Most of us are lucky to be born here. I've put myself in the shoes of the illegals coming here to work under the table and send money back saving myself very little. It's not attractive but it's something I probably would do if I were in that position where sneaking into a "1st world" country to make 10 more dimes a day would keep my wife and kids fed for another week.

When you get deeper into the study, I saw someone mention something about paying services to the illegals, which is why we should despise them?... I have a few friends who work for the government, that get paid straight from tax money, and a few friends who can't find a job for the light of day. When I speak with the people who are employed at government jobs, they all have the same view, they sit around and do nothing "most of the time" getting paid. While the people who can't find jobs suck a pack of Ramen everyday just to live. So why not direct your vulgarity towards the people who you are paying to sit around instead of directing it all to the few, compared to the tax-employed, who are in here illegally making shit wages and actually mopping your floors, bagging your groceries and scrubbing your public toilets. You can thank the girl who risked her life to smuggle your weed and rail blocks in plastic wrap shoved up her ass. Off with her too right?

I'm not saying all illegals are productive, but I'm sure there is still some type of struggle going on, either way we have it better than "they" do.

Borders are borders, laws are laws, fine, end of the day - we're all still human. To survive and ensure the survival our family, you do what you have to do. For "illegals", it just takes a little more.

I have let this thread kinda slide because i don't necessarily like to get into discussions over this topic because it is one that i have conflicting views on myself; however, i will explain my position on the subject as it currently is.

The most important thing is to explain the difference between being allowed to live and work in the US and being a Citizen. As far as being allowed to live and work here i am about as open borders as it goes... I think that anyone with a felony free arrest record should be allowed to live here peacefully and make a better life for themselves. That being said Citizenship should be hard to achieve. And yes you should be required to know English to be a citizen. The borders North and South should be secured.

Cort also has an excellent point. If the republic was functioning as it was designed. The US could absorb Canada and Mexico without any serious changes to their countries or ours. Canada would be allowed to keep their health care and Mexico would be able to keep their ... w/e Mexico has and the lets call it North American Government, would be in charge of pooling defense, police and sound monetary policy. Any taxes that any state including Canada wanted to do beyond that for other programs would be their choice as per the 10th amendment.

The thing is that in the governments current bloated form that Union would be a disaster.

Some of the nicest and most useful people i know are illegal immigrants. Do i think they should be deported.. not really... do i think they should be given citizenship.. absolutely not.

The Queen, although just a figure head, only has constitutional powers over Canada. Canada has had sovereignty as an independent country since the Canada Act of 1982. But we're still pretty tight with the British, no argument there. She is afterall, on all our coins and the 20 dollar bill.

I like the USA. And I like Canada. As much as the two sides might not want to admit it, we're all pretty interdependent over here on the North American Continent and hopefully we can all agree to that.

I say, bring the illegal immigrants to Canada. We actually have more space than people (at least thats what I remember from geography, maybe it has changed). We have a shit ton of space for people, especially in the Northwest Territories and the Yukon.

Seeing as we're a little bit harder to illegally enter, most of our immigrants are legal. However, they also clog up our schools with their English As Second Language crap. We have tons of schools in major cities dealing with this problem. It's not a matter of whether an immigrant is illegal or not. Of course, Canada approaches things completely different. We bend our backs for immigrants. We have a lot of older generations coming over and they can't speak a lick of English, but they refuse to learn it, and our country CATERS to it. We have a ton of signs that are not only in English and French, the two official languages, but Chinese characters. People get hired if they can speak English, French and Punjab. Ask anyone who lives in the GTA (Hit..Cheebs.. Been to the zoo lately? lol)

I don't think immigration is a bad thing, and you're going to get this sort of thing no matter what. It just sucks that Canada would rather accomate new Canadians instead of having them learn the official languages. I agree with what Firestreak said - if you choose to leave your home country for a new one, you better lean the language, laws, etc. If yout home nation was so bad, then why would you want to hold onto it so badly? I can agree with that point, in that the country literally wastes money on so many useless endeavors and half-dead ideas they should know better than to back. It's maddening.

However, it's not the money spent that upsets me in the case of illegals. It's the lack of respect towards the US and the subsequent sense of entitlement many of them have. They are owed NOTHING, and lucky to have each day that they are not rounded up and treated the same way they treat each US citizen, daily, with their actions/inactions.

The consequence to them is that I have zero respect for them. It's mutual. It's fair. I'm not sure what dumb shit would expect differently, yet it's quite common to see them bitch and moan because they believe this country owes them something, and that they believe legal US citizens should treat them better.

I make the argument that there is a false idea of entitlement going around with quite a few American citizens, but certainly not Americans as a whole. Hispanic illegal immigrants are doing quite a few jobs that used to belong to students (high school and college). Landscaping, working at golf courses, restaurants, that sort of thing, used to be reserved for people who didn't need full time employment. There is quite a lot of job displacement going on, though not as much as some people would have you believe, admittedly.


The main focus is on resources that are consumed by people who are not putting anything back in. There is an amount of drain on healthcare, taxes, and local law enforcement that would not be there if all of the immigrants in this country were legal. And who do you suppose gets these financial drains passed onto them? The health care business is not biting the bullet to care for people without insurance, the rates just get hiked on people who have it. And guess who else isn't paying school tax for the children who attend the public schools? I'd imagine it's the people who are happy without social security cards and income tax information.

For those who say things like "White Americans owe us because _______": I am a white American. I am an immigrant from Canada, and became a citizen in 2001. My grandparents came to North America from Ireland in 1947. I pay taxes, and I have health insurance. Tell me, what do I owe you again???
