I'm planning on getting FFXI (hopefully)

Hello....
I am planning on getting FFXI (hopefully)...
I really want to get it though. Anyone got any super helpful things on jobs or job/subjob combinations or race/job combinations.
I have liked mage classes and damage classes but I do not like being a tank.
So any helpful information would be appreciated.

(my friend plays on this server so thats how i got this site...)

BLM/WHM is great if you don't mind doing heavy damage from a distance. If you like being up close and personal, a melle job is a better choice for you. Also, BLM/WHM get invites pretty quickly, so if you're not the type who enjoys waiting for hours and hours to get an invite, it's a good choice. Not sure how much of a wait most melle jobs have compared to BLM, but it was nearly intollerable when I played DRK.
 
Also one thing to learn right off, race/class really doesnt make a bit off diff later in the game, so dont let what race you wanna be make you comprimise on what class you wanna be, or visa vera, i have partyd with taru plds that kicked ass!, and galka mages that kicked just as much ass.

also since in ffxi you can change classes at any time, instead of having to creat a enw charcter like in most MMO's you can play around with many diff classes, and get the feel for wich one is for you, i know very few ppl that ONLY play one class.

Goodluck on getting the game, and hit me up if yu need any advise/help on anything.
 
It is a lot of your personal preference as to what you look like... I personally like tarus because they're cute and have good stats actually (despite our horrible HP).

BLM/WHM will be your best choice, it do good damage, and can do Magic Burst and do even more damage

SMN/WHM also a good job for you, those avatar can do massive damage also in higher level, and with the 2 hours job "Astral Flow" can do like really massive damage,

BLM/WHM and SMN/WHM is your best recommended choice
 
Don't listen to people. Try out the jobs for yourself and see what you like best. :)

dont let them stir you away from the real job. rdm/blm or rdm/whm
best job in the game hard to start get started but once you get 42 party invite galor, also rdm can hold there own in many a fight. o ans some other good ffxi sites are

Yiu guys are forgeting one thing, he can't get an advance job untill he gets a basic job to lvl30.

Seeing as how only one person suggested an advanced job, and before that they suggested BLM..I don't think anyone forgot.

I personally love playing dark. I haven't had any problem finding, or making parties.

I will say I got very frustrated with it before I spent the time to get better gear. If you don't have accuracy gear, you dont' hit, period. At least that was the case as an elvaan dark.

Now that I have like +1zillion accuracy, I'm doing great damage, and my dot is right up there with every damage dealer I party with.
