You know I could just as easily argue the the hole in the O-zone is letting out more UV rays than the O-zone should. Unfortunately the amount of emissions world wide are much larger than the hole. Once again though I could find a way to make the argument of it's over the Antarctic circle which happens to be cold so it must be releasing more UV because you don't hear about the southern ice caps melting.

A new study of glaciers in a portion of the Antarctic finds 84 percent of them have retreated over the past 50 years in response to a warmer climate.
That was in April of
2005

The Antarctic ice sheet is losing as much as 36 cubic miles of ice a year in a trend that scientists link to global warming, according to a new paper that provides the first evidence that the sheet's total mass is shrinking significantly.

The Earth takes in UV rays that heat the planet they then bounce out into space. The problem is greenhouse gases are trapping in more then the amount that stays in our atmosphere.
Why hello there global warming, which you just admitted to.
Now let me try and sum up your position(s):
1)Global warming isn't real because it's a cause championed by Al Gore.
2)Even if global warming is real it's no big deal to you because you live so far away from the Artic ice pack AND it won't have any effect on you or your generations hereafter until many centuries into the future.
3)Global warming is real and it's because the hoe in the ozone layer lets in too much ultraviolet radiation, which is trapped in the atmosphere by greenhouse gases.
Responses:
1) Nice ad hominem argument there. So by that logic, if Al Gore were suddenly to reverse his position and say that global warming isn't real then it must in fact be real?
3) Yes things fall out of holes as well as entering them but you fail to consider basic physics. First off, the thousands of miles of
white ice reflect a huge chunk of the UV radiation back into space. As the area of this ice is rapidly dimished, less UV radiation is bounced back into space. Secondly, seawater is dark blue, thus is
absords even more UV radiation, speeding up the melting process as the temperature of the water around the ice increases and causing even more UV radiation to be absorbed by the planet.
2) You really need to take some basic meteorology classes. Hell you're not too far from Purdue University and I know they meteorology program there. As I've already mentioned,
ocean currents are what drive the world's weather machine. These currents circulate both moisture and air masses (hot/cold bodies of air) around the entire globe. Do you think Illinois gets all its atmospheric moisture from Lake Michigan? LOL Please. Also mentioned earlier is the fact that when you dump trillions of cubic tons of freshwater into saltwater you disrupt the conveyor system because freshwater and saltwater have different densities. If you still don't think the atmospheric conditions in the polar regions affect weather conditions in Chicago, IL then look up and read about thermohaline circulation. You might also want to read up on the Younger Dryas, also known as the Little Ice Age. By your logic it also seems completely justifiable to do whatever the hell we want to the planet so long as it doesn't affect us or maybe our next two generations. Very mature and responsible outlook there.
Finally:
panic - a sudden overwhelming fear, with or without cause, that produces hysterical or irrational behavior, and that often spreads quickly through a group of persons or animals.
reasonable - capable of rational behavior, decision, etc.
Show me one instance where I said, "Oh my god it's the end of the world! Everyone must stop using electricity and cars!" You can't do it because I said it. You have the opinion that everyone who is a proponent of global warming is some kind of fear-mongering idiot. That being said, there is nothing irrational about taking small steps in your own life to reduce as many unnecessary carbon emissibles as possible. One of these simple steps would be for a single male, with no children, to buy a more efficient 35mpg+ vehicle versus a gas-guzzling SUV. The list could go on ad nauseum. Nor is it unreasonable to promote that other people do their part too since we all live on the same planet. That's called acting reasonable manner.
