I was introduced to the game through a friend. Just curios about yall's experience.

I was just hanging out minding my own business, and then this guy came up with his van and asked me if I'd help him go find his puppy...

i saw the game previewed a whle before it came out, and new i had to have it. Shortly after i got the game for christmas, but couldn't play it because my computer was garbage. After waiting for a new computer, i then had to make 130 dollars extra because that computer had an Intel card and i needed to get a Geforce lol. So i sat reading everything i could on FFXI two weeks before i even could play ^_^.

My friend convinced me to play this game, we played together until lvl32 ^^ after that she went drk though and I stayed blm and I got ahead and she quit recently. So er, yeah now she leads a normal life, while I play like my whole life -.-

Saw it for PC a week after it was released and got my brother (Durien) to buy it since I never played an MMORPG and he was into Everquest (hadn't played an RPG since FF3 was released for SNES)... watched him play and bought it a couple days later.

Once upon a time I went to a Gamestop and it was in stock and I was like cool, FFXI.

my (soon-to-be-ex) husband had been talking about it for almost a year before the thing came out and bought it the day it did (I wasn't looking forward to it though, eww MMO, HISSSSSS). He had to work that day though, so while he was at work he had me install the game and make a character so he could call me and tell him about it haha. He quit like after a week (Note to new players: Tarutaru THF will drive you mad to the point of quitting :P) and I've been playing ever since, go figure.

The usual.

Van, puppy, Anesly.

Actually, I preordered it, got it a few days after it came out, and have been hooked ever since. I wanted an alternative to EQ.

I started playing FF when 8 came out and have been playing them since.

I started after my friend, which has about the same exact taste as me, recommended it. So I jumped in with him and a couple IRL friends.

I was interested a little at first, because it was Final Fantasy. Then some friends at another online forum that I visit got the game on launch, and posted some screens, and I was sold. Then they all quit.

I was irritated Square would make an online version of one of my favorite series, considering how little I cared for online gaming (I tried Everquest and quit in disgust after a few days because all the other players seemed to be snotty 'tards. I read reviews of FFXI but had no plans to play it.

Then one of my co-workers (I went to college with him, too) told me about the game. He was singing its praises for nearly two months before I decided to give it a try. The difference was amazing. Everyone was nice and very helpful. I've been hooked ever since.

Then I got one of my other friends hooked. He'd watched me play, but I didn't think he had any interest in it. I had to go to the bathroom one evening and he started curing people while I was away. After that, he was hooked. I got another friend interested because I'm always doing entries about my Vana'diel adventures in my blog.

We're all filthy addiction enablers at my newspaper. lol

i was lookin in a magazine , and was bored so i want to EB games and bought it. Thats my story dun dun dunnnn

hrm this sounds familiar :D so anyway I decided when I saw this game coming out that I wasn't going to buy it since it wasn't a "real" numbered final fantasy (and I still believe it shouldn't be called FFXI) but my friend ended up getting it back in June or July to keep in touch with his brother and got me hooked....

Hmmm.

Well, I've been playing and mastering every FF game since FFI(English version) came out. I (Like so many other losers) got hooked. After playing and hateing 8 & 9, I started to give up on the series and started playing more on-line PC games like counterstrike and things of that sort. After that I was reminded of my childhood desire to be wisked off this forsaken ball of dirt, to a place where adventures and battles were ever-present. (Go figure, a Marine that likes battles and hates almost everything o.o )

But as soon as I heard "...New Final Fantasy game..." my ears and intrest perked. After seeing SC's in Game informer and GMR, I had to clean the drool off the mags to keep reading it. And conversation turned to a real close friend from HS that I later found out was a Beta-tester for FFXI. I soon drove the 4 hours to upstate NY to see the game in motion. Before I left his dorm to get back to base before I was written up UA, I made a phone call and pre-ordered a PS2 copy since traveling with my PC was idiotic. So after 200+ dollars and 75 more for my Cable to my hose for the net, I've been non-stop since.

I heard it had a chocobo named Warren in it and just couldn't resist...

A friend of mine did beta testing for it, and I thought it was really lame cause whenever we were sitting around it would be taking up the TV and it just looked really boring and stupid... all that running and watching your character kill rabbits. Ooh, fun. Then I started dating my boyfriend, and he played it... one day we were bored and he suggested I make a FFXI character just for fun, so I did, and as I was just starting to get the hang of it he said "Well, if you don't like to play, I'm just gonna use that character for a mule..." and I guess my protective instincts flared up cause I never stopped playing. Now his character is MY mule ;D
