Would you accept help from a gil seller?

Ok, this is a spin-off from my long rant on the flameboards....

Tonight...I partied. It wasn't a very good party. Read about it in the flameboards. To make a long story short.... we encountered gil sellers.. and they raised some of my party members because they wouldn't settle for a Raise 1. So they gave them Raise 3s seeing how they're all high and mighty with their gil and levels.

We're partying and I die. I ask my party for a Raise 1. This is on my blm that is level 58. They're all "Why? Why? Why?" Only Cowbox and Shagrath already realized I'm not willing to take any raises from a gil seller. So I get a raise 1 and all the time, Rosehot and Elveengirl (actually just Elveengirl) are just saying Raise 3..stop..raise 3.. Screw that! I'm not taking any help from them.

Then at the end of our party... the party is fighting so close to the opening a raptor links and kills 4/6 of us. I take another raise 1 hit. Our paladin and dragoon sell out and take the raise 3s...and then get this.. want to MPK them. (maybe not the dragoon...definitely our pld though). Ok, you just sold your souls to gil sellers and you want to kill them..sure.

Anyways, I was just wondering..how strong are people's convictions...

I'd take the R1. XP isn't that hard to come by (well, at least for RDM, heh) and I'd rather spend that extra 30 mins in an xp party with a clean conscience than feel like I was sullied by a gilseller.

I commented in party..

/I wonder how much gil they can get for two souls....

:D

I have accepted RII from gilsellers before. Without knowing it however. My whole party zoned because of their train (and I died on the zone). I thought my whm was casting, I wasn't paying attention, but I accepted and I saw "Rosehot casts raise II on Eilistrae" heh I didn't see who started casting it because of my filters.

Wheres the option to just homepoint?

Sorry Phraust... I was just factoring if you actually wanted to be raised. I'd figure Raise 1 would be just as bad as HP at high levels.

This is probably gonna turn into a flame.

I would take anything a gilseller wants to give me. Now, that's not to say I'm gonna pay them for it, I just see nothing wrong with taking a raise 3 from a gilseller.

Thre are some gilsellers out there that give them all a bad name. But, then again, there are gilsellers that do absolutly nothing bad to anyone (lvl 1 fishing bots in town for example).

As far as Rosehot goes, she used to mine in Gusgen 24/7, when I was in there mining one day, she mined on top of me, and I expressed my displeasure in a very civilized manner. No Response. So do I mine on top of her? No. Next time I see her mining, I walk right up next to her, /bow at the mining point and walk away. Then she mined on top of me again. Next time I saw her, I did the same thing, /bow to the mining point. She sent me a /tell that said "?". I replied "^^".

Next time she saw me mining and everytime since, she passed me by and let me have my mining point to myself. Sometimes that dosen't work, but there are ways that you can make the gilsellers respect your space and even help you out when you need em to.

I'm not sure if the player Luky is a gilseller or not, but she sure did act like it the first time I met her. We got to a mining point at the same time, and we both started mining it. After it disappeared, she started sending me /tells that said "FQ FQ FQ FQ FQ" and "DEATH DEATH DEATH" then she started following me around. Following someone is not against ToS, but the GM I called on her saw that she was trying to keep me from being able to mine, therefor harrasing me. Next thing I saw was Luky disappear. A couple of days later, I saw her again. This time I /waved at her, and she started with the "FQ FQ FQ FQ" again. I replied "please use the Auto-translate function" and "English Do you have it?". Then she mined on top of me again. I sent the /tell "No Thanks. please". Next time I saw her, I passed her by and /bowed to the mining point. She then sent me a /tell that said "you me Friends?". I replied "yes please".

and I haven't had a problem with luky or Rosehot since.

I guess my point is, people get agrivated at gilsellers and even other players to easily. People need to learn to turn the other cheek, be nice, on the other end of every character is a human being. Humans have feelings and emotions, wether they are gil sellers or not. When you appeal to the good side of a person, you might get nothing but rewards in return.

Does this mean I'm gonna party with them? Does it mean I'm gonna pay them RL money for gil? Does it mean I sell gil myself? No. It means I'm a nice guy and Karma is paying me back.

This is the last time I will ever speak of gilsellers on this message board.

It's possible to disapprove of gilselling without being uncivil to gilsellers. A raise is a raise no matter who gives it. A raise III doesn't corrupt the economy. There are nice gilsellers, and mean gilsellers. The gilseller that offers you a raise III is of the former. By all means, don't help gilsellers farm. Don't give them gil. Don't buy gil. Don't help gilsellers advance to higher levels and unlock restricted game areas. Those things help propogate gilselling. On the other hand, you should still respect a good deed when someone offers you one. Don't go out of your way to be a jerk, unprovoked. A gilseller coming to help you and giving a raise III isn't the sort of behavior we should be discouraging. I would take a raise III, and say thanks, as I would if any other player raised me.

I would take it. There is no reason to begrudge someone doing a good deed.

Accepting help from a gil seller is fine in my book, its the point where you start helping them which is the wrong thing

I voted yes. I mean its not helping them in any way is it? Only helps me. I think its stupid when people don't do things for themselves because of other ppl ;o

I know this post isn't a flame but....

