Ok so last night I had no problems what so ever except for the WoW patch causing add ons to break, and the shitty lagmania.

Well I went to bed no problems WoW was fine except for add ons, but that should be expected. I wake up this morning turn on my laptop to see dozens of Windows errors. Come to find the problem is with my graphics driver ok so I update that. Now my computer either turns to a black screen (with power still on), or I get horizontal bars up and down my screen. I keep trying a fucking virus scan to see if that the problem is a virus, but because of the freezing the virus scan never finishes. I am tired of this bull shit my laptop isn't even half a year old.

So now I am debating if I should just fucking back up my FFXI/WoW dat files, and other important stuff and just wiping my c drive and everything. This is seriously pissing me off.

Now for additional information my room normally stays around 85 degrees Fahrenheit. My mom doesn't believe me on this one, but if you walk into any other part of the house then my room you can feel a distinct difference between the temperature in my room and the rest of the house. So I have decided no matter what my mom says my window is staying open with a box fan to bring down the temperature in my room.

So before I go to these extremes does anyone have any advice for me.

When you change a graphics driver, you need to remove the old driver 1st, then install the new one. If you don't remove the old driver the 2 drivers will conflict with one another.

Did you remove the old driver ? If not i suggest you do that. You should be able to gain visual through safe mode.

And if you did remove the old driver 1st, then never mind what i said.

Games don't crash, or haven't in the past?

Is this Vista or XP? If it's the latter... you ain't seen nothin yet.

i've heard Vista is a MAGICAL piece of work. like, epic fail levels. XP has it's problems, but so does every OS. even if the problem is that nothing good (specifically game-wise) is MADE for the OS.

honestly, this sounds like a hardware problem, i think you've fried something. i think you've fried your video card. Sometimes, if dust builds up in your computer it can build up in the fan and snap it off. i had this problems a couple of computers ago, the fan wasn't self-encased the way lots of fans are nowadays and dust built up.. the fan wheel hit a clump of dust that had built up the wrong way and poof. Windows looked fine... mostly but any time of game? forget it.

yeah romper...i just killed my laptop a few weeks ago...

I'm gonna buy a cooling fan for it, because this little fan couldn't power a freakin paper sailboat

It's XP and the Driver update only updated the old driver system that was already installed. I will go delete the old one if it is a solo file though. I am not having problems right now.

Wow was just lagtastic yesterday after the patch, but I had gotten on later no problem. I had problems before where windows would stop, and give me an error report of a driver causing a conflict with windows XP. I ran RAM checks, checked for driver upgrades, and windows upgrades. Eventually that problem sorted itself out after slowing acceleration of my graphics drive and letting it sit there for a day. Then I reset it back to where it was, and haven't had problems since.

I haven't had a problem with games yet. I should try XI see if anything happens to my laptop. I hope to god that it's not my graphics card because it's integrated onto my fucking motherboard.

Edit: Nvm my screen went black again blinked light grey then my moniter reset. I just got an error report to send ot ATI saying VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphic driver commands.

Edit 2: Of course I can't fucking send the report because I don't use MS outlook express.
For reference of my laptop it's a gateway notebook model #MX6448.

It seems you are behind a firewall.

Lol Yes I am, but all of the ports that are needed are open. I know how a firewall works.

Oh, I didn't doubt it. I was just making fun of WoW's stupid downloader. God that thing pisses me off. I don't know how to fix your problem though, not too computer savvy here. I was just thread stalking you.

Ok this is where my problem has just began a new. Apparently (thank god for warnings) The warning I just got is: The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Pluse update your ati graphics driver, or enable your ATI adapter using the displays manager.

So wtf, and can someone please please give me a dummy guide on how to update my drivers. I went to the ati/amd site and downloaded directly off the website their driver update to the MS Windows XP professional> Integrated/Motherboard> Raedon Xpress 1150 chip set. I know for a fact this is my chip set as I went to get my friggin box, and double checked. This is starting to piss me off.

Edit 1,000: Just checked my display and checked driver via windows. IT say my driver is working fine.

Edit 1001: Just updated my driver again via windows. /crosses fingers.

Edit: Seems to be working now. If it doesn't I'm rolling this thing back so far.

When you went to download your driver there should have been a couple options: one just for the display driver and one for the full suite including CCC. You'd want the second of the above as the CCC is updated relatively frequently.

i've heard Vista is a MAGICAL piece of work. like, epic fail levels.
If DirectX 10 didn't exist, or was at least available for download, I'd be back on XP in a heartbeat.

