Well I've been playing since PS release. I've accomplished many things in my time and have met tons of cool people. I've seen many come and go and I'm feeling my time may be near. I'm saddened by this and I'm having trouble making the final call. I've been logging on but I just don't have an urge to play. I've really enjoyed playing FFxi although the first 2 years almost cost me my marriage but thankfully I have a very good woman who stuck out all the bad times with this game. I'm not sure why I'm writing this but I guess I'm just wondering how others are feeling. The game has been out for a long time and I'm sure there are people who are just going through the motions because they feel they have to, thats almost how I feel. Its very hard to put down something that you have put so much of your self in. Vorhan feels like an extension of myself and taking that part away scares me I guess. It feels good to tell this to people that might understand how I feel. My wife and friends just don't understand. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope it doesn't bore you to tears.

Take a break for a few months.
You'll know if you still want to play by the end of your sabbatical.

I know exactly what you mean. I've been where you are.

My recommendation? Quit, and don't look back. It's soooo not worth losing people you love. You can't just cut back, and you won't just lose interest eventually...you must quit now.

Good advice in this thread so far. I personally take breaks for a month or two every so often. Tristam and I were having problems due to playing so much so we took a long break during the Christmas holidays. If it is enough of a problem that it's straining your marriage, quit. It's all temporary ingame but family and life is forever.

Even after coming back, we only played initially for one or two days a week.

Now, we're back up to nearly every day again, but I'm trying to cut back some and make time for going out, taking short trips, and the like.

Listen to these folks. I'd say that if you don't come back after a month or two, and you find no urge to play ffxi again (and i'm not talking about logging in due to habit), it'd be time to cancel and move on.

You know, when I first read the "warning" message when you are logging. The one that says something like "remember you have family and friends", I laughed...

After 7 lost friends and many yellings from the wife, I know that was written there for a reason.

ps- Take vacations from the game like I do, it helps.

I would just go take a break, and after if you feel like don't want to play anymore, just delete it. I took a break for 6 months and now i think about to take a break again to keep going on my career.

P.S. RL > FFXI

If you have to ask whether you should play or not play, the answer is most likely not play.

Simple as that.

I recently came back after a month or so break.
I never found my playtime affecting my marriage or social life anyway, but then again, I'm the type to have no problem shutting down to go do something else. But before I took my "break" I'd just log in and... not leave my mog house. I just didn't have any desire to do anything ingame. Eventually I wanted to log back in, I wanted to go merit, and then, it was back to the norm.
I haven't signed for 3 days as it stands right now.

Although i am not personally married i would definitely say that marriage is more important then FFXI, obviously. but after awhile I'm sure life will settle down, and you will have alot of free time to deal with. As long as you give your wife plenty of attention ;), You should be able to have fun in FFXI. The trick is not to ware yourself out. Personally assaults & Dynamis are events that keep me going, but im sure you have events that you find fun also, the key is to find a group for whatever event you enjoy and just log in for that. Eventually I'm sure "fun" will extend itself from the friends you make from that event. Best of luck, remember this game is nothing compared to your RL, have fun and be true to yourself.

Break for 2 months seems to be the answer. If your still wondering after that, than another month.

Good luck Vor!

Vorhan I will miss you greatly we've had tons of fun together with all of cop, most of ToAU. Countless deaths, a buncha laughs, and a few heartfelt moments. My suggestion is take a break if you need too, suspend your account, and then come back if you need to. At least come back to say hey I'm leaving or staying. Cut your time back like Finnley & Kaik have 3 days a week. Spend the other 4 doing whatever. Set a time limit on them 3 days like ok pc shuts off at midnight later! *poof*.

I know what you mean about Vorhan being a part of yourself. Veld has been a part of me in some shape or form since 1990 :) from D&D, MUSHes, MUDs, RPG Games, and FFXI now :).

Let us know what you decide man. We were worried when you took that 3 week vacation and we didn't know what happened. ;)

take a break from the game and wait for the urge to return :P

I quit playing FFXI back in December and I have to admit there have been times where I've felt like re-activating my account, not for the game play, but for the friends that I've left behind, I miss them all greatly but in the end I just thought to myself "is it really worth paying 15 bucks a month to just talk to people and not enjoy the game?" You'll find your own reasons eventually, just thought I'd give my 2 cents.

I hear ya Vor. I took a month break and I really enjoyed the time in RL. It helps to set limits. I play 3 days a week for about 4 hours a stretch most of the times.

It's hard as hell to get anything done, but I am happy to have a healthy real life that won't suffer.

My wife plays also, and I am really happy about that. I think if I was in the same situation as you I would be just as torn.

You are a great person Vor, and not just your character. When we had just 5 for a COP static we ran into many people that were not that great to be around. When we met you things just clicked and we loved ya from the beginning.

If you leave Vor, you will be dearly missed. Life comes first though.

Your Wife is "till death do you part" FF11 is when the servers shut down or you stop paying your 12.95. It's easy to see which should get your attention more.

Agree with the idea of taking a break for a while. The game will be here for many years. If you just pop on to say hi to friends and do the occasional 'adventure' from time to time it may bring back a lot of the fun of it. Its only natural that after so many years the fun is starting to become much less frequent.

i was in that state of mind a while back (almost 2 years ago)

then I started college, had no time for games, and got myself banned.

anyways...best thing to do...just take a break. If you find yourself thinking about ffxi all the time, and really want to play, then go back.

If not, then you know you dont care about it anymore.

If FFXI is fucking up your real life, and you are having major issues because of it, then just do a bunch of shit and get your account banned. That way, even if you want to come back, you cannot.

ANd god knows starting over isnt an option, effff that.

Not too many people can walk away from FFXI for good and never look back. Look at me, i dont have the time, nor the desire to start over. BUT I still find myself coming on these forums once and a while, just to see wahts new, etc.

I loved FFXI, dont get me wrong. But the two of us needed to part ways. Sometimes it happeneds.

Since you dont seem to have any particular reason to part ways with FFXI, except lack of interest, take a break. Youll know if you miss it when you dont play.

I'm sure youve noticed that with your wife, she may piss you off or be an idiot, but at the end of the day, when shes gone somewhere, you miss her.

I have a question, considering it's usually the "12 bucks a month" people get annoyed with after awhile for FFXI :P couldn't, in reality, SE lower the price to a buck a month and still make enough money to keep the servers up? (I'm betting WoW could easily at this point lol) I mean, how much does it cost to keep their servers up (if you included EVERYTHING like staff, GM, server, other hardware, etc)?

Cause let's say FFXI has 4 million subscribed (at least that's the last I heard XD dunno the number now), that's 48 million a year if it was a buck a month. Isn't that enough to run the servers and still make a bit of a profit? XD and if it were that cheap I'm betting more would return and even more would play.
