If BLM got nerfed, would you still play it?

Yeah, BLM comes with its own nerf... the "One-Shot". With all the other DD jobs, they can take a bunch of hits in comparison to BLM and still go strong.

a DRK with eva down on all his armor, DEF darkness down on his rings, and last resot or berserk is in just as much danger as a BLM with stoneskin+blink.

I have a few swords, I have a Bow, i have a ton of knives but I dont have the ability to make lightnight come out of the sky and strike things down.

what you need is a tazer or maybe a good cattle prod

It's been said that when SE wants to weaken Blms, they add more bunnies to a zone. Bunnies, it is said, exist solely to nerf aga spells. I can verify this first hand, as I once misjudged the radius of Blizzaga II the day I got it and nipped a bunny during a burst which coincidently linked a half dozen further off bunnies, and wiped my static. New spell anticipation + bunnies = death.

Bibiki Bay bunnies are the most terrifying mobs in this game

If 'ga spells are weakened any more, SE should just delete the things. To be honest, I don't know why SE even gave them to us. They clearly don't want us to use them. They made old-school FF mob hoard EXP battles nigh impossible; the traditional strength of the blm was the ability to damage all mobs at once. So then you think, well if it's only practical on too weaks, then 'ga spells would be handy for blm farming. I guess SE thought the combination of our overpowered staff strikes, combined with an mp pool that never needs to be rested would allow us to make too much loot from AOE farming, so they nerfed that. Aga spells are the biggest joke, the biggest waste of time in the game. When's the only time the average blm uses them? In a party against one mob, and not only that, when it's absolutely certain that no other mob can be hit by it. It's the total opposite of what an AOE should be for. SE can do whatever they want to the aga lineup. They already made them useless.

would i still lvl blm?
yes, and it would still have its fun moments.

I play multiple jobs though, so its not exactly like i'm a power hungry blm. Getting something new every lvl was probably the biggest drive i had lvling blm, the high numbers was a bonus.

I think the focus would be more towards elmemental magic then MAB like rngs need acc instead of str.
IMO though, making mobs more resistant and then doing this whole lower damage by repeated spells is silly as well.
what if one gets resisted? i see damage vary all over like on kirin.
one blm lands aeroga 3 for 950 next lands it for 37 :/ what would the next one land then? 20? i mean seriously think this out.

manaburns need to be gimped? excuse me if we arn't a party of 4 warriors spaming rampages on weapons or 4 monks going nuts on bones.
over powerdness is everywhere, people just seem to not like blms because 1/2 of them are complete utter dumb asses that spam one nuke after another and not stoping when the gain the mobs attention.

and blms are not exactly "one shot" death. If they play smart they can swap in gear that with stoneskin and phalanx and protect they would easily handle taking a few shots. (i have lived through wail whip from kirin after he took my 2 gimped shadows) I've taken 6 hits from a IT++ dhamel before dying because a whm didn't cure me.

granit those arn't huge numbers but i'm not exactly a single shot taru either, its all in how you play the job and swap your gear.

When people talk about blm being overpowered and needing to be nerfed, the 2 big things that always come up are 16 blm divine might one shotting the fight, and KS30 scorps blm merc teams. Both use -ga spells to quickly win what would otherwise be a fight that takes some skill to win. If you take that away from blm, then no real arguement for blm being overpowered would hold any weight.

I agree completely that -ga (and AM for that matter) are a waste of mp in standard exp parties outside MB in the few levels right after you learned them. That's why nerfing the damage when -ga spells hit multiple mobs would do nothing to blm outside from nerfing the one thing that could use some nerfing.

For the record, KSNM30 scorps is a cake walk with almost any setup, 6 nins or war/nin's or monks or rdms or 6 good whms. and set up with an AoE sleep move could take it just fine. it takes the same amount of skill to engage and alternate utsu macros as it does to hit thundaga III and sleepga II.

