how come BLMs get a bum rap?

Manaburning encouraged overnuking.
Soloing doesn't teach a party dynamic (duh)
TP burning negated the necessity for a Black mage in a party.

Fact.

The reason we blms are looked down on is because of the sheer amount of awesome that we contain.

Fact.

I'll admit that I was only seeking for an hour and it was late Monday night but still not one tell and there weren't enough low level players around for me to consider trying to make a party.(which I very well may do)

This I believe is the real reason you didn't get a tell that night. If you couldn't make a party, then it's likely other people couldn't either, which means nobody had any reason to be sending you a tell to party.

I used to love playing BLM, but in what's probably the last year, maybe two that I played, it became overshadowed by my blue mage. While it was still fun to do almost 3,000 damage to a flan on rare occasions, I had way more fun with BLU.

This was before people went pink bird mad though and people would do mamools or trolls now and then..

It doesn't help that they added colibri in the past, and with the level cap rising, all everyone ever does now is Ronfaure parties.....
Although I was recently in an unusual party with my BLM although they seemed a little surprised to see a BLM who could MB...

Maybe they'll add some BLM friendly exp mobs in the new expansion, something that isn't a colibri, or reflects magic back at you.

BLM's stopped getting tons of invites 4 years ago when people realized that SC+MB was an inefficient way to EXP; then ToAU came out, and most of the mobs are not mage friendly, further cementing the lack of need for BLM's in exp parties.

I leveled monk back when the only thing people cared about was doing distortion for the BLM, and the BLM's usually had a "holier than thou" attitude because they had Freeze. Back then, it was always a pain in the ass to even find a BLM willing to join a normal party, they all wanted to manaburn. I am not lamenting the loss of either; I used to cringe when I heard "let's make a skillchain" in a party, especially when there wasn't even a BLM in the party.

An idea for BLM's wanting "training" on how to MB: Join some friends working on points for either their WS quest or to unlock a weapon. You have people already making skillchains, so just hang out and toss a few spells.
