Ever have this happen to you?:

You're in an xp party. Things are going well for the first few mobs in the chain. Either you have a Ninja tank who doesn't need much healing, or a well played/equipped Paladin who is holding his own. The White Mage has plenty of MP, so things looks promising for chain 6, 7 etc...

Bang, out of nowhere, Holy hits the mob for a whopping 30 damage, at a cost of 100 MP. Then it happens on the next mob too. Pretty soon, the puller is slowing down to let the whm rest a bit, and the chain is over.

Even if the tank is really good, only the most bat-shit crazy puller is going to keep going when the whm only has 100ish MP at lv 50+. You might not need another 100 MP right now, but it's important as a safety factor and to keep the chain going as long as possible.

Even if you aren't in a pt that can kill fast enough to get chains above #5, conservation of whm MP will mean less down time between chains and more xp over time. If you want to skill up divine magic, try using Flash at the right moment, or at least Banish 1.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular, it's just something that happens too often and finally got to me.

I was in a party once on my WHM - fighting eruca - with such an insistently overachieving RDM (who Hasted everyone even if I'd just done so myself, ditto with Dia 2 which doesn't vary with enfeebling skill) that I didn't have much to do after Regen and Barfira (and the odd Flash or Cure 3/5), that I just shrugged my shoulders and started tossing out Banish 3 for lack of anything better to do.

But for most of my parties on WHM, I've got a bit more to do. And Holy is so horribly MP-inefficient anyway, all it's got going for it is its casting speed. And Flash is so much nicer for Divine skillups.

Hey man, we need to get our parse on too.

I dunno, I've thrown out holy, Banish 1-3, and flash in battle and haven't screwed the XP. I've even done it in a cannon party with 5 melee and me. Y'know what me-thinks? The whm you had sucked. Of course, I have two macro's to use so that I fully equip MP-heal + gear, use a cookie, and auto-heal. Some people don't have multiple sets of equipment.

You just made this topic because you wanted to use that pun in the title. ADMIT IT!

But yeah, it's okay for a whm to kinda goof off a lil bit in an xp pt as long as they know what they are doing. Though most whms don't, the kind that don't know the value of spells like Flash and just throw out huge Cures anytime someone's missing hp.

Hey now... withthe right gear settup Holy can do some serious Dmg. I mean it can get into the high 80's on an EXP mob!

Holy is a spell in FFXI?
*shakes head*

Believe it's lv50 whm/pld, 100mp, 0.5sec cast time.

With Apollo's Staff and a heavy (total: 100+) mnd build, it can almost do 300dmg if it's unresisted. It's great for blowing up aggro/linked mobs when you're PLing noobs, but aside from that it usually isn't worth the mp.

Well according to the theory of Fundamental Humour in Modern Forms of Entertainment published by Dr. John C. Scallywag (phD), the chances of this instance causing a moment of misunderstood sarcasm in one side's reply could instigate that the resolution can propagate down to-

Lol. XD

I wouldn't so much mind if it did remotely worthwhile damage, but considering 90% of the time it's gonna get resisted and do 37 damage for 100mp, I don't know why the crap some WHMs persist to do it. Hell, if they're doing it for the sake of skillup they should learn to toss more Flashes if anything.

Holy is fun on the rabbits outside of Ronfaure... <_<

Had one whm in a party who was excited about having their divine skill capped. And then I noticed why they had it capped. Banish here Banish II there! Holy! and then... afk to regain mp back. All of the divine skills were hitting for 5-30 damage. If the whm is more concentrated on divine skill capping than benefiting the party, it can be a problem.

I rarely used flash in a real party unless I wanted to tank. XD Flash is not as hate grabbing in merit parties but monsters are usually dead before there is a chance to use the spell.

Capping divine skill (without too much annoyance from other party members) is best in besieged with all the lvl 30s and 40s job/whm to cure people for points.

its good for kill shots in ballista.

its so puuurrtty..must use holy more!!

KInda sucks it does dinky damage..since it's one of the most powerful spells in ff games

That's just a side benefit.

Really.

>.>

But yes, a whm can screw around a little if things are going smoothly, but at least use some discretion. Flash can cause the mobs to miss on 1-2 attacks and pays for itself, and can be a life saver if used at a critical moment. Banish's MP cost is cheap(er). But lay off the freaking Holy. One-hundred MP is about 1-2 mobs worth of curing for a Ninja tank, that's a respectable amount of xp, especially if added up multiple times.

Sorry dmg was filtered but lolwhm...
