So I've quit the game like four or five times before. The first time I posted some long message about it, and then came back after like four or five months. FFXI is really weird. I hate it, but I can't stop playing it. I get sick of playing it, and I don't have the time it takes to play this specific game anymore, so I always end up leaving for 1-3 months at a time, and then coming back. I've gotten so far behind in the "end game" and there's no point in me playing the game other than to level up jobs (which I got seven to 75). I've been playing (on and off, mostly on) FFXI for six years, and I think I'm really ready to pull the cord on it this time.
One of the reasons for me giving the game up is one that I never expected would happen: I'm playing WoW.
I hated WoW when it first came out, but it seems to have changed for the better. It's so easy to get things done in the game, and the instant gratification is something I'm really enjoying. Way back in the day (2004?), when WoW first came out, pretty much my entire linkshell, DragonAsh, left FFXI to play WoW, except for me a few stragglers.. DragonAsh was the first NA shell on our server to kill Kirin, which was a huge deal back in the day.. now a pickup group can do it easily. I enjoyed the game a lot more back then because I had less responsibilities, especially while in OuterHeaven. I was jobless and didn't have to pay rent or any bills, so I was able to help OH stay in sky almost 24/7. That was fun, but life goes on, and I just can't do the things in this game that I want to do. The only things I have time for are campaign battles and exp parties.
So, anyhow, just saying that while I might pop in from time to time, I'm basically done with FFXI. I'm sure I've made a few enemies from some snide remarks I've made, but I never hold grudges against anyone, so don't take any of it personally.. moods change!
Anyhow, I don't know what I'm going to do with my character. I wish I could get someone to play it since it's pretty versatile, but almost everyone that I've really been friends with in FFXI is long gone.
I hate making posts like this, but with my playtime being over 600 days and having spent so much of my life playing the game over the past few years, I feel it's worth the few minutes it takes to write the post. I will still read the forums, but for the most part, I'm outta heeeeeeeeeeere.
