If you havent seen the trailer, i suggest you find it and see it, i downloaded it off of fileplanet... from what i see it looks like its gonna be a good film but there have been alot of these "survivor" type movies :\ this one looks good i just wana know more about it ^^
 
This movie is based on an older short novella by Richard Matheson. I own the book "I Am Legend" and it's a pretty decent story. Hopefully they keep with the same type of bleak ending and storytelling that the story had, but from the trailer I can't see them following the book.

It's a pretty good read though, very fast and only clocks in at about 130 pages. So not too difficult unless you still have a 7th grade reading skill. I would suggest checking it out and knowing the full story before you watch the movie. Like I said, I can already see them taking very big liberties with the story.

i wikipediad it.. im gonna try to buy the book.. but form what i can tell its about a guy whos the only sole survivor on earth because of a disease that has spread through people making them like vampires... i cant wait :) im gonna read this book and go see the movie
 
Yes, they're vampires. The protagonist is the only one genetically immune to the vampire pathogen. During the day, he gathers supplies and kills every vampire he comes across. At night, he listens to classical music in an attempt to drown out the sound of dozens of vampires clustered around his heavily fortified home. I forget everything that happens, but I read that story and many of Richard Matheson's others in one volume.

Even more than Mr. Wonko said, the book explores the human mind as it deteriorates through loneliness. It's kind of sad because you're basically watching this man go insane. Of course, he does find work in trying to cure the disease and find out at least what it is and how it works. Some medical jargon in there but if you know your biology the pathogen is pretty simple. Just finding a way to cure it is the hard part.

The precise lineage goes like this: I Am Legend, the original short story, was made into Last Man on Earth, the first movie (starring Vincent Price.) Later on came The Omega Man, with Charlton Heston. Now we have I Am Legend with Will Smith, though it appears that it's borrowing elements from Omega Man.
