is it possible to lower the timer on the search feature after your first search is processed? i don't think 60sec is really need it, isn't like people gonna spam search for member/topic/post/etc or anything like that, i say 30sec is much better, 60sec is a bit too long.

I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable, logistical reason to have a timer on search... what was it again?

I havn't admin'd this type of forum for a long while but I'd put it down to bandwidth, However, should be able to bash it down from 60 sec no worries, will have a chat with Reeve and the other Fly and see what they suggest.

If lowering the search flood interval does not cause us to go beyond hosting limitations, I don't think Reeve would have a problem with this.

I think (I could be wrong), this got bumped to 60 seconds from 45 when Reeve was in charge during the QCDN timeouts.

Yes change this so I can be a moron and do tons of searches, act like this is google, and shut down QCDN.

Minus the sarcasm, this is exactly why flood intervals exist. I don't think QCDN would suffer enough to shutdown simply from allowing a few more searches per hour. Ultimately, that is all it comes down to.

If you want to be a moron however, thats your prerogative.

Processor cycles are exactly why. Keep in mind we're not the only database on this server, and I suspect we're allotted a certain amount of steady CPU utilization with allowable bursts.

Reeve can answer the feasibility of this. I can't view any output of our search statistics to see what our avg CPU% is at.

lol I still don't get the point of searching so much. Does no one browse the boards the normal way? Ya know, see a new post, click it, read it? lol

A lot of it has to do with getting bitched at by certain individuals if you repost something that was posted less than 3 years ago. That is just about all I ever use the search function for.

Its fun sometimes to look back and see some old stuff you posted way back when, and laugh at yourself for how big of a noob you were back then. I only use it once in a blue moon, but if you search something and get no results, and then wanna search again, say with a different spelling, it is kind of annoying to have to wait 60 seconds. Its not the end of the world by any means, but 30 seconds seems a little more reasonable.

I think a better suggestion would be to teach people to fuckin spell :D

90% sure that it wasnt

I recall frequently waiting 60secs between searches...

it's not a big deal would be nice since it's only 1 min
