How to save your macros / game settings when you reinstall

Back up all the folders/files in (there will be 1 folder for each character)

C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER

When you reinstall there is no USER folder so just make one and put your folders back into that location.

For some strange reason if you email SE and ask them this ,they say it cant be done and you need to make macros all over again. One thing i forgot to do was backup my FFXI pictures o well

That's because they don't want to be on the hook to support it. If they tell you it can be done, then they have to support it (as though it's a feature of the game). With the average help-desk support person (and the unbelievably high turn-over call centers have -- the average person only sticking around for a few months before they move on), it's highly likely that YOU will know more than THEY will be about this sort of thing.

For those customers that don't know much about how to copy files around on the hard drive (and there are a LOT of them), it means their people will be trying to talk someone over the phone through the process of doing this -- and they don't want to have to support anything more complicated than just picking a button on a menu.

When they weigh the alternatives, they come to the conclusion that they should just tell you "it can't be done".

Sad in this day & age. Isn't it?
