Imagining the Tenth Dimension

This reminds me of what a teacher of mine told me once. He said that he had a friend that was trying to prove that numbers ended up at 0, that they're not really infinite. He also suggested of linking that to God: Alpha and Omega. The beginning and the end.

Anyways, groovy stuff.

Wouldn't mind hearing some more about that.

Wanna see a really big number written out?

2^30402457-1 written in long hand.

It's 9,152,052 digits long, so if ya want to see it, it'll take about 5 minutes to download as it is about 10 MB in plain text format. The largest known prime number. Mind blowing that anyone would take the time to figure that out.

I know, it sounds like a very interesting thing. However... the guy was a very freaky Catholic. He kept talking about the end of the world being close... AND he was a French teacher. So he really didn't know anything about it, just knew about the prospect. I could search around in college, since it's down here in PR and our state college is united information-wise. But I doubt I'd remember/have the courage to ask.

PS Puerto Rico won Miss Universe. Yay.

Very interesting stuff, grasped most of it.

Personally though, the only dimension I have ever really cared about was Dimension-X where Krang and the Rocksoliders are from.

It's not as mind blowing as you think =O Computer programs do it and find out the primes, the hard part is making the program, but no one actually finds it out on their own. It also explains why the highest primes are often in a 2^n-1 format, it's alot easier to make a program that looks for a specific type of prime instead of checking every single number.

Pretty sure you can download a program out there to try and find those types of prime numbers. (Random note: I don't know how long it takes to "test" a number, but it can very well take weeks or months on your shiny 3ghz processor to fully test out a single number).

Reminded me of my metaphysical philosophy class when we were going over Barclay (or it might have been Leibenz *sp*) and his argument that all possible worlds (universes or dimensions) come into existence as soon as they are imagined. the idea being that nothing can exist without first having been imagined and it is impossible to NOT imagine something. for example...I can imagine a world in which male mammals give birth and female mammals provide sperm. by the very act of imagining such a world it has come into existence and it's reality/validity is not any less than that of our own world (universe/dimension).

That 10 dimensions thing is spiffy. I like it.

I kinda understood it...
When I'm bored I thing about lots of these type of things.
What I believe: There's only one future, no "alternate" ones, however, the "one" future can be altered BEFORE it begins, by your actions of the present. I believe that you can't visit the past physically~ But possibly you can jump to the future.
Chea. What I believe. If it makes sense.
Oh oh and I also believe, that *if* time travel could happen and you like go to the past and visit yourself...Whatever you do already happened in your own past. Yeah...if that...makes sense...

lol when I'm bored, though...I think dumb things o.O

And umm....Only things I *know* about dimensions...is...the area of a rectangle is lxw, and the volume of a prism is lxwxh or something like that junk, yaaaay~

Well through a drafting perspective they use the x and y axis to create lines in a 2 dimensional drawing. As we all remember from school drawing those cordinates on graphing paper in math class. When drawing in 3-d theres a z axis that goes behind the drawing and toward the person drawing it. Thats basically like spinning the y axis 90 degrees until the x axis is pointing towards you instead of left to right. So when I saw this thread it got my couriasity up as to how there can be more than 3 dimensions since the 3 standard dimensions basically covers everything. I had no idea it would be this involved with time traveling and different possiblities the line causes from event A to event B after being folded and warped around as it stacks with other universal possibities similar to ours with different laws yadda yadda.

I agree with dave's theory about how there could be "alternate universes" in different times rather than going back in ours. If say you were to visit the past and change the event of something, how come that event took place int the first place. During the "actual" time of that event, your future self "should have" come from the future to alter it. And if it did alter it, something different would have occured in the present (this being future from that timeline) thus also altering the event of the future/present of wanting to go back in time and change the past event and therefore would've affected the past again since the future was affected which makes it seem like an endless loop of possibilities and makes you wander how the event can even happen in the first place. Simply put, a time paradox. But going back in time by jumping parallel universes makes more since because your jumping into a completly different world so when it gets affected, it won't affect the one you came from. Its like teleporting from US to say Japan. You go through the whole day in the US and jump to Japan where its daylight again which is like going back in time to the beginning of the day but yet it's in another country so the you came from being US, won't be affected by the events that happened in Japan. I hope that somewhat makes since. This is some pretty interesting stuff though.

That flash video is most likely wrong about how everything works.

First there are a few types of dimensions:
The first is a spatial dimension. Left-right, up-down, back-forth.

How wrong can you be man? What you just described was how to get infinate lives in Contra...