Vista isn't bad enough to push one to suicide, but it's pretty close. I've disabled and nullified most of the annoying things but there are still some issues and services that cannot be "fixed".

When you have multiple drivers it sometimes works when you reboot it, other times it won't work at all, and other times, it will work then go retarded when you least expect it, but it happens very soon.

I'll tell you the proper way to install a graphics Driver (which is recommended by ATI themselves) Unless you're laptop goes apeshit again, then do this....

1st Just simply remove the old driver/drivers

There are 3 ways i know of doing this, because you can see what is in there i'd say the best way is to go to the "device manager"

-Controll panel, click on system, Go to Hardware tab, click on Device Manager.

Now you're in the Device manager You will see a list of the machines hardware with a + next to each one. locate Display adapters and click the + next to it to open up the driver list.

On the most part you should only see 2 items in that list, even if there is more or less than that, they need to go regardless the name of them. I'm sure you'll see 2 cause you did that update thing, which sux.
(If you have to know the 2 items are for the 1st and 2nd monitor outputs)

-Right click the drivers and choose to un-install.

You'll be prompted to restart before the changes take effect, after removing the drivers restart the PC.

When the PC restarts do not have a stroke, you're desktop will be at a very low rez. 640X480.

Locate the Driver you downloaded then install it. ( I'm guessing you got the 41 meg driver for your X1150)

Restart the PC. Should be stable.
.
.
.

And that is the proper way of installing a graphic driver.

If you're GPU is still unstable after this, then there may be permanant damage there. I once fried an ATI 128 pro. I put it in 3 different PCs and it has these permant green dots that show up at the bottom of the screen no matter what is done

If there's "mention" from any software that you need to update a graphic driver, that is damn weird, you'll most likely be better off ignoring it, unless you're GPU starts to cack out before you do anything about it, then change the driver for starts.

well i did the update n it fucked windows up the sys restore just finished i lost a lot of music n shit :-\ my cat chewed my mp3 player cord so i cant really get that back sry 4 wall im on my wii

edit: HELL FUCKING YES! I remembered I had put the songs onto the desktop down stairs. Go go DVD burner.

I will try your way Ant because I am back to my original problem of blue screen of death.

Update is only good when the graphic drivers are from microsoft, which is why i suggested you ignore the update feature. Do it the way i posted. Except work on it in safe mode now.

take the graphic driver right out 1st. If you don't do it properly it will get worse everytime you try to overwrite a driver.

The Driver does not overwrite, nor does it properly update, remove the driver first. I showed you how.

Antt now that I got my windows restored (windows wouldnt start when I tried rolling back or booting into safe) how do I go about updating/removing? Just do it the same way?

The goal is to install the driver you downloaded from the amd/ati site manually. Put that file on you're desktop for now.

1st you need to remove the driver so

-Step 1: Removal of the Driver

- Go to "Controll panel", click on "System", Go to the Hardware tab in the window that pops up, click on "Device Manager".

.

Now...

You're in the Device Manager. Click on the + sign next to where it says Display adapters

The sub list will unfold You will see 2 items in that sub list for Display adapters. that is you're driver

"Right click" them, a list of options will appear.

You want to Un-install them boath.

Ok it, close the device manager, restart the PC.

.
.
.
.

WHEN you log back in. You're resolution will be set to 640x480. Ugly. But that is ok.

-Step 2: Instalation of new Driver

Locate the new driver (Should be on you're desktop like i asked)

Now run the new driver you downloaded from the website by clicking on it. Follow the steps given to you to install, peice of cake from here and the rest is downhill.

Restart the machine when it's done. And everything should be stable when you log back in. You should be able to crank the card too

.
.
.

Even though i think you will do this no problem, if you get stuck in any of the above steps let me know what problems you're facing.

saving time
Catalyst Software Suite 43.1MB 7.5 May 31, 2007
Display Driver
Catalyst Control Center (English Only)
GART Driver
South Bridge Driver

Downloaded and saved onto my desktop now I remove the old ATI Radeon Xpress 200M Series display adaptor for what is saved on my desk top right? (After restarting) Sorry I just sort of want to make sure I have this stuff done correctly because I don't want to go through another windows re-installation.

Yes you're on the right track....

When you remove the old display adapters you then install the new driver on the desktop.

So remove them .... restart the PC.

IMPORTANT:

If you log in and the screen resolution is not retarded, go back to the Device manager and remove another driver. All display drivers must be GONE before you install the new one.
.
.
.

So when you log in and the resolution and graphics are fugged up. You know it's time to start the new instalation.

EDIT: Remove driver ... Restart PC ... only when graphics are Fugged up, install new driver