You show me 6 WHMs do that or any other KS30 fight and I'll concede BLM aren't too over-powered. Or perhaps a job that can do DM all by themselves?

Well, Monk onry DM has happened, but a lot of reraising occured, and it took longer than 30 seconds.

AND EVERY ABILITY GOD HAS GIVEN US NOT JUST ONE!!!!

Clarification there.

White mages are the only job that can Reraise III and never take a full EXP hit. Beastmasters used to be the only job that could solo straight to 75. Ninjas can allegedly solo ancient currency in Limbus (read it on allakazham). Thieves can get rich easier than any other job, with the best chance of getting the drop from a mob. Warriors and Monks can outDOT a Blm and with no down time at high levels, and they have the survivability to do so. Summoners can throw out Blm-worthy bursts once a minute and not get hate for it.

18 blms can easily win a once in a character lifetime mission battle, and you'd think we were the root of all evil. People overreact. As for BCNMs, almost every job has a BCNM suited to them. There are BCNMs that Blms can't do, and you don't see Blms whining. If people think Blms are overpowered, so be it. To an extent, I agree. Blms can throw out enormous spike damage, and sleep makes it less risky. But if one is going to throw around the "overpowered" line, at least have the right reasons. The right reasons aren't two trivial battles out of a million. The way people talk, you'd think no other job has anything good going for it. Every job does. You just have to look for it, and be willing to exploit it.

I'm always surprised whenever I see Skaw arguing Blms are overpowered. You're a level 75 monk that can probably kick the ass of any mob that SE throws at you. You have a whole rep around here for being so powerful. You should look at Blms as kindred spirits. A monk telling a blm he's too strong is a pot calling the kettle black (I guess in this case the kettle actually is black). Monks and warriors are pretty much unstoppable powerhouses.

There was also a brd only exp party off deco weapons. They had a variety of subjobs, a couple brd/war for vorpal blade, brd/whm for healing, etc. They made it up to chain 2 I think, but 20+ seconds of rebuffing between mobs hurts the chains.

Jobs have their strengths, and weaknesses. Nobody looks at the big picture for another job, they just see what that job does that they can't. That's why most people don't level smn or brd very far. They see something uber, and say "omg I want to do that." After about 30 levels, they see a good chunk of what the job really is, and drop it. Blm has big damage numbers but is limited by mp, with the defense and evasion of a snowman.

However much like smn there are aspects of the job that are too powerful. When you want to take on something big and your choices are 1 - throw a bunch of blm at it, 2 - throw a bunch of smn at it, or 3 - actually use some skill killing it with a normal group, then something needs to be changed.

If someone can think of a way to make melee life more exciting I'd support it 100%. I'm a big opponent of any of the job-stacking strategies to problems. I disapprove of "burn" parties also. The most enjoyable parties have no duplicated job. The most enjoyable alliances have a wide sampling of most of the jobs available. I agree that job-stacking is a problem. I disagree that weakening a job on the individual player level is the right solution. My longstanding solution to job-stacking is for SE to place game-coded limits on the number of one job that can be in a single party. In my ideal world, that limit was two. No more than two Blms in one party, adding up to no more than six Blms in a full alliance.

Why do I think weakening the top job to "stop job-stacking" is the wrong answer? Because there's always the next best job. People thought nerfing Ranger would level the playing field for melees everywhere, and that endgame would become an egalitarian utopia where all jobs are created equal. No such thing happenned. It probably took less than two minutes for all of Vanadiel to replace Rangers with Black Mages. In the event that Blm is made unsuitable for stacking, all jobs won't be created equal. It'd be naive to think such. 90% of the Blm community would pick up Summoner, and you'd be at square one with a new job in the spotlight.

Solving the problem of job-stacking has to be done at the source. The source is the mentality of the community. There's always another job to step up to the plate. SE will have to physically make job-stacking impossible. If they don't *force* the community to use all the jobs at their disposal, the community never will.
