How fast is it possible to beat FFVII?

Hmmmm... I see... I'm still having trouble beating the turks @_@... I totally forgot to get barrier, thats why I'm so weak... I cant stand up to any of their attacks... I guess im gonna have to haste > Summonspells and hopefully beat them before I get mercilessly slaughtered... Its so hard fighting with underpowered characters @_@.
I thought that was an optional battle...cant you just run the other way?

I mastered FF7 with a total of over 100 hours, with all chars at at lvl 99, all materias and master ones, 6 golden chocobs S rank, and everything, but I also spent a lot of time just playing in Gold saucer for fun too.

Honestly though, it's been a lot of years since I last played FF7, don't remember how fast I beat it, maybe 20 or 30 something hours?

In my prime, I once beat FFVII without getting everything in 21 hours, give or take a few minutes. I cant stress enough, however, that I did -not- get everything, just the essentials to beat it. Sephiroth is beatable at 45, he's just tough as nails. And whatever you do, dont accidentally use a megalixer on him. I'd say about 30 minutes of that 21 hours was due in part to lengthy Super Nova cutscenes. But on a normal run through, attempting to get everything (Mastered Materia, beat Ruby and Emerald, Gold Chocobo, bonus weapons, limit breaks all that jazz), it usually takes me about 55-65 hours.

I have a save file in the northern crater ready to go for the endgame at 13 hours 14 minutes. That was an awesome game. Everything was insanely hard cuz I was underlevelled for nearly everything.

Actually, my party setup for the whole game was based around FFXI party tactics. I used cloud as a cover/counter tank and as such he was my main DD since his limit bar built insanely fast taking all those hits. I pumped his HP like crazy. He had 8500 HP endgame and he was only level 52. Sadly, he whole counter tank thing didn't really help against sephiroth... in fact, he dropped me to 1 hp (cloud was the only one alive) at one point in a fit of bad luck, but i pulled through and won.... but only cuz I had an x-potion queued for the next round lol.

Red XIII as my mage, pumped his magic scores and loaded him with so much materia that he only had 2300 hp when I fought Sapher Sephiroth. More or less he'd just spam Trine on opponents to make normal battles easy... and i'll say, that makes them go FAST. As another fine FFXI note, I kept RED XIII with his L2 limit set to use Blood Fang to drain MP. He ate MP like crazy, but hey, he basically had refresh. ^^

Tifa wasn't really all that useful in my group... If I play it through and go for a better time I think i'll use barret and build him into a ranger.

As a side note, I aimed to complete the game in as little time as possible, even if that meant not getting all the materia i should have had, and not mastering the ones I had. I was lucky to have even gained Life 2 by the end of the game... I only had 14000 more AP than I needed for it by the time Sephiroth came around. If anything, the lack of materia and good spells was what made it hard, but not once did I ever have to go back and level up cuz I couldn't finish off a bossfight.

Try it out sometime. Its way more fun than going for everything you can get and level 99 =D

I beat this a couple weeks ago... took me

5 RL days from Installation to Completion which included...
22:00 in game hours (this translates to about 44 real hours)
Level 69
Gold Chocobo
KoTR, Quadra Magic, Mime, and HP <-> MP
Emerald Weapon defeated (didn't attempt Ruby because Emerald wasted 2hrs)
Cloud, Barrets and Tifa's Final Limit Breaks and Weapons
80% of Enemy Skills learned

I think thats about it... this was my 2nd time through the game... first time through was when it came out... was nice to play through again.

Oh and one more thing Andreus...

BEFORE you enter the Northern Crater to fight Sephiroth SAVE your file on another slot. Because once you enter the Crater you cant come back out.

Yeah because I TOLD YOU.

Theres a guy on some site that beat it in one hour or somthing. He used glitches though, like the guy that beat Super Mario 64 in 20 minutes, LoZ OoT in one hour, etc..

Btw anyone interested in beating Emerald Weapon this is what I did...

Unequip every materia and equip the following back on...

Tifa: None
Barret: Phoenix
Cloud: [HP Absorb + KoTR] - Mime - WSummon - HP and MP Boosting materia's

You need KoTR to be at least on second stage before being able to use WSummon, so if you dont have it then don't equip WSummon.

I got Clouds HP down to a factor of XX77 before the fight by Transforming some monsters so they would only hit me for 1dmg. Then I used potions while in the world map by the submarine to get Clouds HP to 7777. I also had cloud's limit break ready to go at this point as well.

