I recorded most of Video games live but I'd like to edit the videos into 10 min parts(youtube limit D: ) and hopefully try to edit out my coughing. But sadly, I have no idea where to even begin on that stuff.

Windows Movie Maker can do that.

Apparently Windows movie maker can't use the file type that my dvds are. D: They're .vob or something.

Try Virtual Dub, it's open source, which means free. It's also pretty good.

Okay, I managed to convert them into proper formats but now when I try to save the edited movies in Windows movie maker it won't let me. It keeps saying...

"Windows movie maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, then try again"

The video I had converted is still saved to my desktop and still useable. I've tried multiple locations to save it and no have worked. And I just cleared 50 gigs off my laptop for space. I don't get it.

what setting are you saving them as, High quality and anything that doesnt show the exact file size the outcome will be will be a pretty big file size, you have to calculate in temporary file space for the conversion, so take the size of the original file and times it by 2 and add the final output file size to that and you will need that much space to save it.
