Damnit, college sucks so much right. I'm like 2 hours away from taking an accounting exam, have hardly studied shit, planning on passing with just logic and natural ability. The longer I'm in here the more I feel like I'm wasting my time with this. 3 fucking years studying Computer Engineering for what, enter a field thats currently over populated in my area with people with much higher qualifications then me and such. I've spent so much time here I don't want to become a college dropout, but the longer I stay the more I hate it. Dunno how my family would feel, don't really care. I just can't see myself doing this crap for a living anymore, it doesn't interest me at all. Fuck it, chalk it up to one of those life lessons or whatever.

And working at a video game store is as much fun as I thought it would be, chilling with cool people and having lots of fun, too bad can't live off the wages, it's like a dream job with shitty pay. And there's more hot female gamers than I expected, had only met 2 in my whole life before then. Goddamn I'm hungry...

This post was brought to you by the letter P and complete boredom + plus built up fustration. :(

Yeah college sucked for me too...

Just stick with it and all will be well.

I went to college for one thing and now am in a COMPLETELY different field.

example: Degree-Bachelors- Botany & Horticulture
Job- Classic Rock DJ

Shit just works out.

Try going out to more college parties that tends to take the mind off of things and sometimes a mental break is all you need to revive the college scene.

Hope this helps,

Mo..

If you like video games, why not become a designer?

I've seen a couple videos of how their work is, they mostly just create video games, hang out with people, order pizza, chill out, work again, then chill out and eat pizza again...

Or be like Mohoso, and become a DJ ^^;

DJ sounds like fun, i mean, you listen to music and chill out all day, that's awesome! Hey mohoso, I know it isn't nice to ask, but what do you make hourly? Being a DJ was one of the things these "Job's you will be good at Test" things have...

sadly, i wish to become "the scum of the earth' job....

I wanna be a Ballroom Dance Instructor again. maybe i'll make a Living this time.

I almost did that. :D My friend Kiyoko came up to me one day and said "Hey your cute and can dance. Want to be trained to be a dance instructor?" I almost did it but I stuck with my day job. I would have been working for Aurthur Murray's (sp?).

Welcome to my world. I have a collage degree and a crap load of certifications, as well as having a diversified background for my field. The technology industry is one of the worse to be in now. Not only is it over populated by morons, we have other economic problems with outsourcing and importing. In the field of networking we have people with masters’ degrees now taking jobs at 30,000 to 45,000/yr because they can no longer find any other jobs. Companies are now importing people from over seas to take their positions. As well all entry level jobs are being shipped out over seas, leaving the people who where filling the 30,000 to 45,000/yr jobs no where to go. Even Computer Repair services, which is typically used as busy work for a lot of engineers and administrators has gone down hill. Most computers even brand new are not cost effective to repair with how cheap they have gotten. The manufactures are no longer out sourcing the work to local small businesses anymore, but rather to national contract companies or doing the work them selves. The people filling theses jobs are typically import employees, or a person with on the job training on how to swap out a board. They are getting paid typically around 6.00 an hour in our area.

As well, it used to be to succeed in a Technology field you truly had to be dedicated to it, meaning you eat breath and love computers and technology. It was the only way you would keep up with all the changes. Education never stopped and in most cases your return on investment of money and time is never reached. Now the trend is higher the people just coming in to the field who where trained on the latest methods and technology, when technology changes, disposes of them and higher new people. People often wonder why Windows has so many bugs in it. It is because you have a brand new programmer working on code that was written by some one else 6+ years ago and had 4 other programmers working on that project that had nothing to do with the original code and do not fully understand what all the original code is doing.

And all of this is just the tip of the ice burg of the crap that is going on. I have dedicated 12 years of my life working and educating my self in this industry and now I am being forced to change field, from having a career to just having a job to pay the bills.

