fuck this game
Since I haven't played much, arguably at all, since 2010, I am unsure on which jobs are good, which jobs are glued to you, and which jobs are necessities anymore. I'm back in FFXI, but I don't know which jobs (priority wise) I need to get to 99 first.

Obviously to anyone who ever knew me, I'm taking ninja to 99 first no if, ands, or buts about it, that's just the way it is. My major concern lies in what next, I love DRK so I'm almost sure it will follow in suit.

Now, the question really lies in this, should I take my mnk to 99 (even though my lolshura togi+1 will be pretty useless by now im sure), or should I take my Paladin to 99 (I hear their pretty much obsolete in tanking shit these days). I also was wondering if summoner or ranger would be a good fit to take to 99, I'm not sure, and I don't have much gear for either at the 75 range other then the gear from my whm and my war/drk/nin and other various gear I've incrued over my many years of playing the 75 cap.

So Quetzy natives, what the fuck do we need on this server?

I'd say DRG, but you aren't pro enough. DRK fits you baddies better.

Well Blaze, the tatter & scrap synergy system (search BGWiki for particulars) tends to leave at least some utility for old Abjuration/Sky gear, especially the +1s of the former. Shura Togi +1 can be augmented with Haste, Evasion, and Crit Hit Rate, which is far from terrible.

Last I checked, for example, Armadaberk with the right augments was still the best TP body piece for WAR and Scythe DRKs.

NIN/DNC with a decent set of Atmas is practically unkillable in Abyssea, so it makes for a decent farming job if you have a THF to back you up. Barring that, if you're looking to get the papers for your +1 Abyssea armor sets without too much outside assistance, level THF. With a decent Evasion set it's nearly as hard to kill (barring magic, and you can offset that with the stun Flourish) on THF/DNC, and given how easy it is to rack up some serious TH bonus these days, it makes for a noticeable improvement in drop rates.

MNK is a pretty good Abyssea tank, at least if you've got some support behind you. PLD is pretty neglected for most things unless you have Aegis or Ochain (Empyrean Shield, hellacious block rate and damage reduction, annoying to get but worth it for a lot of circumstances).

DRK is back up into the higher tier of DDs, particularly Great Sword DRK, with the changes to Last Resort (gogo 3 minute duration with Desperate Blows) and the addition of Resolution (new GS WS that can wreck faces). On top of that, Caladbolg, the Empyrean Great Sword, is pretty damned easy to get to 85 at least. 90 is a pain since that dragon sucks, and 95 is stupid expensive, but you can always just go down the Ragnarok path if you're willing to shell out the money for a 95 Calad, since the cost is about the same and the end result is better since they added Resolution.

I don't know much about RNG, to be honest, and while SMN used to be pretty much an auto-include for any high-end endgame content outside of Abyssea/Voidwatch, it looks like they nerfed Perfect Defense which would mean that the job is probably a lot less valued now. I could be wrong, of course; it has been some months since I've played.

Getting experience/merit points is the easy part these days, of course. Even with SE cracking down on RMT Fell Cleave parties, I reckon that the other various burns and exp options have picked up the slack. The annoying part is going to be getting your skills up where they belong, lol. You can get 75-99 in a day in a good burn alliance, but your skills will probably be down in the 80s, oddly enough.

Though at least they improved the skillup rate on Guard and Parry.

NIN in abyssea

Outside start with SAM or WAR if you're broke, DRK or THF if you're rich

Reason for this is that SAM and WAR have not-so-difficult (and free) empyrean weapons, whereas DRK and THF need relics to compete

DRG is also good but you need top-tier gear to compete, gear you can't get without having another job a lot more geared up than the DRG to realistically obtain
