i finally read it today think i am in trouble i forget about friends , family , work and school when i sit down to play 12 hours of final fantasy.

lol.. I read that the very first day I installed and started the game, back in October.

Yeah, Taruwaru put it pretty good.... it's either sad, or hillarious. To me its like seeing a 3 legged dog... and hell, I love animals. And Taco Bell. With Fire sauce! Huzzah!

lol, when i first read it, im like wow a warning......
but now its just "press enter, enter enter enter...."
not sure if that warning really helps the addiction tho........lol , but when i encounter people i know whos being too sucked into the game i let them know "dont forget about that warning!" hehe

Read it the first time I played, laughed, then pressed play and proceded to download updates for the next two and a half hours. And now I just press play everytime, without reading it.

That screen is just another example of how the devs slow down my game experience, if someone is addicted the little "friendly reminder" isn't really doing anything to stop it, and if that warning isn't for addicts, then who the heck is it for?

It's like the warning labels on DVDs or Music CDs, or CD-ROM, or whatver else there is, who the heck cares whether you violate the copyright law of Stockholm 1972, and even if you do gets busted, if you bought the media you can make a pretty good case for making a backup of it.

Useless labels, empty threads, laughable, and just slowing the user down for no reason at all.

To comment on ur post Aixla, this is actually really sad.

Tyrion is right, its to prevent lawsuits.

Is anyone familiar or remembers the Sean Wooly story? The guy was insanely addicted to EQ to the point that he wouldnt have contacts with friends or family for weeks. I think he lost his job, they never heard from him. Anyway, one day, Sean's n-game buddy backstabbed him and swindled him out of i think like all his gear and cash. Apparently Wooly felt betrayed to point that he committed suicide. His mother tried to sue either Verant or SOE at the time, and there was a lot of commotion swarming around online games. Annnyywyaayyyy, thats why that disclaimer is there.

It really is just a way for SE to shield them selves from lawsuits against them. They are worried that some one will sue saying that they mad the game too addicting and they lost their job and their girlfriend left them, because they just had to get to lvl 75.

I read it just about everytime I log in.

I looked at my actual in game time and maybe I should start paying attention to the warning.

Thanks to the RL lawyer.
:D

If there is something I have learned in my nearly 29 years, it is that if something seems strange or peculiar or whatever...You wonder why "they" input such a statement, or do an interesting thing...
The answer is money.

Lawsuits is more specifically the answer. Generally speaking, it's money.
They don't want to lose money.

Aye, Aye! Och... Aye!

Kinda like the time this 60-something year old homeless guy who my dad let stay with us for one month because he was an old friend (Don't ask...). He was talking about how he heard a story about this one... well... EverQuest Junkie.

Apparently, this guy was a high-level Necromancer (I'm not sure; I never really got into EQ. Despite having bought it, I never bothered to play it), and he had a pet that he had raised to a really high level, or something to that effect. Anyway, one day, this geek's pet dies. Dies for good. Grieving over the death of his little NPC, the guy actually sticks the barrel of a shotgun in his mouth, and pulls the trigger.

Committing suicide over an NPC?!?! Come on now!!

I don't know if that ol' hobo was bullshittin' me or not. But I think something like that is comical.

But anyway, I'm just waiting for someone like <Insert Random Name Of Person Being Flamed On The Flame Board> to pull that kinda crap. I'd find that hilarious, pathetic, and depressing at the same time.

...

The moral of the story is... well... uhh... I think SQUARE-ENIX put that disclaimer up there for a reason just like that. And yes, you're right. A "Lawsuit Issue"... My little "story" is a prime example of that.

Think of it this way...

SQUARE-ENIX (Unlike certain video game companies... *Cough*Gravity Corp.*Cough*) actually GIVES a shit about it's consumers. I mean, if we were all Beastmasters for no apparent reason one day, and we all get to a really high level (Like... Hypothetically... If Genkai 10 was out yet or something) and then we all got the ability to use Behemoth, Manticore, & Cactuar Familiars (Which would rock), then they died and all the Auction Houses sold out of them for good, then we all committed suicide... SQUARE-ENIX would end up losing money (Again) and this would be the SECOND highly anticipated Final Fantasy to become a major bomb (The "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" movie).

So... As long as we keep dishin' out the dough. SQUARE-ENIX has got our backs. Of course... Lord knows that's why they pushed the responsibility of schooling new players (Or as Villarel used to call them in our early days: "Initiates"... LOL) on us... And thus "Mentoring" was born.

...

Funny how I always have a little "story" to tell when I do big posts like these, huh?

err...that story was either trashed over time, your dad's friend didnt know what he was talking about, or some idiot who never played EQ made it up. It might have happened, but to my knowledge, theres only been one suicide caused by EQ, and that was Sean Wooly. Necromancers dont raise pets, they just summon em, their pets die time and time again. its no biggy. cant permanently lose a pet. This story sounds kinda bogus.

ohhhhh........wait there's a warning screen (blonde moment)? wow..........I must have really fast hand eye coordination...........

Oh yeah and about that EQ game incident wow its sad how ppl get so freakishly into the game that theyll commit suicide i have never payed the game but geez if EQ is anything like ffXI ITS A FREAKING PET big FREAKIN DEAL
And as for being cheated out of his stuff i'd get revenge!!!!!!!!

Well to be honest they did design it to be time consumeing. So I would not blame yourself for getting addicted. It takes time to put together a party and in later levels it gets worse cause you need more then just a white mage. Plus you got the constant AFKers. I think Square is just trying to cover themselves by saying " well, we did warn you."
