I know everyone in a sense is poor (except for Tilk because I just read his Jazper flame and he says he has so much money he doesn't know what to do with.).

But I ran into two situations recently where I just have to wonder how shady people are.

1) I'm killing sheep in the highlands helping some people with Stray Mary (or trying to). This /anon person messages me (don't really want to mention the pennyless man's name) and asks me for a warp 2. Now, I have a problem just being some warp taxi for any random stranger. I don't see white mages giving their teleports for free and I reason that warping/teleporting is a luxury, not a necessity (unlike raises :) which I'll always give for free). So I tell him very nicely "Well, I'll warp you for 500 gil because I had to pay 500 gil for my teleport"

(now this is pretty much what I'm deducing from his behaviour)

His response "I don't have that much money otherwise I would." And then he pretty much figures I'm camping Mary so I think this was just to get me to warp him more "Oh well, I guess I'll just camp Mary then." I'm like wtf? You're all the way in the dunes and you're just going to come to me to camp here? I told him "Go ahead." Knowing his plan didn't work, he said "How about 250 gil?" I'm guessing this guy is not going to give up, and I don't want to seem like a complete jackass so I tell him fine, but you come to me.

Now the guy is /anon so I'm stil thinking he's actually like level 20-25 because of the fact he's in the dunes and says he is able to camp Mary. So what happens? He shows up in Brigadine armour.....the guy is a higher level than ME. He gives me the 250 gil...and I warp him. Later I find out he's a 46 pally. Now how hard is it to gather 250 gil to not make me seem like a bastard and for you to pay your teleporting fee? I mean, it's nothing. 250 gil buys me 5 pineapples, or 6 water crystals...pretty worthless, but it's just the expectation I'm supposed to be some warp ***** just because I've reached my level. I don't think there's ANYONE in the high levels that has under 1000 gil. And if they do, they can go kill five humanoid mobs and get some easy gil to pay for whatever services they need. The guys HP was in Rabao.....I saved him how much time? and he still tries to make me believe he has no money.

I just find it very insulting to my intelligence and lazy. You know what though? Funny thing is, I just like the gesture. I'll generally warp people if I'm not in a party and they're close by and not out of the way. If they're far away, forget it, or they should pay some sort of TOKEN fee. It's just the gesture and the fact you're not trying to take advantage of people.

Yeah, long post? well, here's second one.

2) High level whm (still higher than me) sees I'm farming in Giddeus with a thief sub. Get this /tell out of nowhere and say So you're having any luck with Hoo? No, I'm farming. He replies, oh, that's great, can I ask you something? Remember this is a random person in JEUNO... He says:

-Can I have some necklaces?
What do you need them for?
-I need to level my clothcraft and I need 10 necklaces.
Umm..I'm kind of farming for myself
-I know but I'm stuck at a level and I need the necklaces.
Ok, well, what are you going to exchange then?
-Oh, I dont' have any gil otherwise I'd buy it.
Umm..then I'm sorry. If I have to give necklaces away for free, I'd have to give to my LS first. (mainly Sabia since she needs so many necklaces for her Utsemuni)

So my question for that is How many people would actually farm those necklaces and get to an AH and send them to a stranger for free? Because I felt really bad not doing it, but I'm farming for a reason..I'm getting poor. Ninja and Ranger are not cheap. I levelled my thief (painfully) to 15 for that reason. I may have been in a bad mood because it was back to back with that cheap Paladin, but I'm just wondering, how is not possible for people in the level 40s not to have SOME cash. I don't mean like 100k or even 10k, but I figure everyone's found a way to make a little cash to keep them above 1k.

(extremely long post, but this ranting is therapeutic so I can continue to keep my nice calm tarutaru demeanor in the game :D )

