How many more?

Alrighty, we all know that the Final Fantasy XI world is far from over, very far. But how many more expansions do you think SE will pump out? I mean, MMORPGs last for a while, but "first timers" don't last that long, and if memory serves, SE is already working on a new MMORPG for the PS3 and I think it's for the PC, also.

Anyway, I'ver heard numerous times that this will be the last major expansion, but I don't believe that for one second. First of all, if this was to be the last expansion, you know damn well SE would go out bigger than this. Second, FFXI is still SEs biggest income of money besides the other FF games. Well...a static income at least. Just to ballpark it, I think there will be at least, at minimum, 2 other huge expansions, the last one being gimunghunormous :crazy:. Things like 3 or more jobs, a few new avatars, many new spells, JAs, WSs, and of course many new places to explore. If they would just do that, just 2 more expansions, I will be happy. What do you think?
 
I can't imagine that they would stop supporting XI until the player based dropped down to minimum levels. We're still one of the biggest MMO's out there, so I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Yea, I dont think FFXI is on its last legs by a long shot.
 
I'm sure FFXI still has a lot more to go through and add on to it, and will probably continue to release new expansions every year or two.

In my opinion, I think they should create an expansion as something like Gold Saucer from FF7. Perhaps make people pay a little extra for using that expansion since expansions can be charged extra, but with this expansion, you can play a whole lot of minigame-like casino games in which you may get a chance of gaining a lot of gil back or not. Although that might go against the TOS if they happened to do that, but it may be something neat to have.
A large amusement park in the Vana'Diel world, with Chocobo racing and one-on-one duels and such.

Who knows what SE has planned in the future for FFXI but with this new expansion and the Xbox 360 release coming, they can expect a lot of new players.

Yeah, that would be great. I do agree with you on the Gold Saucer thing, but I don't think they should charge extra. I don't complain about them charging for an MMORPG, but some people still complain just for that... Think what would happen if they added on to that. :shok:

I totally forgot about the 360 release. Yeah we'll be getting a lot of players from that, I've seen a few saying they're coming back because they bought a 360, and it'll be convienient for one reason or another. Woo!
 
Ultima Online the first true MMoRPG is still releasing expansion packs. My geuss they will so long as they are profitable (which can be a VERY long time) or they release an FF XI 2 or something.
 
Hell, Everquest just had a new expansion not to long ago, so even if FF XI2 comes out ever, they prolly will still have new expansions and content. Like Direwolf said, as long as it's profitable, it'll last.
 
Thsi question have an easy answer: FFXI won't be over untill I need 1 more 100c for the Excalibur upgrade. Cause everyone know this game hates me :D

And since I don't plan on spending 800mil ot upgrade it any time soon, it'll last a long LONG time \(^.^)/
 
Nice to hear everyone's thoughts. I read that comment about Ultima and felt a lot better about it, I had forgotten about that old game. I think it was IGN who said "Final Fantasy XI's next expansion (and presumably it's last)" so I got kind of worried. Eh...I never fancied IGN much anyway.
