ROCKS for gaming, I also have a Panasonic Plasma but thats 480p so its good for TV and DVD's

You mean Virtua Fighter 5 and yes, it looks incredibly good. ^^

I have a 50" Grand Wega SXRD 1080p and a 37" Olevia 720p/1080i.

65", HD-WS Mitsu here. I love that thing! Nothing like the superbowl in Hi-Def.
