Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I’m afraid too, if they don’t follow the book, then I will be force to hunt down the director.

Side Note: THEY NEED TO GO AND DO THE HOBBIT INTO A MOVIE.

Now maybe people will get the joke when they ask me a question, and i say 42.

I read somewhere that Peter Jackson was considering doing The Hobbit movie (after he had FINALLY received all of the Oscar's for Return of the King) so let's keep our fingers crossed <3

/em dresses up as a Taru and stands outside Mr. Jackson's New Zealand home just incase he begins casting...

I saw it with Halifirien, who's one of those devotee types while I've never read any of the books myself. He enjoyed it and was quite relieved to see it work as well as it did. Personally, I dig manic-depressive robots.

I've been reading the books for almost ten years now, and I enjoyed the movie. Anyone who has read So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish know where my handle is from. Pascal, don't worry if it doesn't follow the book. The book doesn't follow the radio show or the television show or any of the plays. The inconsistency in the plot was just one of Douglas' little idiosyncracies.

I agree with Mr. Wonko: there are so many versions of the Guide it would be hard to nail any particular one as "the right one." I've been a fan for years, and I was thrilled with the way they handled it. It's a fun romp.

I knew absolutely nothing about the series, and I thought it was great. It was actually a good movie that didnt involve drugs, killing, or boobies - and that ain't easy to pull off these days.

Especially Manic-Depressive Robots with Alan Rickman's voice.

Yes, that is the only reason I saw the movie.

Yes, I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Its an awesome movie, and I never knew you named yourself after the sane one Wonko :D

I'm a big fan of all forms of H2G2 and the movie lived up to every expectation, it was brilliant.

If youre expecting a direct recreation of the book, radio show or tv show then you will be disappointed. That isn'h how Douglas Adams ever did any form of it. Every one contradicts all the others many times over.

But the movie follows the spirit of H2G2 perfectly, and the casting was amazing :D

You all are far bigger fans than me, I’ve only read the books.

What IS your handle?

And I am DYING to see this film, if it is anywhere near the books it will be great, I just wanna see Marvin, and then later on, Agrajag.

if you didn't read the book some things will be lost on you... if you did some of the movie will be disappointing, frustrating and annoying... eg.. i waited very patiently for them to explain the towel thing, i knew the back story to the towel but anyone who hadn't read the book would be lost... you know, little stuff....

As far as the books go, the movie only really draws from the first one. Agrajag is not in it.

If you have only read the books, find the radio show online somewhere, it was the first H2G2 and the best imo.

The books were cobbled together with bits from certain episodes of the show, in different orders and with extra bits. The same can be said of the film. Every version draws from the H2G2 staples, plays around with them more, and makes it funny :)

If you have only read the books, you will get and love so many of the in-jokes in the movie, but I recommend seeking out the other versions.

I love the way they didnt explain every single joke, It makes it wonderful for all the fans who know about the things and can laugh to themselves :)

PS: I love that they left it open to do a sequel for The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe

Well - we saw it last night, and I was entertained ^^ I have aways loved sam Rockwell - and his performance as the President of the Universe, was probably his best yet - he rocks HARDCORE <3

I had never read the book - so the towel thing annoyed me...Josh (who had read the book - a loooooong time ago) couldn't remember it either, so IF ANYONE WANTS TO PM ME ABOUT THE TOWEL THING - I WILL LOVE YOU ALL NIGHT ^^ ;) seriously, out of the goodness of your hearts....

He also mentioned that the only thing he was disapointed in, was that they didn't spend as much time in the movie on those worms that you stick in your ear to translate all languages? He said in the book that chapter was very funny.

Other than that - I cannot wait for the sequels <3

The towel thing is that a towel is supposed to conatin like 1001 uses for a hitch hiker of the universe.

It isn't actually a worm, it's a babel fish, I have the book her.

In that chapter it has something to do with god,

"I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith and without faith, I am nothing,"

"But the babel fish is a dead give away, isn't it?" says Man, "It couldn't have evolved by chance, it proves you exist, so by your own arguements, you don't, QED(I have no idea what QED means)"

"Oh, I hadn't thought of that," says God, and promtly vanishes in a puff of logic,

"Oh, that was easy," says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.

The chapter is one of the best in the book ^^

i saw it but it was hard for me enjoy cause i ended up getting into a room with a retarded person. he repeated every word in that weird voice and half way through the movie he stood up ,walked down the row, stood there in the middle and stared down the aisle of empty seats for about ten minutes. very hard for me to accually pay attention to the movie but other then that its was good :D

I thought it was pretty mediocre. There were some funny things in the movie, the "mass" they had, the excerpts from the guide, etc. It did an okay job capturing the amusing ironies from the literature, but I think it could've been better. I also didn't like how the ending was happy; the fact that people actually cared about arthur kind of ruins it for me...

But, I must say, I'm glad they made Zaphod a stupid rockstar all the time, and I agree with you Jen, that was a good performance by Sam.

AHH, when I walked out of the movie there were a bunch of scary college kids with towels around their necks...I promptly left and my friend and I laughed pretty hard.

QED = something in Latin. It means that which is to be proved. You write it under things in math proofs and crap. I hate math.
