How do you fight Elementals as a Mage?

I am a level 25 Black Mage and ran across a Wind Elemental in Tahrongi the other day that registered as Easy Prey. I tried to take it on but it kept casting Silence on me so I had to zone because my +1 spoon wasn't going to be enough to take it down. What's the solution here? Use medicine to cure silence during the fight? (In which case wouldn't it just cast the same Silence spell again), switch to Melee class or just tackle these things when I'm a much higher level so I can resist Silence. Any help would be appreciated :)

Things will be easier when I level my RDM a bit more, but for a BLM Echo Drops, as always, are a must. I believe Fire and Blizzard are good for the Wind Elementals...and combining one with Elemental Seal should help.

At least with RDM I'll hit harder and have Silence in my arsenal.

I've only recently gotten into fighting elementals, so I'm sure someone else has better advice.

Wind elementals can be tough at a lower level, exactly because of that silence. In fact, they're possibly the toughest of all the elementals, outside Dark elementals. If you can silence them before they silence you, then you're set, otherwise you're toast. Other elementals will be easier for you, because they won't be using silence on you (silence is a wind-based spell)- for example, Earth elementals will use slow, and Water elementals poison.

As a BLM, your basic strategy is going to be to try to silence them right off the bat (doesn't always work with wind- as I mentioned, silence is aligned with wind, so they're highly resistant, and wind elementals love to spam blink too) and nuke with the element they're weak to. Having a staff instead of a wand may also help to do a bit more melee damage, but 95% of your damage will be from your spells.

As with everything else, it gets easier as you get higher. My husband sometimes hits an occasional wind elemental in La Thiene between ram hunting, and for him (level 52) he just uses one nuke (Blizzard 2), Aspirs to get his MP back, whacks it once with ice staff, and it's dead. He could farm forever like that, if there were just an unlimited supply of elementals, heh.

Keep in mind as you get up in level- the higher-level elementals have many nasty abilities that lower ones don't. For example, lightning elementals in Qufim always buff themselves with enthunder and shock spikes right after they spawn, and will use -ga spells and shock on you too.

Pull with silence and hope it sticks... or bring Echo Drops with you to cure yourself... mages should have these on them all the time anyways.

If you can silence an elemental Bind + Nuke can work also. At that level i'd be only going after <too weak> elementals on your own unless you're near a zone in case of emergency. Remember that Aspir and Drain can save your butt!

Only iwnd elementals have silence. Other then that mages have a real easy time on them. Just slap on a Bar spell, and debuff it to what its weak to. Say for wind elementals I cast Baraero, barsilena, haste, regen, blink, and stoneskin, then I paralyze him and go to work spaming any ice based spells I have.

Elemental Seal + Sleep can be a wonderful thing too. I do this when I fight elementals and start running out of mp.

On an EP wind elemental I would be suprised if it does stick unless you have enfeebling damn near capped and elemental sealed it, but even then i doubt it would last long, silence being wind based and them being highly wind resistent.

Thank you guys for all the great info :D Leave it to me to pick the ONE element out of all 6 that has Silence

Hehehe Telan. When I was lower level and wanted to face Eles in the Canyon, I would pull with: Elemental Seal > Silence. If that didnt stick then pray to to God you have enough MP to cast water on it non-stop. Also, the BLM 2 hour, cannot be interupted by anything, besides death  , so you can 2 hour, toss in a cure then warp out. Thats how I get out of sticky sittuations!  Coruse at level 51, I dont care what hits me, Ill prob die...

elementals are tough at that level for us POOR little blms... but gain a level or ten ( >,< ), you resist silence a lot more... normally at 30 you start to turn the tables, i start things off with a sealed silence and they drop like flies... and god knows, the spoon +1 can hurt when you let that tp loose... consider carrying a staff for earth crusher.. for wind throw blizzards at it, wind dark and light are the only ones worthwhile nowadays... how does ice, being only found in beaucadine-type areas get down to 1k? used to be 3k >,<

If you can, try to whittle at it with whatever weapon you have (wether it be club or staff). Both have an elemental TP skill obtained rather early, and that can help quite a bit in defeating elementals if magic doesn't quite cut it (Shining/Seraph strike does particularly well)

If your playing as a RDM, do not forget your enspell and 150 delay dagger!

/strokes his capped enfeeble skill ^^

i used to solo Coffer Mobs in Beadux as to farm, scroll drops such as WaterIV.

Stone Skin + Blink to Prep.

dependant on which kind of Quadav you pulled.
for pld, war, drk melee sort, i would pull with paralyze.

1st thing Bind folow with Sleep.

now to conserve MP i would sit

accidently hit Enter ><.

Continues....*

now to conserve MP hence no rdm. i would nuke then sleep then rest a tick of MP.

get up nuke and, rinse if mob is MP drainable Aspir should be used.

soloing as a blm, isnt as so much as hard its more how you approach it play it safe and there should be no problems.

i got 1 waterIV scroll in about 2 hrs have fun *^^*

*always have reraise, incase you screw up ;o*
