My old linkshell now plays WoW and a few like myself are bored out of their fucking minds. I made a thread with screenshots and I posted this breaking table gem:

[Edit: Changed it from IMG to URL, as the screen was breaking the board at 1024. -Sculli]

Going from WoW to FFXI is difficult, if not impossible, no matter how bored you one is. Even though WoW is "short" when it comes to MMO lifespans, it is sort of everything one would want in an online game (the gfx are a turn off for some, but hey, can't please everyone).

The next two MMOs worth waiting for will likely be DDO and Vanguard.

Vanguard is something I am keeping my eye on. DDO is very interesting IMO.

supposed to say:

DDO isn't very interesting IMO.

Played the DDO beta... very unimpressed. That is all

If you're going to use screenshots of FFXI in an attempt to convert people, please turn on bump mapping, AF, and super sampling. Also use a resolution of at least 1024x768. If your computer can't handle that, then don't try to convert people if they're coming from a newer game. You will more than likely fail miserably.

The game still looks pretty good when you pimp it out, especially the models and animation.

Twilight Wars seems pretty snazzy to me. Haven't seen any updates on it since their initial concepts though.

P.S. nice anal shot of the choco... it looks like he's already got high-res textures on, no? My game looks almost exactly like that, and I bumped them up to 2048².

People who are in love with WoW are not likely to come back to FFXI.

They're either in love with:
- the graphics (and since FFXI doesn't have the Toontown color palette, it can't compare).
- the fact you don't have to talk to anyone all the way to the level cap
- the beatdown of other characters
- everything not FFXI about it.

I love FFXI though and think i would be utterly bored of WoW after a short while. I played it at my friends house for a couple of hours and it didn't captivate me that much.

- The graphics are substantially better on FFXI, though the colour on WoW is a lot neater because, like you said, it's got a tooney kind of palette to it.
- FFXI makes it so we HAVE to make friends in the game. It makes the whole experience worthwhile.
- You can do Ballista or Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba to PvP.
- FFXI's sad because you can't solo at all. Also, SquareEnix screws up a lot especially when it comes to the maintenance.

I don't think FFXI and WoW graphics are comparable. Both those game graphics are very good for what they are supposed to be.

The main problems many gamers, for whom FFXI is not their first MMO, have with FFXI are:
- very limited character model customization
- poor itemization (everyone wears the same gear)
- UI not customizable
- poor inventory management (limited space, no auto-stacking, etc)
- in-game delays (shops are closed, certain things can only be done at certain times, etc)
- no solo class choice

I think that it would be extremely difficult to talk someone who has played a different MMO into playing FFXI now. That person better be a Final Fantasy fan, short of that I just can't imagine that someone would return to FFXI.
