Hockey 2008

Jeremy Roenick.

Lindros-LeClair-Roenick = Legion of doom if I remember right. It's been a while and "the legion of doom" did shit for me cuz they didn't win a championship. Far less memorable to me than Bobby Clarke and the the Broadstreet Bullies and I wasn't even alive then.

LOD = Lindros, LeClair and Renberg

Regardless, I hate them all.

That's right, Michael Renberg XD I didn't think Roenick was on the flyers back in the mid 90s. >.>

I may have been a Detroit fan all my life but I was hoping for a Montreal/Detroit playoff final.

As for whats going to happen now, its just as I predicted word for word. Dallas beat Anaheim because Anaheim got their rings last year and lacked heart just like I noticed all season. As for San Jose its the same old formula without enough tweaks and they fell off in the second round as per usual. I like San Jose but they need to seriously adjust more, but I love that Thorton.

Dallas I think will get knocked out in 5 games, but my heart tells me 6 simply because Detroit seems to falter a bit with weaker teams. And yes Dallas is a weaker team and lack the depth to compete with Detroit's skill and fantastic scouting. No one knew Franzen would be a monster in the playoffs thats just icing on the cake.

Regardless of who we face next round (it will be the penguins) I say Detroit wins regardless. Those east teams honestly don't have what it takes this year to win against the Red Wings' formula. If they win, then by all means they earned it because they just broke through the defensive line of Lidstrom, Chelios, Rafalski, and Sheneider. Not to mention Chris Osgood's .95 save percentage. And they had better bring a defensive line from hell to stop Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Holstrom, and the countless others that consistently score not to mention the grind line of Draper and McCarty.

The most dangerous team on the east still in it without doubt is the Penguins and its not because of Crosby(over rated). The man I worry about the most is Malkin, hes a beast.

Just my thoughts after watching all the teams when I could this season. I typically don't watch the Wings much in the regular season because of our slow it down style, so I watch other teams with players like Ovechkin to see the fancy plays.

I...hate you... Tim...

*still crying over last night*

How good is Malkin? God damn.

Watching ten years of shit hockey is paying dividends right now lol.

Yeah I can understand that. Basically people knew Malkin was extremely good when he was drafted in 3 years ago but he for some reason didn't really ignite until now. I guess he got sick of being a guy underestimated because he plays with Crosby. Whatever the case the guy is really playing out of his mind like Ovechkin did for his team last round.

As much as I personally think Pittsburgh will win this series, I am looking forward to game 2. Philly is not going down with out a fight. The best of 7 really is a good idea, its not like American football where its any given Sunday.

I can not say the same for the Dallas/Detroit series. It really would be a sweet surprise to see Dallas pull something out of their ass and beat Detroit. They should hire a hit man lol.

So how do you feel about the slash on Osgood last night? Seems like everyone I know has a different view.

Did Osgood hit Ribeiro in the face with the butt end of his stick on purpose?
Did Osgood take a dive, and if so he should get an academy award?

Did Ribeiro get frustrated, think Osgood hit him intentionally and make a huge mistake
slashing Osgood with two hands on the stick? The NHL will probably have some type of
punishment if this is the case.

In any case, I miss the days of hockey when they simply dropped their gloves and settled things like men. For a split second I thought Claude Lemieux was playing hockey again.

I agree about the fighting. I wish there was more in the playoffs like there seems to be in the regular season. For Pens-Flyers, it seemed like there was a scrum after every whistle, and at least one fight every game. Game 1 didn't really have that intensity until the Flyers started cheap shotting late.

I also thought Osgood getting whacked with the stick at the end was hilarious.

Osgood shouldn't have tried to mess with him. In turn, the other guy shouldn't have slashed him across the neck. There is no reason why someone should do that.

They both got fined, I think it was appropriate for what they did and I think the NHL did a good job in taking care of it.

GO PENS!!!

go fuck yourself man. ; ; we'll show up tuesday, hopefully. I mean, since they've decided to play half-assed hockey all of a sudden. Maybe I'll get lucky and a flyer will end a career for one of your players tuesday night ><;; tired of losing this close to the show.

They'll play better at the Wachovia center I'm sure. The only reason I'd give the Pens the edge in this series is that they simply don't lose at home anymore (February 24th was their last home loss, thats a long fucking time ago haha). The problem is, if the Flyers even cough up one game in Philly, coming back from 0-3 or even 1-3 is going to be a nearly impossible task, especially if Coburn is out for extended time (Haven't seen an official report on him yet).

He may be out for a while x.x and we lost a defenseman too. I agree though; They need a home-sweep here to even up the series. I mean, really both teams are good at home (Penguins with the better record). The person who wins the first away game wins the series.

I'm cheering for the Pens as well, but easy there Tim. Don't jinx it so soon! Streaks are always made to end.

The first line of a story on foxsports.com pretty much sums up last night:

This is how ridiculously good the Detroit Red Wings are playing: They lose the NHL's top scorer this postseason and their regular-season scoring leader steps up with the first hat trick of his entire career

Detroit is very good this year, but I think playing Dallas has not challenged them. Pittsburgh is also playing excellent and being the underdog it is an upset in the making.

When you compare Osgood to Fleury the stats are:
Osgood save percentage = 1.47 wins = 9
Fleury save percentage - 1.80 wins = 10

BTW, the poll on NHL.com
Which goaltender has performed the best thus far in the Conference Finals?
Osgood = 32.7
Fleury = 33.56

Guess the true hockey fans have spoken

I think both goalies have played pretty well thus far, but they are also both the beneficiaries of having excellent defense in front of them all playoffs for the most part. Before this round, I would have actually said that Biron was playing the best, and still after losing 2 games has only given up 7 goals with his top 2 Defensive players out.

(Albeit they've played 3 more games)
Biron has faced 453 shots
Fleury has faced 316
Osgood has faced 216

Still, a GAA of under 2 in the playoffs seems to be the ticket to the finals.