Then I fought Emerald weapon and took half his health off by using Lucky 7's. Then I used Omnislash (and Barret use Phoenix if anyone died).

After this I used KoTR x2 with Cloud and started to skip everyone elses turns and only used MIME with Cloud to keep miming KoTR and absorbing almost full HP because of the paired materia each time I used it.

Fun.

Hmm 63 hours with my team at 89 and all materia mastered and Emerald and Ruby beaten. Did a speed run to around 30 hours then spent the rest of the time power lvling my materia for copies. W-summon -> Kotr, mime, mime, mime weapons didn't stand a chance. :D

My only run through ff7 took 19 hours. I know I missed a lot, but that was back before I used game guides to find all the little stuff. Random battles annoyed me, so I didn't feel like going back and getting all the extras.

FFVII isn't a speed game! It's a 'brag to your friend that you have over 100 hours of gameplay on your clock because you have no life' kinda game.

I usually have every character to level 99, all limit breaks learnt (with the exception of one... *wink*), all materias, all master materias (without cheating with the guy in kalm), all ultimate weapons... Oh yeah, and a Chocobo stables full of goldies!

The sad thing is, by the time I've done all that, I forget I even have friends, so I have to brag about it to Vincent... :(

Although getting back on topic, there's supposed to be like what, 20 hours of cut scenes and general loading times, so I'd say realistically speaking, it would be possible in about 35 hours ish. But then again, I've never played for speed, so I couldn't really say.

Ps: I know my estimate is high, but I'm still thinkin of getting some sub missions done, maybe going for a final limit break or two, before defeating the big man in the crater.

I might aswell say my own strategy to beating ruby (emerald is {Too Weak} in my opinion, just w-magic ultima, quadra magic > master magic, mime with everyone else.)

My usual set up would be Cloud (durrrh!), Barret (uber limit), and Vincent who was my primary magic user, although you could change him for any other character that takes your fancy I suppose.

First preparations, make sure that Barret has his ultimate weapon (you can't go back and collect it if you never got it [i don't think]), and make sure that cloud and barret have their final limit breaks. Now you'll need the phoenix materia, final attack, and if you're unsure/get nervous during boss fights, my quadra magic + w-magic > ultima trick is a nice one to fall back on (hits ultima 8 times...). Also, if you're not afraid of cheating a little, you could use the w-item glitch and make yourself a few hundred mega-elixers.

Now, get your two least favorite characters to die. Yep you heard it, the best tactic to winning this fight is killing your two other characters and going in with one alive. Once ruby has done his attack which makes him stick his tentacles in the ground, phoenix down your characters back to life. Now you're ready to kick ass. Have cloud unleash omnislash on ruby, this should do a fair amount of damage, and have your magic user do his ultima attacks, and mime with barret till he has high enough limit break to unleash Catastrophe... Repeat till win :D

You are thinking of Xenosaga maybe. FF7 doesn't have anywhere near that much. Its a very short game if you don't explore every little corner and dark hole.

D'oh! I remember reading a blurb on a game and see'ing some crazy figure of how many hours of FMVs that game has... Or maybe it was a dream :S

Either way, it's not sposed to be a short game.

FFVII's bosses were half a bitch. One of the FF games that made you fight 2 bosses in one sitting. I never beat the game though... ; ; I was stuck on this part on Disc 2 when I had to go back to midgar. I didn't know how to cause the gate was locked. I was like level 50 on Disc 2 cause I just stood in one spot and leveled.

Ah excellent, a thread about my favorite game of all time, getting me into the final fantasy series as a whole.

In terms of speed, I'm not sure. I too am the kind of guy who just spends hours upon hours getting stuff. I went for quantity, not quality though. I've played through the game about 6 times and breeded gold chocobos in several of them. Only beat the emerald weapon in one, though, never beat ruby, and never trained master materia.

Oh, and in case you care, Kuro, at that point you had to fly over Midgar in the highwind. Everyone parachutes into the city.

I think during my speed run back in ol 97' was about 15-18 hours, I just remember looking at the clock and being out of Midgar in around three hours...

I remeber when I first played 7. I got pretty clsoe to the end(80+ hours) and it erased my game.

My mom thought someone died.
This is when I bought my first(and only) gameshark. You can get threw the game pretty quickly when your lvl 99.
