Okay, here's the deal. A couple of weeks ago I finally completed the ZM mission necessary to enter Sky, and the moment I zone in everythiing went kaput. Everytime I tried to enter this place my PC would slow down than eventually lock up, but it would only happen in this particular zone. I asked around and most people told me that it was a corrupt .DAT and that the solution to this would be to reinstall FFXI.
Well needless to say I wasn't looking forward to this at all, but I finally decided to suck it up and do that today; BIG BIG BIG MISTAKE! I unintalled everything and started from scratch and thats when all the trouble began. When I try to begin the installation process with the playonline and tetramaster disc, about halfway through I get a 1305 error and that it is having trouble reading a particular file and to make sure that it exists. I've looked around other message boards and there seems to be a consensus that it maybe due to a scratched CD. I've inspected the CD and I have noticed one very small scratch on it, I can't believe that such a small scratch would ruin a cd, I've installed other games in which the CDs have had much more damage. But either way, most people have said to use someone else's CD to try to install. However this is not an option for me since I know no one anynear me that plays this game. So I guess i'm pretty much screwed.

So unless I find a solution to this that doesn't involve me re buying the game, I won't be coming back to the game.

Call SE support. There was some problems with the earlier disks, and they gave me an ftp to dl them from

Have someone send you that particular file. I had the exact same problem and worked around it. While its installing input the file into the directory.

Try copying the CD using any CD burning program you feel like.

Sometimes when a CD has issues like scratches, the CD copying software will use far more effective error correction than your CD-ROM will internally during the install process.

It worked for my StarCraft :) My original would slowly drag windows into an early grave when it tried to load the autorun, I copied it and the burn works 100% perfect.

You can just download the game from SE's website might take a little while longer. but you don't have to worry about a scratched disk

it wouldnt financially cripple you to buy the game again.

I bought it when it first came out for 50 bucks..

now they sell all the expansions and everything in 1 for like 15, 20 bucks

btw, i had the same problem as you when entering sky.. I can feel your dismay.. i scoured the internet for the solution.. then eventually came across it myself. Turns out, it was my virus software. It was blocking one of my ports or something that the ru'aun gardens server used. I disabled my virus software and it worked like a charm.

Youre getting a problem where like u get 1 frame per 5 seconds yea? that was my prob.. problem is, that port is getting blocked somehow.

Well I finally managed to get my CDs working by using some scratch repair stuff on my 1st CD. So after much hassle I was able to reinstall my game and update it (which took forever). But guess what?? I STILL HAVE THE SAME FREAKING PROBLEM! Ever time I zone into Sky my PC slows to a crawl and locks up. Now someone posted that it could be a block port that Ru'ann gardens uses; does anybody know what port this is? or how to resolve my problem? Some help would be appreciated.

He told ya how to resolve the problem, turn off your virus software when running FFXI ;)

As far as the exact port it uses, I doubt anyone does except SE. You could try contacting POL support I suppose, they might tell you how to exactly configure your virus scanner to unblock the port..

But turning it off while you play FFXI is a much simpler solution.

Unless of course he was wrong, in which case you should keep searching for an answer, because I don't have one ^^

I HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM.But like always i checked what i recently installed and tada it was EZ antivirus's real life protection that was causing the problem.SO i think its either your router / firewall or something (Maybe ISP) thats preventing full recieve in sky.Like my charecter used to jam the second i'd enter

I couldn't see any plausible reason for SE to make Ru'aun use a different port, for anything. I'd point my finger at a running process as well, i.e. antivirus / system cleaner / "optimizer" / spamblocker / coffee grinder.
