Well I am amidst a horrible fight with my account, and I am looking for any information that may help, so I do not have to do a reinstall.

Here is a bit of the story. I have 2 Ps2's in my home and both I and my Wife play on them through the same router. We will call them PSA and PSB for ease of diagnosis. Ever since the Toau expansion came out I have noticed a small problem rearing is ugly head only on PSB. For the record PSA is working fine and has no problems. PSB however started to lock up in high traffic areas. By lock up I mean that either the screen will suddenly trun black or actually just freeze in place. At this point the game does not even recognize me at all, I will not even get spit back out to POL or anything. No error message at all, and the only solution is to manually reboot the PS2.

This problem started as Toau came out, and was very sparatic at first. I chalked it up to lag caused by besieged or some other sparatic problem as it normally would only happen in al zahbi or in the expansion areas near the Ah's.

Fast forward to now, The other day I tried to log into my mule located in Port sandy and I took a few steps out of the Mog only to have my poor taru stop mid stride. I rebooted and decided to try loging into my main character located in the meadows. As I logged in I had my fingers crossed. Much to my dismay, my main character logged in and no more than 10 seconds later it freezes. So I do all the normal crap, reset my modem, router, and try again. To this day I have not been able to log into either of my characters on PSB for more than a few seconds.

Now here is where it gets really weird. I started to get curious about if it was my hardware or my software, so I took a coulpe of steps. I logged into PSA with my characters and managed to play without interuptions. Okay so now the finger points to PSB. This in mind I logged my wifes character into PSB hoping it would crash. Not so much. She actually logged in and had no problem at all.

WTH is that? Now I am at the point where I know my FF files are ok, as my wife can play no problem. I know the hardware is ok for the same reason. But still I can not play my characters on PSB at all.

When I called the POL help desk he said that it probably had to do with my port forwarding. So I got on the phone with linksys and configured my router. Still freezing. Then Cmdfly suggested that I try running directly out of the modem. I try this and still freezing.

I am at the point where the only thing I can think of is reinstalling, but even that doesn't make sense to me, as My wife can play with no problem at all on PSB.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Either:

A. Play on PSA and stick your wife with PSB, seems PSB doesn't like you, it happens.

B. Jump up and down on PSB for being a sexist piece of shit, then play on PSA and buy your wife a new Xbox 360 or Comp.

C. Blame it on Gremlins.

I'm still banking on a reinstall. We've narrowed it down somewhat, there's only a handful of things left to try before we officially throw this up in the air and call in Scully & Mulder.

a reinstall would be in best interest.
if the problem still occurs, Make sure your HDD is completley in.
If this still fails, your HDD may have a spin down problem (its dying)
my best friends did this and it used to take him around 3 min to just zone.

It sounds like some files that are only trying to load on YOUR character are corrupt, possibly .dat files related to some of your equipment or something like that - which would take a few seconds to load. Try this - have your wife log onto PSB and run your character on PSA, and have her on PSB run around you.

Hey man this happens to mine also....at first i thought it was temporary....but sometimes its fine sometimes its like....wth? but i ended up trying to reinstall...No deal >< so i ended up buying a playonline for comp. Well good luck with ur ps2 hopefully its not like mine and if u can fix it, post how!

Ok well looks Like I will have to try that install again. I appreciate the help guys. I will let you know what happens, I was just hoping someone had had this problem before, and I could get around it. But alas, seems as though this is the last effort.

Btw, I have never done a reinstall on the ps2, do I just run the HD utility disk "format drive" function then reinstall? I seems to have eaten my manual in a blind rage.

Everything that can go wrong will... its PS2!

Well the saga continues, after calling in vain to the LOL(oops I mean POL) helpdesk, and getting 0 actually helpful information. They finally told me that my best bet was to just switch my Fiancee to the PS2 that was having trouble and have myself play on the one that seemed to work all the time. I tried it and what do you know, it failed. Next thing I know the damn thing is freaking out on her too.

By this time I have had it and even though the techs at LOL told me that an clean install would probably not help at all, I took the advice of my LS members and decided what was the worst that could happen. I mean, we could not play on it AT ALL anymore so what was the diffrence if it got screwed up more right? So I dug through my mountains of crap to find my HD utility disk.

Upon finding it I promptly place it in my disc tray only to see words that struck fear into the very core of me.... "Cannot Read Disk". I am thinking "great now that I got up the balls to just do the wretched install over, the damn disk to format my drive will not run!" I do some inspecting only to find that the Utility disk is blue backed. After yet more inspecting I see that the disk I had just recently used to re-install POL(in a failed effort to revive) was also blue backed.

After taking a few moments to take a deep breath and compose myself, I shut it off for a while and decide that it is impossible that my PS2 had lost the capacity to play those damn blue disks in a matter of mere minutes. I put it in and BAM! I reformatted that thing so fast it would make your head spin.

Upon finally reformatting that blasted drive I go to do the update and am greated with a machine that stops while checking MY files before the update. 109.dat is a bitch. It turns out that I needed to install FF AGAIN because my woosie disc drive decided to skip that file.

Long story long, I have now fixed the problem, after like 6 hours of downloading that initial version update, two FF installs, Two POL installs, and a picky utility disk, I am back up and running. I have yet to load the expansions yet but all seemed well as I went out to test it as my lvl 10 Drg last night. No problems to report, in fact, it seems to run smoother than it did in begining.

Here is fingers crossed that the expansion install goes smoothly.

Buy her a copy for her laptop you mook.

Hell, if you want you can borrow my PC cds to install it. (This ok with the mods to say since he has an account?)

At the end of the day, no... But since he already plays the game and pays for an account, he is entitled to play it (by my jurisdiction) and hence technically already owns a copy of the game. They're just the files he needs to play a game he's already bought.

Carry on.

Yeah but I already have 3 different accounts, I am not adding another until somthing starts smoking.

you dont need another account to play it on the computer. you can use any and all of the 3 you already have. or you could just buy another ps2 cause psb is busted. but then you need to get a new hard drive.

it could just be the connection again, ive tried that and if your ps2 that is having problems is running while alot of other internet applications are running it wont go so hot, alot of stuff like that happens in networking.

now when you tried to play and it froze your screen on your accoutn did you immediatly after try on your wife's and it worked or were there a few (15-20 or more) later? cause then it could of been your router/modem

Nick, if you use my discs you don't have to pay for anything at all actually, other than your current account.

ya this is what im thinking, it might be your router. Ive had a similar problem where one my connections (2 ps2 and my computer (internet))
will not responed while the other 2 will work perfect. a reboot to the modem/router and the problem is solved.

Try switching the ps2 if the problem jumps to the other system then it your router/modem if it continue on the one that been having the problems then... toss it and get a new ps2/xbox360???

yup, try a new router.. couple nights ago he was being kicked off but his laptop is crap XD

just recently I got a new router and everything is running faster now without lag.

We can have up to... 5 computers and 2 PS2s running at the same time without lag so far

Actually the reinstall took care of all my problems, it was just a pain in the butt. I played last night for a few hours and I had no problems at all. Yay me! I am back in the game!

I appreciate the offer but I have no desire to play on pc really. I like to sit on my couch with a beer in my hands and play on my tv. Plus you got no netplay controller for the PC.... god I love that thing
