How do they pick what time to take servers down?

I mean come on!!!! This is the time of day most people are wanting to play? Why not do it early in the morning!!!! SHEESH!

so i gotta wait till 8 EST till i can play. After working all day in the sun, i like to sit back and relax to some FFXI before nine, usually 4 or 5 hours and i am good.

Why cant they do this in the freaking morning or even really late at night.

I think i already know the answer....its the Japanese, right?
 
Japanese downtime. Sucks for NA and Europe I guess too.
 
But what we are all wondering is how will this one update? if it's like the last one or twoish maybe i'll be helping with Bastok 8-1 and BLM AF Hat next week Thursday after about the 1320942.34039th failure on downloading. :( :(

How would you think that the JP would feel if it was the other way around?

Do you think they would do backflips in joy?

Or write upbeat country-western songs how good it is to have there own domestic game have downtime in there primetime?

You need to realize that JP made this game, and have had this first, so they deserve to decide when to maintance and update.

I don't think it really matters anyhow sicne most JP players I have been around, play 18hours a day like me.^^
 
There is no really good time to take it down, since you have US, NA, EU all playing, one way or the other you will be cutting into some bodies play time. What I find unusually, and really think SE needs to address is the lengths of the downtime. Out side of poor design and programming should it take 7 hours to do any kind of maintenance.
 
Actually its scheduled for the time period when the least number of people are statistically online. Check the Vanadiel Census.

{Uh!} NA Prime time is 6PM to 3AM EDT. We are currently in East Coast Prime Time. 6PM-11PM EDT, the game will not be back online until 1AM EDT. How is it going to be ready for our Prime Time?
 
i figured it would be up at 8 est....but still i usually play from 5 to 9......so now i get an hour to play....this sucks..

i agree they should figure some way to make the downtime not as long.....
 
According to the census, the time they do maintenance is actually when the server is least populated. Peak time being 7-8 PM local time. So it really only affects the EC. As far as I know, maintenance is over at 8 est, where did you see 1AM pascal? Did the increase it?
 
Omg just live with it for one god damn day and find something else to do. If you can't even cope for 1 day w/o the game you need to get help...

...It's only that way because that's when they do maintainance. :D

All kidding aside, you're right. They chose the time that is statistically the least burdening of all the times. However, it would be nice to see thier updates on a rotation so the same people are not getting the shaft. It reminds me of a buy I use to work with. His days off where Sunday and Monday, and when a National holiday popped up, he wouldn't have a three day weekend like the rest of us did...

I do, but didn't today.
 
I get up at about 3-4PM. At about 9PM I have to go to work. This has cut more then half of my 'prime time'. Prime time as I see it is after school gets out, and before people have to be in bed:

So as I see it 3PM - 12:00AM is the standard prime time for NA.