Talk about hitting the nail on the head. Ive been doing the same type of work now for too long. When the boom hit damn I was making money, but along with that went an increase in everything around me, (silicon valley) but it was great. I worked for some start up companies that were subsidiaries of yahoo and fuck we didnt even work, we shot nerf toys at each other watched movies drank alcohol.. and this was investment money talk about fucked up.

Now I do contract work.. why? cause its the only way I can pay all the bills and have money to do the things I love the most. Fortunately I was able to retain a strong customer base after the meltdown because i ran my own business on the side. Tough times these days for people in IT.

I think if id do it over again Id join the airforce and get advanced training, or have worked a hell of a lot harder and got myself into a more pretigous technology geared school.

Hang in there Pupusa, school sucks but just remember workin a full 40 if not more also leaves you time to ponder and you are around less people. Enjoy what time you have left ^^ Gonna do it for 3 you might as well finish it out.. its only one year. :D

I'm tellin ya, either Military or Ballroom Dance Instructor, that's where it's at. Maybe even Medic or Fireman. But something where you help others.

Lol it's funny that you keep mentioning things I've thought about. I currently have my application in at several different Fire Departments around the city. I'd get my EMT training included in that. Maybe I'll be the first Ballroom Dance Instructor Fire Fighter. That would actually be pretty nice since firefighters have a decent amount of time away from the fire house. Two sources of income is always a great thing. The feeling of helping others can keep you going better than a pay check alone can.

Have you applied for Cop yet ? I'm thinking about Corrections, Teacher or Computer Tech once I get out. And as a Side Income, Ballroom Instructor :D

No I couldn't be a cop. I just can't justify putting my life on the line in some situations.

Examples would be:

Abusive spouse and this is our 3rd time out there.
Drug deal gone bad.
Gang fight.
Etc.

Some situations people knowingly put themselves into and I wouldn't really try to help them. So no police officer for me. On a sidenote my roomate is applying to the police departments.

Man I dont want to sound like a gloomy guss or anything, but if only that was that easy. Im sure half the people playing this game want to be a designer. Those people that do have the jobs have massive skills and dont get paid that much unless you are a badass. Obviously this is my dream and want to be the person to design games, but I dont think you can just decide to become a designer.

Yeah I hear you though Pupusa. Sometimes I feel like just saying screw it too. I mean seriously, I could be having fun and MAKING money, not paying for it. Ah well, that piece of paper will hopefully unlock some doors that my skills will have nothing to do with ^^

being a game programmer is difficult as hell, just from playing a game like RPG Maker 2 my mind was boggled with a lot of the stuff that comes with the job, and that game is more or less prepackaged stuff, not writing the actual code for the game.

Pupusa, i dont know what your situation is but i might reccommend a break of some sort from school, and then return with a renewed passion for what you are learning. Usually taking a break helps (this also goes for those of you who are getting sick of the game lol)

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I just needed to vent for a bit. It's not even college itself that had me upset, it was the job outlook. In my area (right next to New York City) computer engineers and such are becoming common. Its no longer the guaranteed kick ass job I once envisioned. I knew I would have competition when I went to go look, but its ridiculous now. And as time goes by I see it getting worse.

I always wanted a job that I would enjoy, the paycheck never really mattered to me, as long as it got enough to pay the bills. I'm not a big spender, I usually go out with friends to the movies, play pool, or a few drinks, so money usually is no problem for me. I just want to be doing something I can wake up to in the morning and not hate. I love my current job, but its a job that I have to work around my busy college schedule, there's no way I can survive off of it. I love video games, but look at it realistically, what are the chances to land a job somewhere in that field.

I'm doing better now, the stress of exams has passed, its lighter workload now. Plus I got Tony Hawk Underground 2, Leisure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude, Shin Megami Tensei Nocture, and Phantom Brave to keep my mind distracted, LOL.

LOL, I played that at my job, got some funny stuff. I played the first dungeon and was "cursed" by some monster who taught me a new ability, it was funny. But still, Donkey Konga reigns supreme on the Gamecube. 8)
