So if another candidate would have adopted a dog you would have voted for him... seems like a really bad reason to vote for some one, yeah good for him he saved a dog what about the hundreds of thousands of other animals? Just because he saved a dog doesn't save a species about to go extinct... Voting on a man for adopting a dog is silly..... really silly..

No one voted for Obama just because he adopted a dog, it's just a measure of his character that they agree with. It would have made them like Obama more, it was not the deciding factor.

Never claimed it was the deciding factor i think its silly some one thinks a dog is worth liking some one more, if he had adopted a baby dying from hunger in Africa i think it woulda been a little better than adopting a damn dog...

One countries favored pet is another countries favored cuisine....
 
It's not a given that just because two animals are both species of animals that it's all relative - or to say that just because a dog might be considered a meal but a certain countries culture, then due to moral relativity, we can then consider it's no different than any other. Dogs are as a species an ally that have over an unbelievably long time evolved alongside us as companions to humans. They are extremely loyal, intelligent and friendly and caring to us. It's not a same argument as, "some people eat snakes," because as an act that's not as perverse.

As for Obama, I didn't vote for him myself, that doesn't mean I have to dislike him as a person... just like, I could in theory vote for someone who represents my views even though I abhor them as a person. In the scheme of things, Obama being a nice guy or not is less important than him being a competent leader, but that's not to say we can't still acknowledge the fact he's done something nice, for a cause that's less in the public consciousness than what you might find more fitting.
 
Yea, if we could vote, there's no way in hell Bush would have been elected.

I don't know, it would take some getting used to. Plus I got enough problems with people speaking Spanish, I don't need people speaking French to me too.

Obviously, the most practical solution is building a gigantic electrified fence.

How is it silly to like someone more because they share the same interest as you? It's not silly to vote for someone who shares the same views as you; and him being a dog lover is a view point that a lot of people share.

Adopting a baby from Africa would have earned him similar points from people who share that viewpoint. The only difference is, those kids aren't being killed by the shelters they're living in if no one adopts them fast enough.

lol Spanish and French are almost identical in a lot of ways :p

And although you are being facetious, a lot of Americans would agree with a fence, which makes absolutely no sense. It would make more sense to build one between America and Mexico. However, if you want to build a fence around Quebec... we won't stop you.

I love listening to people who have no idea how it actually is in Canada. I'd say at least 75% of Canadians don't speak a lick of French. Canada is not a bilingual country - we're a country who has one province that speaks French and even most of them aren't bilingual as they ONLY speak french....

Being bilingual wouldn't help Canada much. People with a French accent speaking English just sounds like someone talking with a styrofoam ball in their mouth. So being bilingual would only help the French part.
 
I only know French because French 11 is mandatory to get into University. ;p

If Canada were to actually choose their 2nd language, it would probably be Chinese. Atleast on the West Coast lol.

No but those kids are being killed by neglect, im sorry if some one thinks a dog is more important than a human being they need to be shot now, and im not saying your saying that, but seriously a dog is a dog. Yes it is cruel that dogs get treated that way but its life.

If it came down to it and you had no food and there was a dog in the room, would you eat it, or starve....

(and yes im a dog lover, i dont hate dogs)
