Why is it so hard for a regular party to get along with Beastmasters?

I used to try to be considerate of other parties. I would move if one stole my camp. I would shrug it off if one killed my pet. I just dealt with it.

But no more.

Last night was it. Starting now, the next time a party comes into my camp, I'm going to continue to pull and use <leave> like normal without regard to whether or not the party will die from an accidental link. Yes, I will continue to try to be diplomatic. I will continue to issue my warning:

"Caution: BST camp. <Leave> may cause accidental aggro."

But I am done making allowances for people who don't make allowances for me. I have just as much righ to mobs as a regular party, plus, I have less leeway when deciding on where to level.

What brought this on, you ask? Last night, some asshat in the Crawler's Nest decided to follow me around killing all of my pets the instant I hit <leave> Well...he didn't follow me very far, as I was pretty much camping in the same spot for about four hours. He sat there waiting for me to use <Leave>, then he would finish my pet off. I slapped him every time he did it, too, but it didn't seem to make a difference. I asked him politely to stop, and he responded with "Level somewhere else." (lol...where?) He also laughed at me every time I died (three times in the half hour he pestered me). Apparently, he doesn't realize that my ONLY two choices at this level are Crawler's Nest and Garliage Citadel. Both of them suck immensely. I almost went and chained a bunch of crawlers to him so he would learn what it means to piss off a BST, but I refuse to stoop that low.

So I am now faced with the fact that had I been left to level in peace, I would be able to move on because I would have achieved my level. Since assholes wouldn't leave me alone, I'll be forced to level in Crawler's Nest one more night.

So this is a note to all the ignorant sons a bitches who think they know what it takes to be a BST. I have gone through hell to level my BST, and I am just beginning to see some of the rewards. Don't think that a couple of puny deaths in Crawler's Nest are going to deter me. There is no harder job in the game to level than BST, and I've already made it through the hardest part. I'll just take down the names of all the assholes and remember them when they need a BST down the road a ways. It always comes full circle.

However, I have a feeling that these assholes are just jealous people who don't have what it takes.

I heard (provided you're in the Soldier Crawler-phase) That Yuhtunga/Yhoator is a good area as well, but that takes a bit of a walk.

Why did you start a thread about posting the names of asshats like that without actually posting the asshat in questions name? Would be handy.

actually the one time I went to Crawler's nest a couple of weeks ago, You gave out the same warning

"Caution: BST camp. <Leave> may cause accidental aggro."

Then decided to Leave the pet on my party's first pull as an MPK attempt...

At the time I thought, maybe it was on accident, oh well I just move camp further in..... BUT, seeing your post just made me realize that YOU LEFT YOUR FUCKIN MOB ON PURPOSE TO LINK WITH OUR PULL.

We weren't stealing your mob, and other parties have JUST the same right as you to camp in that tunnel area. Just because ur a BST doesn't mean everyone else NEEDs to leave your camp alone, and apparently, you think Leaving your pet along the way of our pull route is a funny way of MPKing us/telling us to leave then I dare you to do it again next time and I WILL call the GM.

And that "Asshat" that keeps killing your Leave pets, I'm sorry, but it's probably the same "Asshat" that you tried to MPK, that's why he's doing that to you.

It was a warning. I dunno about you, but I think that probably means you should be careful...

This is the type of attitude that gives us BSTs a bad name. It's okay to call someone out (especially on a flameboard), but if you're going to start threatening MPKs when people won't leave "your" camp, you're just being an assclown.

I had an xp pt that lasted for several hours in CN and we had a BST by us the whole time. We kept out of his way, he kept out of our way. Only once did one of his pets aggro us from Leave and he immediately came to reclaim it, apologize, and leave it further away. It's very possible for a BST and a pt to level together, you just both compromise. Don't forget that really there aren't a whole lot of options for regular pts at every level either.

A good BST won't leave his pet right on top of your party.
Same area is ok, but almost the same exact spot? BST, <No thanks>.

We partied in Gustav the other day and we were there all by ourselves for a while. We saw a few BSTs that night, and most moved away from our camp and did their thing. One of them camp just behind us and left his pet for us a few times. ><

Sorry, but I have no sympathy for BST that does this. Go the hell away. Find your own spot. Don't expect 6 people who have been in the same spot for a while to move for you. Do expect /slaps, pet stealing, /tells to piss off, etc.

This one nice bst duo in lower garlaige would move bats that could link/aggro when i pulled beetles and he was killing bones i think.

