3 years ago, when I first moved away from college, the movers broke my nice 5.1 surround sound system. It was my first apartment, and I didn't want to annoy the neighbors, so I replaced the speakers with the really nice Quiet Comfort Bose headphones.

I've owned a home for a while now, and I want to get a good surround speaker system again, something that makes my games sound as good as possible. I could research until my fingers are blue, but CNET reviews don't hold a candle to personal recommendations in my book.

What do you all suggest? I'm trying to limit myself to $300-500, but if it's worth it, I'd go higher.

Are you back from Kazakhstan yet?

I've been out of the scene for a while as well and will be following this thread closely as I am also in the market for new speakers.

Ive heard ALOT of good things about klipsch or h/e you spell it, but they are more for home theater and not PC

No, I'm not back yet, and I'm NOT in Kazakhstan.

Buy them. Love them. Cost ~$550 cdn.

They do come with enclosure covers so you're not looking directly at the baskets.

The sound is just... creamy. If you want high highs or low lows, this isn't the set for you. Klipsch defines their ProMedia line with balance: the lows will blend in with the music and won't be thudding out of tune, the highs will be subtle and won't screech at louder volumes. The sub and the tweets can still perform if needed to but this system is put to best use if your equalizer is flatter than a 7-year-old girl.

The satellites are small so easier to mount on small shelving units. The sub is ported with dual 8s, and as usual you want this close to the corner of the room it will be in (I'd probably suggest ~6 inches from the wall).

The only complaint I have about this set is that it doesn't support optical input. Strictly 3.5mm headphone jacks. The satellites do however come with a good 30ft of wire per driver.

Must... hump... Klipsch...

I'm just gonna go for the Logitech Z-2300 speakers. I had the Z-4's and they were good enough, my friends were all like "Damn", so the Z-2300's should be like 4 times better.

Ever think of getting out of you desk job and going into marketing? :P

I'm a fanboy. We have to be good at selling our brands of choice, otherwise we're of no use to anybody.

Except this is one brand we generally don't need help selling. They've been pimpin quality for some 60-odd years. Hell for a measly $50,000 you can buy one pair of their flagship towers...
