...to lose to Carrion Dragon. I didn't even really want to do the quest but I was bored, friend insisted I do it, so I did. After the NPC joined, five hits later the thing turns, does Petro Eyes on me. Petrified.
It wails on me for a while, NPC grabs hate, and nearly instantly...Petro Eyes. NPC is petrified. F-!king yay.
So there I stand, my friend and two others get to watch me get beaten on by this retarded dragon, before I finally die, because over the course of the 5-so minutes, Petrify also didn't feel like wearing. Goddamn yay. -_-;
Not sure if I wanna feel embarassed or just flat-out pissed that the mob pulled that crap....and now, I'm in the debate of waiting for a friend with R2/3 to be on, or just eating a R1 and a ~2k exp loss along with it..
 
If it makes you feel any better, I believe Pupusa said he lost to it. ^^b
 
If it makes you feel better i waited 2hours in Eld. Nerco. just for the bone NM, got him down to 10% health then blood drain pushed him up to 70% again and killed my NPC , and another 2hrs on that line? now THAT sucks ;;
 
Hopefully it won't be an entire 2k loss. You *should* only lose what a lvl40 would if Im not mistaken. I fell for you though. Sounds like plain old fashioned bad fricken luck.
 
Summon Ifrit, attack, Double Punch, attack for a minute, NPC appears, Astral Flow, Inferno, Win.

dont worry bout it. i think i was like the second 1 to lose on the first day. i got petrified too ><

the second time around though, i shadowbinded it and kited it around while my npc hit it till it was near death, then i EES it, finished the quest, and went to bed, XD
 
Don't worry about the exp loss, it'll only be minimal. If my numbers are right, it's only 544 base exp lost, less if you get a raise and/or have the Exp. moghancement. Or there might not even be exp loss in that fight (I know some BC fights don't have an exp penalty for death, like Maat, mini avatars, and all ENMs).

But yeah, that sucks. Kinda funny, though...
 
Dying when level-capped, you either don't lose exp (a la ENM), or you lose exp appropriate to a death at the level you're capped.

Not entirely sure R2/R3 do anything special for a sub-50 (level-capped) death either (even if your corpse is uncapped at a high level when you actually get raised), but I admit that it's not the sort of thing I've gone out and tested.
 
I killed this sucka as a THF40/nin in a Dream hat, Swim suit +1 and some himantes(Lv. 40 H2h weapon) with 50 H2h skill. :P
 
Aww.. Mish.. Don't worry. I died too, the first time I fought it.

....going in naked with no weapons and only wearing snipers rings was not as good an idea as it sounded. :oops: :oops:

I went all out on his ass the second time as a war/nin and ofcourse completely owned him. >.>

Well, least I'll only lose exp based on L40 (supposedly/hopefully). Gives me the motivation to actually accept a R1...god, when was the last time I did THAT..

my NPC died the first time because I thought it was supposed to tank... and I didn't know that if it dies I lose... so I just tanked the 2nd time around and won easily.. naked... with no weapon... and little hand to hand skill...
 
i beat him first time, except, after my npc joined he used petro eyes on both of us and started wailin on me since most hate was on me (DAMN YOU TACHI: ENPI!). it got me to like 150 hp and the petro wore, so i 2hr'd and killed it. oh, btw, i solo'd both nm's, so if i could SOLO the dragon, you can too, mish. don't give up! :D

ya, the fight isnt that hard. I'd bet you'll take him down pretty easy your second time around.

i went in as a lvl 40 PLD (mind you, the only gear i had was my Kingdom Aketon and the Centurion's Sword i had bought from the AH moments before the BC)
He Petrified me also, and my NPC was never able to gain hate back, so i just got the shit beat outta me til my NPC killed it. fun stuff

ya, i decided to reactivate my account a few days back, decided to give the ol' FFXI another try. I havent yet decided whether i'ma stick around for the long-run or not. It has been nice to wonder around and visit with old friends though.