No doubt. There are asshole BSTs just like there are assholes playing every other job. But 90% of BSTs are not assholes and know what they are doing. They just have to deal with the bad rep that the other 10% earn for doing shit like that. :(

I've never had a problem with beastmasters in the game past the crap-he's-killing-mobs-we-are thing. I've pulled a half dozen 13 xp mobs in my career, but never had any direct antagonism from them.

There is no reason for a bst to antagonize a party. There is no reason for a party to antagonize a bst. However, my side usually sides with parties. The bst is rather wasting resources. He's usually one person consuming at the rate of 5 of his peers. Sometimes it can get a little discourteous, because this game would be ruined if everyone were so inefficiently eating resources.

I have nothing against bst. I simply usually side with the team players when there is confrontation. If it's crowded, two things will solve the problem: 6 people can leave, or one person can leave. You would have to do some darn good convincing to persuade me that the bst shouldn't bow out.

This isn't true though. A bst generally keeps one pet that he fights against as many mobs as he can. The fights generally take a bit longer than a 6 person pt fight. For every 3 mobs the pt kills, the bst has probably killed 2 at the most. That's dead even. Nothing is "wasted". More than likely the pt is going faster than the bst though, unless they totally suck ass.

For a duo or trio of bsts, that's a few more pets yes, but when there are more pets there are less chances of those pets dying so they don't have to occasionally grab new ones.

Peregrine said:

Again I disagree. If a BST has been around for 2 hours levelling and the xp is flowing, if 2 pts suddenly move in why should the bst have to move? That's hardly fair and most people would agree if it was another pt instead of a bst.

The flipside is also true. If a pt is in a camp for a few hours and a BST comes in, they shouldn't try to take over the pt's camp. So for "pt vs bst", I side with whomever was there first.

^^ I would think this is a general rule of thumb.

If a BST was where I wanted to position my party, I'd try somewhere near first, but not ON the BST. If that didn't work, I'd ask the BST how much longer he planned on staying. If it was going to be some time, it would be my party that should relocate.

Again, if the pt and beast are killing mobs evenly (you said 3:2 ratio, which is fine), you're forgetting that this means:

6 people are benefitting from 3/5 of that area's mobs, while 1 is benefitting from 2/5 of that area's mobs. Thus you can do the math and see that the bst is the huge consumer of the zone. And as such, in my opinion, should recognize that and at least take it into consideration.

I really appreciate the advice. I'm one level past Yuhtunga being a viable leveling place, and one level away from Yhoator being a viable leveling place. Life is good when I can chain kamakaze gobs to my heart's content. Altepa is my only other possibility, but the risk is just not worth the reward there.

Well, I figured the title of the thread would say it all. I don't remember the name. Truthfully, I try as hard as I can to forget the names of idiots when it comes to this game. In this instance, I remember the fellow's name started with three consonants that didn't go together well. However, if we contemplate the fact that since I first walked into CN, I have endured three MPK's, five deaths from people (three times the same person) who intentionally claimed a potential pet when I really needed it, and several hours of frustration from three differerent players who felt the need to follow me around and kill all of my pets within seconds of using <Leave>, it is easy to see why I don't remember names much.

Like the title of the thread implies, though, I am going to start taking names.

Yes, I remember that quite well as it was the only time I ever gave that warning in Crawler's Nest. A party tried to camp on top of me, so I let them know what was happening. Three different people pointed at me, five people checked me, and two people slapped me. The end result was a level 72 PLD mpking me and a call to a GM. That was my very first triip into Crawler's Nest.

You have to realize something. A BST is going to use <Leave> after EVERY battle. Any person who is past level 20 or beyond rank 3 who does not know this should be ashamed of him/herselff.

I had a run-in with a GM from an incident in a secluded corner of Yuhtunga Jungle involving this very same scenario. Some dumbass claimed one of my former pets (a Lizard) while I was using a Lizard to fight a gob. Well, the gob started the Bomb Toss sequence when he had a sliver of HP left, and I knew the Bomb Toss had a shot of killing me. I needed to act fast, so I used <Leave> and WS'd the gob for the kill. I turned to reclaim my pet so it wouldn't kill the poor dumbass who was going to kill my other pet, and he had taken off running in an attempt to kite the mobs. I failed one charm, and it was all over for him. The poor sap called the GM, and he supported me ever step of the way. BST's use <Leave>, and we use it regularly. If a BST is leveling, it is just common sense to give him space just as one would to a normal party.

I never intentionally <leave> my pets in a pull route. It's kind of hard not to, though, when the pull route is a tunnel with no escape routes. Furthermore, it is impossible to level a BST effectively without using <Leave>.

