How much fun am I missing?

So I quit FFXI about 4 months or so ago because of some real life issues includeing I was spending too much time playing the game instead of living life, and also I could no longer afford the monthly fee or the internets. My main question, as I am currently looking to find a second job which would allow me to pay for the game and the internet again...and I am wondering how good is the new expansion? Is it worth coming back to after all of this time? Is the game still as much fun as it was when I left it behind so many months ago? Is the economy any better? Because when I left I was at the point of pulling my hair out because my level 100 cooking was making me almost no profit to speak of despite taking entire days to cook food and sell it through my 4 mules staged in Jeuno. So if you guys could give me the gist of the expansion and the situation in game economy-wise and everything I would appreciate it much.

Honestly, if you're considering getting a 2nd job just to pay for ingame time because of the new expansion, don't bother.

Some people like it, but it's mainly a fiasco, especially if you're asking for my personal experience.

What were they thinking? Oh, god, let's not explore a new area, let's take people to the past... Come on...

Anywho, it's far from being complete, it may get better, but i've been to the past 3x and it's more than enough to keep my main thought that we really didn't need an expansion at present time... Damn, the new jobs don't even have AF yet, and it's been well over 2 months.
 
I have to agree with Dejan about not getting a second job just to play the game :/ seems kinda silly to me, you'd be working yourself to death for a few hours of game play, that would just cut out on more time for RL things imho
 
the instruction manual is about 4 pages long(including table of contents..) so chances are SE wasted a ton of time while making it doing something else. Dancer is a very fun job according to all who try it though and campaign pretty much eliminates having to lfp since you could just do those for fun instead of waiting for a pt for exp. I just entered my first maw less than 30 minutes ago so i cant really say much else.
 
Honestly, don't bother.

Id quit if i didn't have my sky shell to do something with, only thing WotG did was gave jobs that cant get a merit party a way to get 5k and hour solo.

If you like leveling jobs, you cant get exp unless you can get a PL and solo, nearly every party now is full of horribly unskilled ppl with even worse gear for even worse exp.
 
I still find it fun, don't know if I'd work a second job for it but that's a personal decision.

As far as cooking goes, might just want to look on ffxiah.com. I either cook for skill-ups, or I cook the stuff I fish, which may be the only thing that makes it profitable so I'm not sure how most of the recipes are doing.

I wouldn't be getting the second job solely to play FFXI. I need a second job currently just to pay my bills but I am at a point where I would not need all of the money from a second job to pay my bills so I would have extra money floating around. I honestly just miss playing the game and laughing with all of my in game friends. And I was mostly wondering if coming back would have something more to offer me than what I was already aware of and my friends who are still playing. I may be in the minority here but I really enjoy leveling and doing stupid suicidal things, much like trying to get dragon meat drops from level 80+ dragons with 4 level 75s and and level 67. (still sorry you died like 4 times Mai I promise I will make it up to you somehow someday)
 
I'm not sure what your situation is like, but if you need a second job to pay your bills, maybe you would like to look into saving the extra money that came from your second job but not being used for bills.

Of course everyone needs some fun and all that so it's really up to you.

i kinda like the new expansion. Going to the past is interesting enough for me, because it answers "what was the war like".

Campaign battles are great for a DRK like me to have something fun to do while LFP.

Also, Dancer is very fun to play.

It can only get better.

it seems more middle level friendly too... since i am only 64, i can enjoy this expansion a lot. Unlike Aht Urghan which was fun for a bit... but had a QUICK cut off point for anyone who isn't level 75.

ToAU sucked pretty bad when it first came out too, the only thing it had was merits camps and 3 crappy assault ranks with no rewards.

We'll know a lot more about what this expansion can and will bring to the front lines of the game when we get the next update, which should be any time now. Probably within 1 or 2 weeks.

Not to mention we'll get that AV vide----Wait, what?

we do have a lot to look forward to in this next one:

AF for the new jobs.
More missions
More campaign OPs, more ranks.
Probably 5 new zones, maybe more
New gear
Rewards other than EXP/AN for Ops

What's not to like? Really, we do this every time an expansion comes out, and then 6 months later we look back and praise how good of an expansion it is. Hell, we're still spending more time in Zilart areas than any other in the game right now. That was in fucking 2003.

First off hi mea how you been, secondly I would say tht the expansion is just began if you remember it took them awhile to get the taou jobs af to. There is a reason for that, if you want back tract to when the taou jobs got there af to find out why. Also while there are many flaws and a lack of content except for campaign (which is pretty fun). Im sure there some set back lately due to all the current hacking and new content will be coming soon. Game though pretty much how you left it, and welcome back bard meghan.:wink:
 
i quit a year and a half ago.

i miss ffxi, but I dont come back because I:

1. dont have the time
2. have found other hobbies I enjoy equally.

FFXI was the shit, but I dont have the 8hrs a day anymore. playing guitar and surfing are fun for me..and I can do them when I have time, so thats where I put my obsessive tendencies.

just ask yourself "Why dont I play FFXI?", if you have a good list of reasons, dont go back. but if you answer "I dont know, I loved that game" then go back.

easy decision imo

I dont think they had AF out for the three Aht Urgan jobs till 6 months after TOAH came out. Honestly WotG just came out and all expansions are limited when they start out.
 
It is not worth getting a second job over. FFXI is still entertaining (fun might be pushing it). The past is no different really, at least, not yet.