Its kinda like a misplaced flame. I assuming its a flame saying the gilsellers are ruining our economy? I mean why else would you be mad at gilsellers?

I think there should be a choice for people who pay OUTLANDISH prices too, because we all know they are the ones ruining the economy.

Your very thick headed if you dont take the raise 3 of coarse id take it
i wouldnt want to slow the XP PT down because i wanna be a childish brat and say "Well i'm not getting raised by the dirty gilseller cause there ruining my game!" actually helping you is a good thing. Gilsellers are people too they just play our game diffrent.

Id accept a raise from a gilseller. I mean a R3 is a R3 no matter who its from. Unless I am required to pay for it, its just a normal player raising me. In fact getting help from any gilseller doesn't bother me. I think I would even farm with a gilseller if the profiet is going to be split, or even helping them with something if I dont have to go out of my way to do it(not that at me level I could help them), but thats because I have nothing against gilsellers or gilbuyers. I wouldent buy or sell gil myself granted, but it doesn't mean I have to be against those who do them. Unless of course I know they are jerks themselves...then I wouldent help them. But if someone is nice out there I dont have anything against them.

Heh now lets see if I get flamed because of my view...

............ notice your lv50 go ahead and help them.
On the higher lvls ppl will remember you and seclude you from PTs,LS's,HNM,Sky,Quests,Missions,ZM's (because ppl these days care alot about reputation =D) just saying that will prolly be your outcome if you continue your feelings about the gilsellers , they dont give a shit about you and you shouldn't either

In that specfic situation, I'd probably take the R3. I don't pay much attention to who is and who isn't a gilseller, but it probably wouldn't be a factor.

If Colbwa were offering it (if such a thing were possible), I'd probably decline because frankly he annoys the piss out of me and creeps me out. If Roofie were offering it (again, if such a thing were possible), I'd take it because he was always pretty decent to me despite annoying about 95% of Vana'diel.

I think every situation is different, so I guess my anti-gilseller convictions aren't that strong.

I had a little ethical crisis the other day. There was a bazaar on the Port Sandy dock full of moat carp for slightly less than 4k a stack. The number of carp on sale made me immediately think "Fishbot-enabled." I dislike botters, but after some internal wrangling I started cleaning out the bazaar anyway. I felt a little guilty, but mostly I was happy as hell to have another dozen stacks of carp to add to my Lu Shang total.

The bazaar guy hasn't been back, so I'm relieved that it was legit. Didn't stop me, though.

I never said I give a shit about them. But I dont have to give a shit abut them to help them. The only reason I wouldent help a gilseller or even try to communicate with them is because of how everyone hates them.

The only reason I say there is a possiblity of me helping one is because when I first meet people I try to keep an open mind about who they are. If their ass holes or I know they PK people, then no i am not going to be nice to them. But if they come to me asking nicely for help or something, chances are if I can I will help them. To me it doesn't matter if their a gilseller, gilbuyer, or normal player. If their nice to me, and I dont know them for any deeds I consider wrong, then I am going to help them(or accept help from them).

Note: I dont have a problem with gilselling, though I wouldent buy or sell gil myself. But I dont like some of the things certain gilsellers do, but to this date gilsellers have never done anything wrong to me so i dont have any reason to hate any of them.

White collar criminals (embezzlement (sp)) are nice to some people too.... doesn't mean they still aren't getting their money against the rules.

And I guess I am a little stubborn (I do have a big taru head after all). But if you're willing to accept help from someone you KNOW is a gil seller, how can you turn around and bitch about them screwing everyone over?

That's more or less my question. People bitch here and there that gil sellers are ruining their economy and I've done it too. That's why I'd think it'd be hypocritical to accept help from them.

Also, I'm not really pushing the question.. would you help them? That's been discussed in other threads.

To the whole selfishness that I wouldn't accept a raise because of the party? Well, I would do it if I was the first one being raised. If someone else was raised before me that could raise, I'd probably still ask for the Raise 1. HOWEVER, I don't go into parties looking to die and finding out whos going to raise me and at that level, there is usually 2-3 raisers in the party (refresher (brd/rdm) and a healer (whm/smn) and sometimes a blm) so raises aren't that hard to come by.

And who's more selfish? ME asking for a raise 1 from someone right beside me, or someone saying "No, I want a raise 2 or 3 and I'll make my party wait while that raiser comes across the zone".

Really, this wasn't meant to be a flame. I just wanted to know people's thoughts on this.

When you put it that way I guess it does make more sense not to help them or even associate with them.

But if you're willing to accept help from someone you KNOW is a gil seller, how can you turn around and bitch about them screwing everyone over?

I see your point there. But as you can tell I really am not botherd by it so I think someone like me could easily just say sure to a raise without a secound thought.

Also, I'm not really pushing the question.. would you help them? That's been discussed in other threads.

Yea my bad about that, shoulden't have brought that subject in through what I said...should have thought alittle more. Let's just ignore what I said earlier >.>

I suppose if you make your pt wait for a raise 2 or 3 thats more selfish kinda. Though I think they would understand. Even if they did though I wouldent wait for a raise 2 or 3 myself. When I said I would take a raise I ment if it was there and just as easily available(the guy is around the corner, down the hall, ect) that I would take it if I was offerd it.
