any way to save macros on pc version?
im thinking about reinstalling windows soon and i want to keep my macros and junk

Just burn your whole FFXI folder onto a disk and copy-paste it back into program files. When you launch the game it will do a filecheck and your set. This will keep anything youve altered (Screenshots, macros, any model changes you may have tinkered with) on client side intact and also cuts reintall time down by a lot.

what if my game is installed onto a different drive from windows

Well, first go to your PlayOnline folder (default path would be C:\Program Files\PlayOnline), then go SquareEnix->FINAL FANTASY XI->USER->whatever is the first folder in there (assuming your main character is the first character on your list when you are on the character selection screen). The files starting with mcr are your macro files. Also, the .MRK files are your map markers, if you've made any.

That should work with NP but I take more of a surgeon's approach.
I take so many screenies that the box fills up. Yes, there IS a limit.
So I make a zip file and move them then the folder is empty again.

Macros:
I'm at work and don't remember the path but there are ascii files in
the POL folders somewhere that have a MACRO SET (eg: set# 3)
Set #3 would really be #2 or #4, it's offset by the 10th one getting a
wierd number. I found this was necessary as I had a main with two subs.
I wanted them to be VERY similar so I copied one into the other then
logged on and altered the other one. That was a case where I had an
established macro set but needed another, slightly modified for a diff.
sub.

I'm really sorry If my typing got confusing on the macros. I'm almost
ready to log off and finally go home. If I had you on the phone I could
walk you through it.

You can also use Ctrl+Shift+Alt+B on character selection screen to save your settings on POL server, and Ctrl+Shift+Alt+R to restore it.

If this is the case, just wipe out and reinstall Windows on the primary drive. When you reinstall FF, choose the location on the secondary drive.

um I thought about using some foul words but they might confuse you.
I was at work posting and it was quitting time. I needed to log of the system's network AT WORK and go home.

I am at home now in case you felt like you should know.

Argh, after spending the evening rebuilding my smn macros (which I've been putting off for over a week  ), it would've been so nice to have done this before I changed computers.... Well, now I know> :)
