Ask Halifirien, he's big into the choco stuff and I believe he knows the answer to this, though I don't think he knows the reward you get for the returning the chick to its owner.
 
I got the same cutscene today. Based on what it said, I believe you have to search the three "short walk" areas, perhaps for a ??? or a set of tracks maybe.
 
I got this on my first short walk. Since then, on other short walks zopago has been giving me clues on the identity of the owner. The first clue was that the name started with "G". The second clue was that the owner is a galka. So far I've had no luck, but take your bird on more short walks and I'm sure you'll get some hints too.
 
Its a new mini quest from the last update you take it back to the stable. The choco dude will tell you look around where you walked your choco at. Go do that get some clues talk to the Choco people again and they well start giving you clues on how the owner it. Find th owner in town and talk to them. I found the owner of the one I found before getting my first clue lol I went to a npc it sell some junk I had gotten well farming bettle shells in CN turned out to be the NPC I needed it talk to lol. I do not remember if I got anything from it I was more then half asleep when I did this.
 
reward (for me at least) is the story of a diligent chocobo.
 
i got no reward and only one clue, look around either Bastok Mines or Sandy or Windy respectively to where you are raising youre choco. It happened to me and I scoured the net and found nothing, but then I was like hmm and i went to alla and looked for all "D" NPC's in Bastok Mines, and eventally found him, just talk to everyone.
