I just hate it, doing work at school for 7 hours then coming home to do more school work sometimes 1-2 hours as well. Just frustrating because when I'm done school for the day I'd like to go home to relax.

Oh and it seems on the weekends since we get a couple days off the teachers pile on extra work because we have more time to do it apparently.

Anyone else hate this stuff? =P

/end rant

I am just going to guess 14-15. Freshman in highschool.

In your senior years of high school teachers are supposed to give you atleast 2 hours of homework a night. I find it easy if you just don't do it

Actually I'm 16 in grade 11 second year of high school. Why does that matter?

Lol I wish it were that easy ><

I agree its stupid, but the teacher can only do so much teaching in a 40 minute period. Also some of the best things I've learned, I taught myself.

In college I have a 12 hour work load. 4 of those hours are spent in class, the rest is up to me to do on my own time.

It only gets worse. D:

He said that, because, its generally accepted, that by Grade 10 you would expect having at very least 3 hours of homework a night.

You do have more time to do it. Going to Neil's Party to see that chick from Math Class is no excuse in anyones eyes.

Mon-Fri are school days, Sat/Sun are days off school, Not days off responsibilities.

But what do I know anyways, 4 1/2 years of highschool and never did a lick of homework.

Lucky you :p.

14 hours in Uni and apparently we are meant to match that with outside work. Not that I do, although that's starting to change.

2 hours Russian a week, 2 hours Early European History, 2 Years Japanese Culture, 5 hours German, 2 hours TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).

I'm just happy that next year it'll be like 4 hours German and 2 hours of a module of my choice and just lots of independant studying outside of Uni times.

This is why you never sign up for TA/Honors/AP/whatever (unless you really do want a lot of work). Just coast on through high school with a C average in the dumbshit classes.

I had no such thing. Easy senior year 4tw.

Yes you're right, however I work hard during the week; Mon-Fri doing my homework and doing my work in class. When others are goofing around, I'm doing my work to get as much as possible that I can get done. I just feel that weekends are days off from school, because I have other things to do, chorse, work and things like that. Also I need time to relax, from all the RL responsibilties.

This is just my opinion though.

Your 16, you dont have many responsibilities, unless your living on your own. Far be it from me to say anything about how people live / deal with the grind.. But wait until you've got a 9-5, car/rent payments, food bills, living expenses ect.

Work now and play later, just do what you have to do (ie: Homework) then if you have spare time after thats all done, go out and enjoy yourself. But the days of "free living" are closing fast.

Heck I was out on my own, working and paying for my own apt by 19. Oh, and start saving money. Seriously lol.

(When did this turn from a homework thread to life advice >.>)

Also, not an attack, just a little reality check. I respect your opinion and I would hope you do the same.

I'm not sure how this is where you live, but in my high school in my senior year I had to do a year long project that was an additional stipulation for graduating. The school called it a "Senior Exhibition" and my school was the prototype to see how it worked first before implementing it across the district. The amount of research I had to do while having to do homework for my 6 classes along with other tests and projects was overwhelming. My final draft consisted of about 30 pages of research I did lol :( . Every student had to suck it up and do it, and by the end I was glad it was over. The whole point of the Senior Exhibition was to (for lack of better words) pop your cherry for college research projects in the future.

My senior year of high school was probably the easiest year for me, the only homework I got really, was from my Japanese class, and my English III Class (Yes, I failed it Junior year because my teacher lost my research paper D:)

The other teachers I had really didn't believe in homework. I had projects in both my English and Biology II class, but we usually had weeks at a time to do them, and due dates were very loose. I had better grades my senior year than I did my entire ride through high school.

I had two research papers that year for each of my English classes, for III it was on a book, and for IV, it was more of a story consisting of two situations of how we would be living after college, including salaries and shopping lists. The only difficult part about those was the fact that they were both at the end of the year, when "senioritis" really set in for me.

I'll give you two easy tips for homework success in highschool.

1. Don't be a lazy fuck and do you homework WHILE YOU ARE IN CLASS, or in another class you have time to do it in. I swear people are like 'Yea 20 mins of free time lets talk' Fuck that, ill do my history homework. Because 20 mins of w/e i can do at home > talking. Also if i ever got to school early (which when i rode with my friend one year i got there about 15-20 mins early each day) I'd work on homework. Idk about you but I don't even know where the hell I am before 9 oclock so id use that time to do homework.

2. Find someone whos about equally as smart as you or even better smarter than you and split up the work. Then copy w/e each other had but switch it up a lil so it doesnt look like you copied each other. Teacher don't look that close (atleast mine never did) and splitting up homework made shit go way faster.

By following these 2 easy steps I pretty much never had homework in high school (Or college, I'm technically still a senior but I do pseo at a tech college). I'm not kidding either. Everyones always like my god I hate homework it takes for ever and im just like what homework?

Also another useful tip thats good in algebra is to work on your homework while your teachers explaining the stuff. Because one youll finish it up early and two it helps to have the formulas all fresh and shit in your head at the time. Its nice too to know that instead of having 30 book problems to go home to you have all your shit done.

I don't know how well these tips will work for you in college because I'm doing PSEO at a tech school that is pretty similar to my highschool as far as class size and structure goes, but I wouldn't recommend the copying deal so much then because you sure wouldn't want to flunk a class you had to pay for because you were to lazy to do an hour of work.

Freshman and sophomore year, the homework thing was more of an excuse than learning that material. Completing it in class is really the best option. By junior/senior year, there was more emphasis applying and getting ready for college than homework. It might have helped that I did have a semester of volunteering in a hospital for two classes too (and still one of the best working experiences in my life).

Then again, the education system right now is the pits. Standardized tests do not account for much on learning but more of repetition. Testing is so narrow minded to three subjects that high school is cheated out on teaching what really matters (the goal of both high school and college is to have a piece of paper and get a job). College sciences beyond introductory classes: You are not prepared! (AP is watered down ) Reading comprehension and writing are important but everyone gets stuck in some college class that says everything learned in high school is wrong. =p

For now, do not worry about the short term. Complete the junk in class and focus on long term in whatever plans you have for after high school graduation.

Yeah I like your advice. I've started saving atm, I have a good amount so far, my friends like to spend all their money they make on stupid stuff like iPods, clothes and other stuff like that.

Thanks for the advice :)

Oh btw I'm Canadian and only go through 3 years of highschool. I'm not really familiar with the names you guys put on the years, except Freshman (First year I think lol). We don't use those terms, just Grade 'X'. =P

Freshmen - 9th Grade
Sophomore - 10th Grade
Junior - 11th Grade
Senior - 12th Grade

The same names are used for 1-4th year of college as well so a Freshmen in college would be a first year student, etc.
