In case the title was somehow misleading, this thread is for One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. I was surprised it was already out, so I grabbed it as soon as I found a store with it in stock.
This game is an awesome adaptation of the show. The opening cut scene captures the show perfectly, the graphics are great and the gameplay is pretty solid. I've been playing for a couple hours and I've gotten all of the characters(you start with just Luffy but get them pretty fast) and I've opened up some of the gameplay features.
This game is an action-adventure RPG; you start out with basic moves and you learn new ones by mastering your current moves. With Luffy, you start the game with gum-gum Punch, use that enough and you learn gum-gum whip; use both of those enough and learn gum-gum gatling gun; and so on. Each character has their own moves(same buttons/motions, just different moves), with different development trees. Some moves require something to be synthesized before you can use it.
The synthesis is useful; you can collect materials pretty easily and you just have to return to your base camp to save/fully heal/synthesize your materials. So far, I've unlocked 2 development trees and a cooking tree; I'm guessing there will be a fourth once I make the right items. You start with Usopp and Franky(he's not in the American version yet, he's two arcs later than where they are), with Franky I was able to make a stove, which opened up Sanji's tree for cooking. Cooking food seems to give you permanent stat boosts to your HP/SP; I'm willing to bet that I'll be able to make more items once I create some compounding tools so that Chopper can make some medicine.
The story is pretty basic so far, but I've spent most of my time exploring so I haven't progressed much. You can skip the next paragraph if you'd like to be surprised, but honestly you'd be at this point after an hour or so of playing and there's really nothing worth calling a spoiler in there.
Basically, while you're sailing(presumably from Water7 since you have Franky, but Brook isn't there so it can't be after the Thriller Bark arc, especially since that arc's not quite done yet); Luffy, Chopper and Usopp ate all the crew's food in an eating contest, so now they're fishing hoping to get enough to live until the next island. Luffy fishes up a big blue orb and puts it in his pocket. He shoots himself up into the sky to see if there's any Islands around, and screams out for them to come out of hiding; then an Island rises out of the water and they get separated. So as you go around collecting your crew, you discover this island can grant the wishes of the orb holder and that it was sealed away for the good of humanity. That's as far as I've gotten, after that I headed back to my camp to go synthesize things.
The game's fun, the style is dead-on to the show and it's definitely worth getting if you're a fan of the show.
Edit: I forgot to mention, they have completely re-animated some scenes of the series with the 3D graphics of the show, at several points there'll be flashbacks to some events in the past and that's when they show these clips.
