I thought antdog was bad.... (Enurta)

Went to the mall this morning and this dude said my NQ white socks were gimp.

lolol I'd put this in my sig but Eleibfrid swearing at someone is better still :P

Stop being such a pussy and just tell him how much his gear sucks.

What's wrong with coming off as a prick? There is no possible way of telling someone their gear is bad without sounding like a prick. You know why? Everyone, in their own eyes, are the best. Even hinting that something they do is wrong makes people get in to a defensive mode. Reason they don't react the same way with someone they know, is because they have pre-programmed in to the brain that that person is nice, and thus don't react the same way. Giving him pointers in obtaining better gear would still put him in a defensive mode, but he doesn't necessarily make him bite back.

Don't just post it and ask someone else to do it. Do it yourself. Don't just simply make a post and ask someone else to do it. Even if someone else do it, it won't have the same effect as with several people do it, friend or not. The reason so we have so many high-level noobs with sucky gear is because everyone's too much of a pussy to say something. "Oh, I don't want to offend him! He might not like me and don't want to party with em after that!". Seriously, do you want to party with him again? Are you selfish enough to put others in that situation just because you don't dare sound like a prick?

And guess what, friends won't say anything to him. Proof is in the Antdog thread you speak about.

I'll send him a tell later when I see him on. Take it or leave it, but I'd recommend you do the same, even if its just to make you a man instead of a mouse.

Bolded: If you can say something then say it, don't leave it up to others to take care of. I myself am usually very patient with people up to a certain point, but I've never really had too many people with exceptionally bad gear as of late. This type of response of passing it onto the next person is the very reason it got this far.

As for the unbolded, I think you are getting off on the wrong foot. Coming off as prick can work to a limited extent, but not always. I've always found that you can catch more bees with honey so to speak. This usually works best when they are at low levels, but be friendly, maybe get a few stacks of cheap attack food or cookies, offer then to the appropriate players and voila, you got an audience. Another good choice is lead by example. Go the epeen route and give everyone your awesome numbers on your WS or the damage on your nukes. Give the tank a hard time when you pull hate. Make them jealous enough to want to be able to do that. Once they seem receptive, give small tidbits. Tell them something simple like "load up on accuracy and attack, then pour on STR for WS." While it's not entirely that simple, it's a start. Another option is to demonstrate the gear. Make a point to mention a piece of gear you may have just purchased or equipped and say how you like how it performs, don't forget to mention how cheap or easy it was to get. Or perhaps refer to another player with the same job whom you may have partied with recently and drop hints about the person and their gear.

If for whatever reason they don't get a clue, then act like a prick. But above all, don't act like you are just blowing off steam which most people do, actually put some thought into it. Show them the difference in numbers, tell them about all the hate you pulled or that they didn't, talk about the deaths that occurred to their lack of skill, or whatever, just use evidence. If you just start off with you suck, you already lost what little attention you had and you're not going to get it back regardless of how right you are.

Hyphyx a 70+ SAM now is just ridiculous.

I was surprised in my party with that idiot Alecto over a month ago never criticized this guy for wearing Royal Knight Chainmail at level 51.

I should flame RaiderX for editing my left shoe out of his avatar

I generally hold back my true feelings on most subjects because it seems to hurt people for some reason. Rather be a nice, quiet guy than that asshole who tells people that it is -not- okay to wear a NQ Amemet Mantle at level 75.

Someone has to be that guy. And the way prices are going now, everyone with HQ amemet should be working towards a Foragers. At 200k, HQ amemet is easy enough for anyone who is leveling another job through those levels.

>_> I'm going to agree with Meeze.

Someone has to let them know. Not only does it help them in the long run, it helps the people they party and do events with as well. Someone has to let them know, in what ever manner they deem fit.

I'm all for the nice approach ('Hey I was wondering..') but sometimes they dont listen and ('Look asshole..') works just as well. Even if they don't responde well to either method, it still gets them thinking about their gear. Hell, look at Antdog, even his stupid ass upgraded (though rather poorly, he at least tried). Prices aren't what they used to be when I first started playing, things are easily affordable to anyone that farms or even sells their crystals from leveling on a daily basis, ffs.

Trust me, I agree with you wholeheartedly, it's just I've done it so much that I get tired of arguing with hordes of idiots (because you'll never, ever win, especially considering you're usually outnumbered). I just bite my tongue and move on.

At some point, I agree being a full blown asshole is sometimes the only way you can get through to these people. Some people cannot pick up on sublety. I'm not saying that you should castrate someone with words right away, but if they see them constantly wearing shit... they should be informed that what they are wearing is shit. Hell, if I can farm silk for pretty much 3 months straight for my weskit (ages ago when it was 880k) not leveling while doing so because I didn't want to be a gimp in a party, these people can take some time out and get the gear they should have.

While I do agree that prices are way down from past times. On the other end of the spectrum its also exceptionally hard to actually make gil as well. Usually making money for food and tools and such works out, but when we start talking about 400k + items thats not so easy to comeby. Pretty much the only real way to make that kind of gil is 1. BCNM/KSNM/ISNM (and getting lucky). Or farm a lot of little shit and pray some fucking prick doenst undercut(which lately is another whole story in itself) you to hell, which of course is what usually happens.

Prices are all relative. They final piece you desire has gone down in price along with the items you farm to make that gil.

When I was level 60 I farmed beastman's blood, silk and a few other things for the gear I needed. 1.2mil ws needed for my items, now about 600k for all the same items. I'll use the Penitent's Rope as my example. When I bought mine they were 600k and blood was selling for 60-70k/stack. Now that same piece is selling for 200-300k and blood is 25-35k/stack. The work is all the same just the prices have changed.

Basically what I'm saying is there is no difference in the amount of work you need to do to get an item. The only difference is in how big the numbers are.

Peace,
Shmed

Exactly.

Not to mention worthless items aren't quite so worthless anymore. Saving things to NPC rather then immediately discarding is actually useful now.
