I'm probably just too blurry eyed from staring at the computer during work... but I couldn't find a House thread. If there is one, please merge.

Last nights episode... wtf?!

Spoiler:

Why the fuck did they kill off my favourite new character!?

Spoiler:
Penn told Entertainment Weekly that Kutner's suicide was hatched because the real-life Penn wants to leave the show and work in the White House.

Exactly why that required killing off the character is something Penn may discuss this afternoon when he is scheduled for a conference call with the media.

I had assumed it had to do with the real actor leaving as I was watching it

I agree totally mire.

Yea I know he's working for Obama now which is bitchin' for him but...

Spoiler:

Why did they have to make it suicide?

Spoiler:
Who knows. Murder or suicide, 50/50 chance they picked one :P

Maybe they'll go somewhere with this, maybe they won't. We can only wait and see

My ridiculous prediction:
Foreman killed Kutner. You heard it here first.

Spoiler:
LOL that's where I was hoping they were going with it after House hoped he was murdered. Didn't the Foreman already try to kill himself and was tired of being one-upped by Kutner?

Spoiler:
I don't remember. I thought it was Taub with the previous suicide attempt. But it all makes sense to me. Foreman wanted to leave without fully checking inside when him and 13 went to find Kutner. After it all happened he started talking about his previous record or something, not quite sure because someone interrupted me when I was watching. And finally he seems the one hit hardest by this, he wants alone time.

tl;dr Foreman did it!

PS. Can you just edit the title to put spoilers in it so we can stop using the spoilers xD

Durr, I got the names mixed up. Naw, I like Foreman, not that weasely dude. He keeps trying to prove himself and fails at it.

Man fuck the spoiler tags, the whole thread has spoiler in the title.

But anyway, I actually really liked the episode. If nothing else, it contrasts against regular television which has predictable outcomes fitting into the nature of both status quo(preventing the show's formula from changing if it's considered "working") and upsetting the regular viewers. For example, in an episode of the Simpsons, Homer can't cheat on Marge, even if it's something that might actually happen in real life, because then then people might stop watching the show.

The suicide came sudden and without warning. While it's true that suicides often have clear cut warning signs, it's not always the case. Kutner himself would know what those warning signs would be, and if he truly didn't want to ask for help, he could disguise them. I like it because it felt like a real life event to me, not foreshadowed, not hinted at and not making sense completely. The only reasonable explanation being that Kutner was extremely adept at hiding his depression.

I had thought there was a lot under the character's surface not being shown, because he was clearly the only one on the show who was nearly equal to house in terms of intelligence, as was demonstrated by his deductive skills, yet the only personally he showed outward was lighthearted and shallow(I don't mean as a negative connotation). To me that showed something was off with the character(though I didn't see suicide coming), or perhaps it was just the actor's personality coming through.

I am sad to see him go as he was a great character and I like the actor. Though I must admit it's rare for me to be surprised by something on television. Wounded and nearly dying, some strange disease, a long drawn-out death even, sure. Don't think I've ever seen a main character just stumbled upon dead before.

I also think it's pretty obvious there was no murder and it was House just trying to make sense out of the senseless. I don't think he's been as shaken ever in the series - and I think it's going to have long term negative effects on the character. Most likely a depression.

They weren't until I asked for them!

Anyways, but yeah I think you're right. I don't really think it was murder, just making wacky predictions. Its House's way of dealing with things that he can't explain.

i really like how they "wrote him out" of the show. its not something you were expecting and its not something that we normally see everyday on any other show.

I think it was kind of random with no lead up. Not very good story writing. Unexpected yes, but they could have at least alluded to it.

Life doesn't always have foreshadowing, I think that's the point. They wanted to surprise you just like you'd be surprised if you walked in on one of your coworkers dead on the floor. If you had the slightest hint it was coming, it would not be so shocking. This was more lifelike than hollywood, and it was daring because not everyone is going to like that, but it was honest.

I can understand a shocker, but to me it was just "he has to leave, kill him off". Like, a crazy man walking into the hospital and shooting him in the head. It seemed like more of a cop out easy way to get him out of the show more than anything.

exactly.

What I am wondering is if they replace him, will anyone be making a return to houses team or will we get someone new?!?!

House off drugs... wow...

House will probably "die" to end the season.