Moch said:

I've never tried to mpk anyone. I've accidentally mpk'd three people (never a party). All three times, I tried to stop the damage. All three times, I got off a charm that failed, and all three times the guy who died either claimed the mob (making it impossible to re-charm) or ran away (making it impossible to re-charm).

If one ever gets a link from a released BST pet, the best thing to do is to ask the BST to recharm it. Don't run away. Don't attack it.

I have been accused of mpk's a lot more than that. Hell, a few nights ago in Crawler's Nest, I was accused of mpking when I hadn't even charmed anything yet. People just hate BST's, I guess.

I never threatened an MPK. In fact, my exact words were: "I refuse to stoop that low."

I have had such happenstances as well. I've been able to level side by side with parties in Qufim, Valkrum, Altep, Yhoator, etc, etc, etc. We can usually find a compromise. However, I have found no such compromise in Crawler's Nest. People tend to /check, /point, and /slap a lot in CN. I've also left parties as other jobs where people aren't very nice to the resident BST. Always remember, a BST is going to try to find a place as far away from others as possible to level, and part of the reason is because a good BST relies on his instincts on where to find the next charmable mob to survive. If others are killing those mobs, it is impossible to know where they all are. It is a severe handicap to start with for me having to level in CN simply because others are there. I would be happier with a little less unprovoked animosity.

I'm happy to see that a level 1 BST knows more about my job than I do.

My point is, I'm trying as hard as I can to find a place where I don't have to deal with parties. I stay as far away as I possibly can, but it is awefully frustrating when a party sets up camp and pulls a linkable mob right to me when I'm in the middle of the battle, then expects me to risk my neck to disengage and move so I can use <leave> and get full XP for the kill.

Yes, I try to keep my disntance from parties, but I prefer to stay in one spot....a spot away from linking spawns. I have a huge problems with parties setting up and pulling their first mob while I am in the midst of a battle on that exact same spot. I just don't understand this. It has been common sense to me ever since I was a level 1 THF to stay away from other people's fights if only to avoid AoE attacks. Too many people haven't quite grasped this concept.

Find me a BST that intentionally camps on top of a party. It is not in the nature of the job to do this. A BST will typically die 3-5 times per level (more like 7-10 pre-35) and most of those deaths are because of parties. We stay as far away as we can.

Believe it or not, I have yet to meet a bad BST.

Oh, this is so untrue. Do you really think a BST can kill mobs as fast as a six person party? A party tends to kill 3-4 mobs in the time it takes me to kill one, if you include my downtime recovering precious MP. And believe me when I say that I would party instead if anyone would invite me.

I hate to say it, but this is the type of ignorance that prompted me to write the post. I'll side witth whoever is there first, and when I'm in a party as another job, I'll always yield the right of way to the BST.

Believe me when I say that I'm not going anywhere anymore when a party camps on top of me.

I can't wait to level past this nightmare that is the Crawler's Nest.

What's plain as day is that you missed the point. You saw what you wanted to see. Take your pills, and reread.
I'm not against BSTs, and do plan on leveling it some day. I'm sure I'll face similar challenges. You have more experience with the job, sure, but knowing more? It seems like your choices leave something to be desired.
I'm not saying parties can't be jerks to BSTs. But my examples weren't biased. I showed both sides of the coin...So be fair, and at the least, don't be a smart ass. If you be a dick, plenty of people will just tell you to fuck off.

Hmmm, that didn't come out exactly as I wanted it to.

My point was I mentioned some things, and I do understand the "rights" of every player, but for whatever reason you didn't see that, or chose not to.

Who said I stole a BST's spot? What made it his? If he was there before, I don't know when that was because I was there hours before he showed up. He parked ON us and kept leaving his pets. It was just an example. But I've also mentioned that I can see the flipside.

I wish I haven't met a bad BST. Tarahn, you are probably the most fortunate person I know, in this regard.

no...sneaky... your party prolly coulda easily found a different camp.. I really hate seeing a BST trying to level on their own and a party comes along and is like "let's camp here even though a BST is already here and exping and prolly been here awhile" If it was a full party I'd sure as hell bet that your group would have moved. I don't see why a BST shouldn't get the same attention. If you see a BST already at a camp... find a new one... not always that hard..

I don't know a lot about BST. All I do know is I've not had much luck with them. Most of the times 'when I setup at my camp' and 'a Bst comes along', it means links or AOE to deal with in the future.

If most BST aren't like that, then thank god, means I have to deal with 100% of the assholes and you guys luck out by meeting the nice ones.

I agree you dumb shit...I even reposted it with an explanation.

WE WERE THERE FIRST, in this example.

Earlier in the thread, Rappa even said to side with whoever was there first, to which I agreed. So why do you people keep getting it backwards?
