When people do this, it's now my personal mission to make sure they don't level. It is my new pet peeve, I can't stand it.

1. If you really really have to go to (bed/sleep/school/work/dinner with family/jerk off in a corner somewhere) so badly that you can't stay, why the hell are you staying til you level?
What is the emphasis anyway on getting that actual level? Why do people feel more satisfied with a crappy party where they got their level than a kickass party where they got most of the exp for it? It's stupid. I don't ask parties to stay longer for me to level up, and there's no real point to it. level 45 with 100 exp to 46 isn't one level higher than level 46 with 0 exp into level... it's 100 exp more. You're not mysteriously closer to level 75. Sure maybe you can upgrade your gear, but...
2) You should already have your gear upgrades on you anyway if you are planning to level during an exp party. If so, what does making the level matter? You already spent the money anyway.

It's just so fricking selfish, I can't stand it. Some stupid rank 8 WHM in a friggin santa hat and no food at all just informed me he was gonna leave in 1k when he leveled. Bam, I was outa there. Left his ass high and dry. I rule.

It's like finishing at a nice round number, parkin in an actual parking space instead of an old company ground, hope that answers most of number 1.

The only time I really do this is when the party has been going on for hours and hours so that I've gotten close (I'm talking like less than 2k away and the party is on its 4th hour). I also see how close everyone else is, how fast the exp is coming in, and how willing everyone else is... and I never push it. I've been known to stay and help others too... I suppose as long as it isnt inconvenicing anyone its fine really.

I think its the situation that depends on why you want to level up... I know that if I party for hours on end I'd like to get that level up to feel like I've accomplished something, especially if I'm at one of those levels where its just the right time to switch areas.

I have been with people that only stay as long as they get their level, and that does suck... but I only do this if the party is going to break soon anways, not the other way around.

hey man stuff happens, when i play on WHM i try not to be the last that levels..but still rl things come up

Usually its just nice to see the gold letters flash up and the triumphant music sound. If you are in a badass party its like the cherry on top the sundae, in a shitty party its a sigh of relief. You should come to a party to be in a party, where everyone benefits, near the end though if someone is close to a level people should stay for them. The only excepetions I can say really are barely exceptions: when I hit forty I want to get my AF dagger which I can not get before lvl 40, I have the stew but want the dagger.

I have to agree though people that ae outright: "Once I level I'm gone", in general you may want gone anyway, are just assholes.

If you have to go why do you have enough time to level?

I mean I've been in parties where everyone's leveled but one person and I had given my warning like an hour ago but end up staying to get that person his level also...Frankly if what you have to do is so important you shouldn't even have enough time for that one level.

Sabs, we are talking about the people that say they have to go once they level, usually they are pretty close to a level anyway (I'm always 500exp points or lower close if I'm gonna say it).

If you have to go though, you have to go. I mean you SHOULD of given a warning but most people who go "I have to leave once I level" have like 700 xp tnl and end up poochin the party by not finding a replacement or giving the leader enough time to find a replacement.

If you have to go that fast you shouldn't wait for your level.

Technically, staying until you level is giving warning, especially if you say so, and I never leave after I level if anyone else is anywhere close other than emergencies.

I don't really like the idea of replacements. When I join a party, I'm under the understanding that I should at least be there for 3 hours. If I don't have that much time, I don't seek, end of story. When one member leaves 1.5 hours in, and then a new person arrives, I feel an obligation yet again to stay for 3 hours from the arrival of the new person. Afterall, he spend the chocobo money and time getting here to this camp, and passed up other possible party invites, don't I owe him the same as anyone else?
And there's this cycle. That's why when a person has to go, the party should just disband. Then everyone with 2+ hours can yet again reform a party.

I don't really mind that people enjoy to level, but I don't like it that people put their gratifying ding above the well being of the party as a whole. How many times have you seen a mage about to level get impatient and run out and pull? How many times have you see a puller about to level grab one with barely any MP on the mages?

On a side note, how often do these people have crap gear and no food? I mean sheesh maybe if you'd been using food the entire time you'd have gotten that last 600 xp. But how come your level is more important than 5 other people's time?

Well I wil say that there have been times when I leveled and left, but I always do a couple of things before I leave in any party.
First I tell everyone that I have to leave, then I will ask if anyone has a job preference to replace me. After this step of the process I continue to fight until my replacement shows up.
I forgot to put this in earlier but I normally tell everyone at the start of the party that if you want to leave fine, find your replacement, and make sure they fit the role.
As long as they do that every party can do well, unless you get a shitty space filler.

I'm not a big fan of the "I'll leave when I level" mentality, either. I can understand all the nice psychologically-pleasing reasons why people do it, but I don't do it for one simple reason: I like "insurance" xp.

I may go weeks without leveling, so I like having a healthy buffer for those times I end up taking a dirt nap. I'm about 400xp from Lv. 41. I didn't push the party to stay because I just figure there's a good chance I'll end up deleveling at some point if I do that. That sucks even worse.

And I agree with Firestreak about swapping party members in and out. I don't party if I can't stay three or four hours, either. I always give an hour's warning before I have to go because I want the leader to decide if I should be replaced. I don't want to be responsible for dragging some poor schmuck out to where we are and then having him or her hear the magic words "I g2g eat thnx fr party" from everyone.

Maybe I should start looking for a static party.

Well he hates me but....I agree with Firestreak. (whoa that sounded wierd)
To me its much more grattifying(sp?) to get the buffer and have time to skill up your weapons/magic. I like to get at least 3k into a level if im going to level while in a pty. I have never once left after I dinged its just plain rude.

I'm not a fan of this, however.

The one point that nobody's mentioned is how much it sucks trying to get a party with 100 tnl.

But then doesn't that mean you left the party high and dry as well? Which contradicts the latter statement. Or am I missing something? :?

I aint a big fan of this, but theres no way I can say i'm all that innocent of it either. I'm guilty of this, and prob will be again in the future. I don't do it often, but things do come up unfortunatly.

I leave a lot of the time when I level. It's mainly to do with the fact I only get enough time for a few hours of pt on wokrdays. If I get a level, well, that's a good stopping point.

I do give the party advance notice I intend to leave at such time, and since I tend to leave when I level, I tend to have a long way in advance to warn them.

I'm also eager to get myself a replacement and hang around for other people near their next level.

There isn't anything rude about calling it quits from a pt, it's the other stuff people do that you have a right to be upset about.

This is still why to this day WHM pre - 41 are all scum, the whole lot of ya.

and I like Firestreak more and more everyday, but yea like a thread I made a while back if you don't have AT least 2 hours to xp then you need to keep your flag down, and I think I ALSO made a thread about being a replacement is stupid or even looking for them in most situations. Stop jockin my threads Streak :P

I will hardly ever be a replacement unless they party has 2 Rangers or so...I dunno, the set up has to be kick ass for me to even risk it.
