I have been forcing myself to stick with this game until the version updates but I don't think I am going to make it. I started using my free time to read reviews of other games and reading (real books) more than I already do.

My hopes were to high with the release of this game. FFXI was amazing and I couldn't wait to get online and immerse myself in that world. There was a sense of magic with FFXI and a strong community that is completely lacking in FFXIV. Im not angry or frustrated, just sad. I wanted a world to explore and a community to compete against and work with. Most of the things I enjoyed in FFXI were left out of FFXIV. There is no sense of accomplishment for me, where oh where are any beastmen????, and though the graphics are beautiful the world seems dull and lifeless compared to FFXI. I was going to play this game with my brother and he couldn't stomach the UI and the lack of excitement. When I read the NMs are leve based I think that was the breaking point subconsciously.
I think the majority can agree that SE really screwed up what could have been an amazing opportunity to take on "king" WoW.

The worst thing you can do is force yourself to play the game O_o (especially THIS one lol)!
I think if anything, SE managed to make everyone believe this was going to be THE mmo (at least that was the idea I got; I never played the beta or anything)...
The world itself could have been made into something awesome; but instead it's just copy-paste, copy-paste. It's like the game could have easily used another year in dev.
There's a bunch of stuff I miss from FFXI too (AH, mog house,etc.). I guess they don't have the intention of doing any of them T_T just my luck lol
I enjoy some aspects of the game, so I'm willing to give the coming updates a chance.
Maybe you can try what a lot of people are doing and just wait until March or whenever the PS3 release comes around. Hopefully by then there will be a little more content.

Games are supposed to be fun, if you're not enjoying yourself then move on ^^;

The exact reason I canceled my subscription for now.
Even though a lot of my RL friends are playing, I'm not enjoying it, hence I'm not willing to pay for the current state of the game.

I'll keep my eyes on the updates an around the PS3 release I may give the game another go.
For now, I have plenty of other things to do like the growing pile of unfinished single player games, unwatched dvds and Blu rays and *gasp* unread books.

Yeah I noticed myself getting easily distracted by RL things and no real interest to be on all the time. Then I met this absurdly sexy girl (Read: Too good for me) lol. So for now I just pop on every now and then. With all the better games out right now and movies and the RL crap in life, this game isnt doing much atm to keep my attention. I have played once in 2 weeks for about 2 hours. I will be keeping a keen eye on the December update.

FFXIV recently getting slammed by some sources as one of the worst game launches of all time certainly doesn't help its reputation either.

Anyway, off I go to get wrecked with some opposite sex. Don't force yourself Foo, otherwise you will hate the game and resent it in general.

Yeah, unfortunately a lot of the issues I had with the game in alpha/beta went unresolved, hence why I pretty much quit playing a few weeks back. I'll keep my eye on it for now, but I've been having a lot of fun with Abyssea of late, so I expect that XI will hold my interest for a while longer.

I haven't played much either, and I think I've narrowed it down to a couple of things. I feel like the majority of us that played FFXI for a significant time are now strapped with the "Burden of Knowledge" of sorts. You know what XI was like. Sure, it had problems, but none of them were as brutal as some of the mistakes made in the creation of this game. I'm sure lots of us (myself included), even though we might not want to admit it, expected XIV to be XI: Improved. Clearly, it isn't, and that might be okay for a person new to the MMORPG world, but for anyone with a little experience, it's extremely disheartening.

I expected nothing short of a polished, refurbished version of XI, and we all know how that story ends. Maybe that was foolish of me, but after all the hype, I feel like it's reasonable. I'm not off the wagon yet, but until this game undergoes some serious changes I see no reason to force myself to play something I'm not even remotely enjoying.

I'm so disheartened of what so many seem to think of the game... Just don't give up on it yet, there's really a lot going for it and SE really seems adamant on making the playerbase happy at this point to finish the sort of sloppy start it had.

For what its worth, I find it really fun and I enjoy playing.

Aside from whether or not you find it fun or not is for anyone to decide but for features people seem like they want it to be an HD version of FFXI which is a false expectation but thing could be better but the game has potential.

Again, it's not a matter of wanting an HD FFXI.

It's a matter of wanting some of the basic functionality that should be taken as a given in any MMO. SE made the mistake of rushing the game out before it was finished; people are upset as a result.

Let's all come back and talk about the game after the November update and then speculate on the December update. Take a week off until then.

The only thing that has kept me logging in for the past few weeks has been the LS. Oran, Orias, and the gang are awesome and if wasn't for the Wolves I would have been gone long ago. Wasn't even looking for HD FFXI just something that gave me the same awe I got and the satisfaction of things like finishing subjob quest or walking to Jueno for the first, airship passes, chocobo license, etc etc... There is no sense of accomplishment in the current game and the Mrd quest at 20 I was so excited for I think I beat with 3 swings of my axe, the ARM quest at 20 I made freaking copper shit. I just don't get it SE...

I was actually looking forward to getting back into FF and away from WoW some, but after reading everyone's posts and reading reviews, sounds like something I'll wait a year for them to work shit out before i even attempt to play it. Sounds like they left out a lot just to rush this out before Cata releases for WoW.

If you don't enjoy playing, there is no reason to stick around. For the friends you wish to keep in contact with, grab that information and then you will not feel obligated to log in as much.

And there is always wait and see. It has a little potential but personally, MMOs are not for me anymore.

Even though the fixes weren't supplied at launch, the fixes that SE has coming in the next update are huge steps in the right direction. They listened to much of what the player base has wanted(I know someone is going to gripe about the AH, even though they did fix the market ward).

I for one am very curious about the ships and player based guilds that they are implementing.

Short answer: No.

Long Answer: It depends what you want from your game time. Some people play so that they can be ahead of everyone else, even if they're enjoying themselves or not. Others play because they're confident that the game will improve. I don't mean to be a negative nancy here, but we don't know the exact details of the upcoming patch so it might be best to re-evaulate next year. I would personally, never pay for a beta though.

this was my last shot at an MMO, and its just not gonna happen. I was so bored before i even hit level 20, cancelled the account. Sucks cause i was looking forward to doing songs and videos again, just not gonna happen with this game.

I cancelled my account a little under 2 weeks ago for the same reasons. I just can't motivate myself at all to play this right now.

That's not to say I won't ever be back but there needs to be some drastic changes to the game before i'd ever consider reactivating my account. I'll monitor the forums and updates SE put out to keep track of it but until then I just can't warrant paying a monthly fee for something I have no desire to use.

Same. My boyfriend and I canceled our accounts over a month ago. Broken party mechanics, broken repair system, broken UI and just a lack of anything innovating to keep me interested caused me to quit. I'll still keep an eye out here and there. For now I am looking at GW2 but to be honest... I think I am starting to leave the MMO scene in general... They just... aren't fun anymore D:
