Holy carp!

Anything that might improv fishing is INCREDIBLY exciting to me! <3 I have spent days where I fished for 2-3 hours and only caught 1 fish....in low level areas. :( I don't want for it to be EASY per say, but any improvement will be JOYOUS.

Nice, this is clearly intended to make fishing bots obsolete. And the good part is that unlike the stupid tax in Jeuno, this will be fun and players are probably gonna benefit from it! :)

Skillups more frequent.... hell yeah!

Now to get the dust off my fishing gear!

WHOW ^^ nice finally, some action while you falling sleep when fishing :P

it reminds me of Breath of Fire serie, and some other games that got fishing game.

will love it since i planning to be a fisherman :P

Damn. They couldn't wait to introduce these changes until after I got my Lu Shang's? :P

Anything that helps do away with fish botters is okay by me, though. I've worked hard to get to my current levels. I hate seeing some bot with a Lu Shang's hauling in the fish, even if I do laugh my butt off when a crab takes them out.

-In accordance with these changes, fishing skill will rise at twice the rate of the current system.

{All right!} This means that lower level fishers can ride with the big boys a lot faster now!

Hopefully they also increase the chance of a bite.

Fishing's still horribly boring when waiting for a bite, and it's not good if you have to focus on the game still.

Example: I usually fish while watching TV. I glance at the screen sometimes to recast my line if I didn't catch anything or to reply to LS speak or a /tell. I have headphones on so I can hear when I get a bite. With this new system, I can't just watch TV while fishing, as I need to do more than just hit one button so I need to pay attention to the game. So, if I only need to do something only once in a while but I need to constantly watch for that something, I get rather bored as I can't do something else while waiting for something in the game to happen.

I used to fish while lfg, same thing really but at least I'm DOING something productive fishing. Sadly, it got boring a bit fast and I got really annoyed at the frikin skill up rate, I don't give a damn about the bite rate, it's decent enough for me already. Now I can get a little action while lfg and laugh at how botters got screwed.

Thank god, yes! The fishing system before seemed pretty much designed to be botted. And it never worked! I broke more rods than I ever caught fish. And hopefully this will introduce some fun and skill into the fishing game!

Fun.

woot!! FISHING SOUNDS FUN NOW O.O

The question is, does this make fishing a PROFITABLE craft again? Most of the high-level fish still sell for next to nothing to vendors, and 2 of the 3 'adjusted' fish (Bream and Shark) never sell at auction. If they 'adjust' the selling price of Black Ink as well, that turns Sea Serpent Grotto into another zone where high level (both in job and in the craft) people can no longer make decent gil. I stopped fishing (and had my Lu up on the block) because the money just wasn't worth the time. I'll give fishing one more shot after the update. It just seems kinda disheartening that almost eight months of fishing for skill can't make me a constant gil/hr ratio.

Well fishing is always profitable, depending on how you look at it. In my case, instead of sitting in Jeuno staring at my screen wanting to xp, but too bored to do anything else like camp NM or fight, healmyelf, move to another place to find more mobs to kill for farming, I can sit my ass in one place, go lfg, do basically the same thing over and over, and still make gil doing it while leveling a craft. Mostly the reason I want to fish is to use in addition to my meager cooking skill (mostly for support I'm not serious about it) and for ink with my alchemy. It's also something to do to make gil while I go lfg or pass by a boring morning/late night. Now that fishing isn't going to be as boring as lfg (so it seems) and that I can actually get some skill ups, it's time to go fish master again, heh.

Damnit, stop teasing already and add the damn stuff S-E!

There's a big difference between 'profit' and PROFIT. With the cost of stuff going up almost daily, anything less than 20-25k/hr isn't really worth the time, since just about anyone can get that much via farming. Also remember that this fish-fighting system is going to make each hooked fish take longer to reel in due to the fight. Longer time per cast = fewer casts/hr which might = less profit, unless it's going to dramatically improve the catch rates. I definately don't want to spend 30 seconds of my fishing time fighting just to pull up a Rusty Bucket or a mob I'm going to have to fight, either. At least the ramped up skillups (or so they say) will make up for it.

Well, I'm hoping that for "dead" catches (items, gil, etc) you don't have to "fight" it at all, and mobs will probably come up easier than other fish as they want to get to you to kill you.

As for taking longer to reel in a fish, I'm guessing that it won't take any longer than 10-15 seconds from bite to catch/loss. If SE gets rid of the recast delay (so you can cast a line instantly instead of waiting for 5-10 seconds) and shortens the time spent waiting to see if you get something or not, this won't be much different for casts/hour.

Also, if you catch less fish/hour, chances are -everyone- catches less fish/hour. And if less fish get caught, less get made, and supply&demand makes the price go up.

And I'm really thinking that the bite rate will go up as well, so skilled players will be able to get more money.

Am i the only one who sees this as a nerf? i mean "fighting" a fish will obviously take at least 30 seconds... if not more... judging from how they word it... that means it takes even longer to recast and catch fish...

and making it easy... wut bullshit... i spent A FUCKING LONG TIME getting to 58...

Fishing is pretty dead nywayz... u cant catch nything worth shit... i mean... caps are gone too... so is bream...

kool stuff. this should hurt fishing bots...but best of all. i might actually start fishing cuz it might be fun =O

"-In accordance with these changes, fishing skill will rise at twice the rate of the current system. "

and that of course makes it even better :D

But if they get rid of that time where you cant cast after reeling one in, it'll balance out. If you can cast right after reeling it in, you lose almost 13 seconds.

The difference is, of course, that most of the money fish are sold to vendors, not other players (just about everything you catch on the boat, Nebs, Grimmonites and Squid get synthed into Black Ink and (normally) NPCd, and the already-nerfed Bream. The only really high-value high-level fish out there are Sole, Emperor Fish and occasionally Gavial Fish and Gigant Squid (for sushi). I don't know of a single Legendary that gets used outside of the occasional Titanictus sale.

And as for the between casts time disappearing? Not gonna happen. That's been the main perk of being higher-level.
