I was sitting on FFXI the other night and considered an idea. I don't know if it has been tried but I wanted to try it. I want to create a Linkshell that is kind of like a place to teach newbies. One that is built specifically for teaching proper etiquette and the uses of the tools in the game such as Macro's and whatnot. Make it kind of like an LS that you equip for class. A teacher has control (pearlsac) and teaches new people things they need to know. One could schedule classes and put it int he Lsmes. This was just a random brainstorm that I think would help control the amount of people who don't know -anything- about the game really. I mean, I've never been past 33, I've got 3 Jobs up there, RDM 31, WAR 30, and DRG 33, but I figure that's enough experience to teach a pre-Valkrum group. Just wondered what all you guys thought about it and was open to any ideas or constructive criticism.

Honestly, I think it would be a neat idea. I myself would be happy to help out new players in an organized fashion. The only thing is... isn't that what Mentors are for? New players know they can /tell Mentors for questions and advice, albeit some people should not have that Mentor sphere next to their name >.> Overall tho I do like the idea.

That's what the mentor system is for, but the vast majority of players don't use it. I think in the 3 months I wore my mentor status, I had a total of 2 questions from new players; and I took 3 jobs through the dunes/qufim durinf that time, so I was around new players. I think that they'd be more likely to ask linkshell members than some random person through a function they likely don't even know about.

There was a linkshell like that for Red Mages, but the members spent the majority of the time fighting between them selves.

If you do make a linkshell I'll gladly nab a pearl from you & start teaching. ^^;

I'd gladly help teach in that LS.

The thing with most of the newer people is that they don't know what a mentor is. I know before I got high enough to get it myself, I always thought it was some special LS that Miriya and Nibble were in. Once I got it, I had the status turned on until level 60ish and I had a total of 1 question.

Lately, I've been leveling all my jobs through the dunes and helping people with things. Simple things, but helped. Still have plenty of jobs to get through the dunes, though. x.X
