Illegal to copy a cd you own to your computer. ever.

That's their argument, but that doesn't make it true. I hope they keep going down this road so their greed takes on an even more epic stature. I'll nod my head and agree that file sharing is illegal (not that it'd stop me), but personal use? Ha-ha-ha. Fuck those studio execs for even pretending to believe that shit.

I think it's funny that there's something of a gap between personal use standards for music and DVDs. It's okay to rip a CD, but gods help you if you rip your copy of Hot Fuzz to watch on your PSP.

Next up, a spate of lawsuits against people who record shows with TiVo.

Off topic, but i love that movie.

Danny Butterman: Have you ever fired two guns whilst jumping through the air?
Nicholas Angel: No.
Danny Butterman: Have you ever fired one gun whilst jumping through the air?
Nicholas Angel: No.
Danny Butterman: Ever been in a high-speed pursuit?
Nicholas Angel: Yes, I have.

God I hate some people.

I didn't read the article but in reponse to the OP: when you purchase a CD (item) you aren't purchasing just the CD, you are purchasing the rights to use the media that that CD offers - whether you want to listen to it on CD, tape, ipod, dvd, vhs is not relevant. If you want to burn 6 CDs and use them all personally, you are totally within you legal rights to do so. As long as you are the only person using the item it is legal. I doubt any law will be passed that says otherwise. Company's will develop ways for people to not copy it then smart people will develop ways to do it anyways lol.

The company is only doing that to attempt to find a new way to make money. They're greedy motherfuckers, don't see anything new about that =/

And yes, it is retarded. When you buy your CD, you may do anything you want with it, as long as
1) only you listen to it. That means, you may not play it on your speakers withing hearing range of anyone else
2) you don't distribute it

That means that theoretically, they can sue you for playing a CD for your friend. You are allowed to make a backup copy of it, as you own the information on the CD, as well as the DC. What you don't own is the rights to the information on the CD, which is why you may not distribute it. It is fully within your right to make a backup copy of it, however, as you own the material on it for life. You must immediately destroy any copies you made the moment you give the CD away or return it.

So unless the court in US is retarded, I don't see that lawsuit going anywhere...

The most ridiculous thing about all this is the amount they are charging people, nevermind this musical witch-hunt.

Those are life-wrecking sums they're throwing around there.

They can kiss my ass. If I purchase a CD or DVD, I will do with it what I damn well please. If I want to copy it to my hard drive and use the original disc as a coaster, that's my right. This shit makes me sick. When was the last time you bought a music CD for EVERY SINGLE SONG on the CD? Shit, if that was the case, I wouldn't buy a single CD. But for them to tell me I can't create an MP3 file for me to stream to my xbox360 or for use on my PSP, they can suck deez nutz. If a $.01 CD didn't cost $20, we wouldn't have this problem. Just like Uzor said, its a matter of fucking greediness. By all means, we wouldn't want all those celebrities out drinking and driving and addicted to smack to have to get REAL JOBS, now would we?

Seriously, whatever happened to the punishment fitting the crime or whatever.

Fuckers wanna try to make what they lose from a thousand people from 1 person cuz they can't get them all -_-

God damn this is pathetic. The reason I don't buy music anymore is because of the fucking RIAA, not because it costs money... I'll gladly support bands once the money actually goes to the bands, not these greedy fucks.

I seriously hope this shit makes it to the Supreme Court sometime soon, because there needs to be a decision made on this.

I don't even live in the US at this point in time and I already hate the RIAA because of this shit. I'm placing my faith in common sense in the hopes that the judges will find the RIAA completely retarded. If they fail these court proceedings, will they disband?

All the more people for EVERYONE to stop buying music completely. Same with DVDs too as the MPAA isn't any better than the RIAA.

It's all retarded. DVD's are just as bad. I just bought an upconvert DVD player, only to find out that my DVD's will not up convert. Not because of a lack of capability, but because my HD set is just old enough to have neither HDMI nor DVI. Now my TV is capable of 1080i through component, but they think I'll pirate the movie or some such bullshit, so they intentionally restrict the resolution capabilities of an analog signal. I'm still pissed.

Well, y'know, the RIAA need to do this, because they're not quite rich enough...
They'll starve!!
Do we want them to starve, now??

Hmmm....

Yes, yes we do.
