I Am Legend

I've read the novel, and I loved what they were doing with it right up until the third act, when the lady and the kid showed up and the movie turned into 28 Days Later. The movie largely went down in flames for me at that point and started making zero sense.

And I hated hated hated the CGI "zombies." They really didn't do anything that screams "We need Gollum in this shot," so I don't see why they couldn't have gone for a practical effect with actors in makeup. It pulled me out of the story every time I saw one of those pixelated predators pop up on the screen.

Will Smith is awesome in it, though.

This is going to be one of those movies I'll appreciate more if I don't watch the ending on future viewings... sorta like A.I., where I stop the DVD when the screen fades to black as he's staring at the Blue Fairy so I don't have to put up with the tacked-on alien garbage at the end.

"I was saving that bacon." was easily the best line of the movie.

I feel the same :/

I wish we could've heard that famous line:

"COME OUT NEVILLE!"

Movie was alright, Will Smith was fantastic. I've been a fan ever since Fresh Prince of Bel-Air cause I find him so god damn likable. He's really come along as an actor, the entire movie was pretty much dependant on his performance and he didn't let down at all.

Also, I'm surprised he was watching Shrek in the movie. You'd figure WB would want one of their own movies in there.

Movie wasn't bad, but let's be honest, it would have been infinitely better if they'd just stuck to the novel.

For some reason the credits sequence from Dodgeball started running through my head when I was watching the end of "I Am Legend"...

thanks for posting the old one.. i was kinda hoping the new one followed the book more but eh i cant complain it was a good movie untill the woman and child :\ i really wish the ending was the same as the books :\ to bad though
and i wish we woulda heard "come out neville" to i was praying for teh guy at the end when the SUV flips to actualy talk to him but eh didnt happen o well

There's one thing that's bugged me since I read the story.
Why didn't anyone think to just write a letter?
That could have saved everyone from a ton of misunderstandings.

I saw the movie and I loved it. Will Smith is fantastic. I'm really sick of the whole sacraficing yourself thing at the end of the movie though.

I enjoyed the movie, uh yeah pretty much sums it up. I hadn't seen any previews and didn't know really anything about the movie other than "Will Smith was the last human on earth" or so I had heard. I found the whole premise of the movie very Resident Evil-like, i mean.. a virus that turns people into zombies and causes a huge disaster for the world. Yeah, while the idea wasnt exactly unique, the movie was still pretty good in my opinion.

You do realize that the whole "a virus that turns people into zombies and causes a huge disaster for the world." vampire apocalypse genre originated in the book this movie is (incredibly loosely) based on right? Night of the living dead, resident evil etc all came AFTER Mathesons I am Legend.

Which btw, is much much better and more influential as a book then it has been in any of its four film adaptations.

Spoiler:
they turned neville into the vampire's shrek instead of their midnight killer (dracula)? wtf. oh and wth in removing ALL of the scientific exloration and psychological understanding of bacteriological/virus vampirism. Making neville into super-scientist instead of drunk, insane, lonely with a microscope he doesnt know how to use?!? GARBAGE. And the complete rewrite of "anna" and the addition her little white kid was retarded and ruined the movie. Read the book. /rantoff

Just finished the movie. It's not too bad. I don't know why the little kid was added in there.
Spoiler:

The plot might be different but how often do you NOT see Hollywood change a "bad/bleak" ending into a happy one? A happy ending has more replay value than a "twist" that's no longer surprising after the first view.(eg sixth sense) How would most people feel after watching a movie rooting for the guy only for him to commit suicide? I loved the irony in the book where he realized that he was now the monster but I honestly don't know why the hell those so called intelligent vampires didn't just leave the fucking area if they knew he was killing them at daytime. That would seem like the smart thing to do.

I would have preferred Anna to be a vampy girl but as usual Hollywood changed the appearance of the vampires in general to appeal to the masses. That wasn't entirely unexpected.
I was certainly expecting more signs of human intelligence from the vampires and I believe that could have have been explored better. You saw hints here and there but Neville obviously didn't make the connection and it was probably just background noise as far as he was concerned. With the devolution of the vampire into a creature unable to use human speech it would have been impossible for the original form of Anna to exist in the movie.
The exploration of virology/bacteriology wasn't in the movie for obvious reasons. If you think the average American that is going to watch this movie has the brains to understand what's being said when if they had the intelligence to understand it they could have grabbed the book for less money I think you are underestimating the depths of human stupidity. You cant make a movie too wordy and more about teaching the people how to understand wtf everyone is saying than the plot. Movies don't have the luxury of doing so like a book which is why the books tend to be better.
While all of us would like to see a movie strictly adhere to every little thing in a book doing so is a major no no in many cases. It is this way for a very simple reason. Why buy the movie ticket when you can read it in the comfort of your own home/office?

The ending wasn't the best but I can understand why the twist i was expecting didn't happen. Neville never realized they still had intelligence and as such it never occurred to him that by showing the cured girl they might back off. I don't understand how the vamps could smell a small vial of blood breaking within seconds but could never track fresh meat with their strong sense of smell. I would have expected a large vampire attack on the scale of the ending to have occurred easily before yet there were almost no defenses designed to stop them. Bombs don't count. Any idiot should have had a backup plan for when the next wave of those things attacked.

Ok, I know I am way behind in seeing this, but I just got back and I thought it was decent. The CG zombies were crap, but the story was pretty cool. I never read the book, so I have no idea what was done right or wrong, but I thought it was pretty cool.

I never thought will smith was bad, he just has some bad movies under his belt.

I'm excited for this movie, though.

Would they be pimping the JLA movie? They have nothing to do with it.

Now on to the real reason I am replying to this thread lol I saw the Batman and Superman logos on a billboard in the city, and I remember seeing this post by you Pasquale and got to thinking. If they are doing a JLA movie, maybe they will go with one of the more recent story arcs. Who knows, maybe they would even go with the Green Lantern as a black guy. Yes, I know it totally deviates from original Green Lantern, but the newer cartoon had him as a black guy. Maybe he will be played by Will Smith lol

I know this is probably ridiculous, but hey ... ya never know.