Here, here! Good post, and I think a -lot- of that needed to be said. I don't think there's any excuse why you can't have any gil after you're able to attain a subjob (if you have a job in the 18-20 range), and ESPECIALLY once you hit level 30 in -ONE- job! I preach this to my linkshell, although I do like to help them out as much as possible (and I am supporting 4 jobs with as good as gear as I can afford), I have to help myself too!
There are SO many things to do in the game where you can get money from doing it. Farming is only one way to make money, and it's one of the simplest. The concept it easy: go to an area where you can roll through mobs, collect items they drop, and sell them for profit at the AH or in your Bazaar. 1 hour of farming for somebody without a Treasure Hunter can probably yield about 10k worth of gil if you're not even good at it.
I can't stand when I see people too lazy to take their time to at least purchase the proper tools for their job. I can understand missing the latest damage spell or status cure spell for BLM or WHM, but how the hell can you continue leveling when you're as much as 8-10 spells behind? Or if your armor for your warrior or PLD is 8-10 levels behind? You're not only cheating yourself, you're cheating all those who chose to party with you and by being out of date, you bring in lower EXP per hour usually. One of the major purposes of leveling up is to purchase new equipment and upgrade your character. If you can't take time to properly upgrade your character, or keep pace, go back and catch up, please!

An annology I feel fits here is... if you're going to a gunfight, don't bring a knife. Keep yourself updated at least within a reasonable amount of levels and equipment (this doesn't mean RDM MUST have dispel at 32, WHM MUST have Erase whenever they get it, and THF MUST have Emperor's Hairpin at 24). Next time you're LFGing for an hour or two, just remember you could've spent that time doing something productive to help you get more invites in the future ^^

(Note: This post by me was also needed to maintain me wonderful ingame demeanor! ^^)

Sadly Rune, having all that gear doesnt help much when you are LFP. Now me, I usually never get below 100k at any given time, I feel scared when Im even close to be honest. But its funny that im sitting here level 25 Ranger, Emp Hairpin, Leaping Boots, best arrows i can use, all the best gear i can get, dual archer and hawkers when im ready, and ill be looking for a group for hours. Its sad that all that gear cant help when you are LFP with a group of people that are not who you "grew up" with.

Gotta spend money to make (have) money. I found it incredibly easy to raise enough cash to do stuff in FFXI, but perhaps that's because I compared it to the beginnings of EQ. Then again NA players joined an already working economy (be it as it may) and this had the advantage that items they could obtain were in demand.

All in all it was unchallenging to come up wth gil, and no, I didn't fish bot, heh, by finishing never extended beyond casting that looted bamboo rod a couple times. That's how long fishing was able to keep my attention, there ought to be an old post I made about fishing around here somewhere.

It is hard to even mention how poor I am. I am always poor. My current gil in my mog house is around 100k. Sounds alot yes? Well not really. I farm alot during my week days due to the fact that I live in Europe. Euro prime time as some of you know doesn't have much people to go level, do missions and such. My LS is not exactly an Euro LS. Its actually a JP Linkshell who plays mostly on my prime time (they have jobs late at night).

I have both Rdm and Mnk passed 70 which means I have to upgreade gears to both jobs to be of any use. Which doesn't come cheap. I bought full set of Rdm and Mnk 72 armor resulting my fund to go from 300k to 100k in a matter of minuit. I am still missing some gear for Mnk, one ring costs 90k so there... I am also doing some crafting. Currently 61 cooking and 24 cloth. Crafting doesn't come cheap specially cooking makes life hard if some bot goes to the guild buys all the available recepies and put his bazaar just outside the guild.

im dirt poor, at level 48 alone i am getting hit with about 80k in spells alone,,, i have to buy darkstaff, and other stuff, i need a new set of earings, and maybe some astral rings for my bard.

im also 1/12 on hoo mjuu the torrent..... hoe wont drop

Ok, I noticed some people have admitted they are poor (who isn't at one point). But are you like under 1000 gil poor? I know at high levels, EVERYTHING costs LOTS AND LOTS of money.

I'm just annoyed at people who can't pony up the tiny bits of gil and expect me to be the Good Will Taru whenever they ask. Some people are very rude when I try to politely decline them.

I'll just ask this one question then. If you are level 45+ and you're SUPER poor, (under 1500 gil), would you expect white mages for a charity freebie teleport? That was my big problem with a 46 level paladin asking for a free warp off me when I have to pay every white mage for them to teleport me to a crag.

I'm always getting hit up for port requests when I'm in San'd. Guess they don't realize I'm:

a. Busy crafting.
b. Not bound in San'd and I'll be damned if I spend 15 minutes chocoing back to San'd after porting them.
c. Didn't buy ports for someone elses convenience. I bought them for mine and whomever I may be grouping with at the time.

I don't do anon so anymore I just put comments up to the like "Leave me the poo alone. I'm crafting." messages.

