I really don't like to rant. But I am really getting tired of this.
I do like to help, I really do. But I'm starting to get really tired of it, and I might even start asking for payment.
Now, a little background story;
when I was lvl 50 with my RDM, it was not easy to just go out and hire a high-level to do the job for me, no. I had to shout in Jeuno for hours on end in order to get an alliance for Genkai I. Asking high-level people was not possible, since most of them were JP. Through this process of shouting etc. I learnt many things. And that evolved me and my play style, and improved my skills. And now, people just simply ask someone to solo G1 for them.
Later, I had to get my artifact armour. Same process here, shout in Jeuno, ask people etc. What we did then was ask people OUR LEVEL (Imagine that. there's other people around your level 0.0) and ask them to help you, in return for your help. We could even do a AF3 run for several jobs at once in order to get enough people. This doesn't sound too hard, now does it? This, too, taught me things about the game. And I also got to see areas I had not seen before.
Now, this is what my rant is based on. Other peoples lack of patience. And their lack of knowledge about what they are doing. I constantly get help tells. All the time I get help tells. And this is why I suddenly lost all interrest in helping people for free. Almost everytime I help someone, they didn't even start the quest. Once they get help they expect me to tell them who to talk to, what to buy, where to go, and what to do. They expect me to hold their hand through the whole thing. If I would ever ask someone high-level (I don't think that's possible since I'm one myself) to solo something for me, I would do this first:
1. Where do I start the quest
2. Which NPC's do I have to talk to
3. Any items I need?
3 a. If so buy them
3 b. if not, skip to 4
4. buy silence oils if needed
5. buy prims powders if needed
6. Where do I have to go?
7. What do I have to do there?
Once I've been through these simple stages that won't waste anyone elses time beside yours, THEN you can start shouting for help. Whoever decides to help you will be glad that you come prepared.
4/5 people I help are NOT prepared. As a matter of fact, they're not prepared at all. Anyway, on to the next stage:
Once you're done with the whole thing, be sure to THANK the guy/girl that helped you. He will feel much better if he gets a thank you, weather or not it's in the translator doesn't matter. Even if you pay him, you should thank him, because it's his time that's wasted, not yours since you have to get the thing done anyway. I can't count the number of times someone have simply said "Bye", and then disbanded. Or not even said anything at all. It feels like a terrible waste of my time when this happends.
Also, if the person can't help you, please, just accept that. Don't start a big conversation with me how high-levels are egoistic bastards and never think or help anyone but themselves. Your chances to get my help will not improve. Your chances to appear on my /blist will though.
Once someone started screamign at me because I didn't want to get up at 6 AM a saturday morning in order to help him get a coffer key because that was the only time HE could do it on.
Another time someone started screaming at me because I knew who his brother was and I didn't want to give him (not his brother) 500k gil.
Looking up what you have to do is seriously a very good practice for you. It'll teach you not only how to find things on an amazing thing called the Internet, it will also teach you about your job and other things.
if I need help with some high-level shit (imagine that, we have something to do besides sit in our moghouse and chat) I can't simply solo it. I can't simply ask a level 90 red mage to solo it for me either.
So please, if you're not willing to come prepared, don't waste my time by making me type a response. I might know a lot about the game by reading on several fan sites, and from my time laying the game. But I am not a walking FFXI encyclopedia. And I'm not just some pixels placed inside a game to be your personal slave.