Some people get pretty upset but I used to choco everywhere pre-36. They can level up a white or do the same I suppose.

I Can't believe that someone at that lvl wouldn't have $500 gil. I would bet that he was lying. The least he could've done is give you something that he farmed that is worth around that.

Personally I think that he was lying, but some ppl do that.

I always have some gil on me. Even after a shopping spree, I make sure that I atleast have 5k left. It's not tough to make $$, just time consuming.

hahahaha under 1000G poor? Try under 500. ; ;

Yesterday I was even under 200 and couldn't afford an airship. ^^;; Actually if you want an exact number of how poor I was last night I think my low was 38G. Yes.... I am a very poor taru.

POING!!!! That's it!! I am keeping you in my pocket when we do HNM's.

Um.... Jazper I don't think I fit in your pocket O.o
Taru may be short, but in case you haven't noticed we're a little pudgy... I think I've had one too many melon pies  . I might be able to fit in Tenkax's pocket ... but God knows no one wants to be near Tenkax during sexy time.

As for your question, no I wouldn't expect random white mages to give me a charity teleport. Thats why I make friends with white mages. Friends port friends for free. :P

*Subligar*

ROFL    ITS SEXY TIME!!!!!! Do Subligars have pockets? I think there might be one in the front... but only on female subligars.

I don't blame you for wanting to charge for Warp 2. The guy should have killed gobs in dunes to gather that much money. It would have been easy to do.

I was in Marshlands on chocobo when out of the blue I get a tell for Teleport Mea. I was WHM with theif subbed. I ignored the stupid tell cause I wanted to farm and needed cash for spells. I have not leveled WHM in awhile and been wanting to get back in the leveling game. I get the tell again "teleport mea, do you have it" I continued to ignore it. I should have been anon but I am really tired of going anon. How hard is it to deduce that a WHM with theif subbed is intent on farming and not being a Tele-taxi. The nerve of some people. If I gave him Mea I would have to Teleport Dem and ride all the way back which I was in no mood to do. He would have to offer me some kind of cash worth my time to even attempt teleporting him. I doubt he would have not done that and 500 gil is not worth it.

I've never had a problem making gil. Granted early on I couldn't afford leaping boots and all +1 equip, but I always had the latest everything, and I was never under 20k.

Now I'm never under 50k, but I've still got like 300k worth of silver chains waiting to be desynthed when I get around to doing it. I just quit BLM for now and am going to play around with NIN/WAR for awhile. I think my blm gear will put me at about 750k once it all sells. That should give me a good start on NIN.

Oh, I primarily mine for my gil. It seems to give me more money than anyone I know, even other miners? lol

Part of the reason why I switched to Mnk from Rdm (aka the most demanded job to a one of the longest LFG job) is for farming purpose. I farm with my whm friend and we usually share our gils to buy big cash stuff. Rdm and whm is a nice farming PT but it is slow... we killed things too slow to be able to afford some big stuffs. Since my whm friend were busy at his job during the weekend, I have lvled my dusted mnk who at the time my Rdm lvled to 70 was 32. Afeter 40 levels of hell, coping with bad groups, no invites, extensive farming for good gear I am now 72 mnk aswell as 71 rdm. I farm much much faster with my whm and biggest thing was we can do a 2 men light skill chain that can kill descent cons with ease.

This was a big step, we went to gil farm places we could never do as rdm whm. And as mnk, subbing thf won't drop their performance. We have taken a couple of Nms, strong mobs for loot (like Strong orcs... orcish champs and such).

Reason I don't mine is because every one is doing it. We prefer less, but steady gil flow than having to fight with loads of competitors.

I've noticed that the price dropped from 1500 to 1000 to 500. Why is that? When I get to level 36 you better believe that I'll be charging random idiots 1000.

I guess I just realized another point. When people are ASKING you for a favour and then that person asking is trying to make you do the favour at a low price, isn't that just a double smack? Oh, can I inconvience you and get you to teleport me (or whatever) and.....can you do it for me cheap?

I was just noticing, yeah, if someone is putting out shouts advertising themselves they area teleporting machine, I suppose you can try to negotiate with them since they are a merchant at that point providing a service. But you can't expect to ask people for a service out of their way....and expect them to do it for cost. Like someone said before, make friends with people who teleport. I will warp anyone I know (AND LIKE) in the game.....but I won't warp random people looking for a handout.
