Important!

I've been playing off and on since the US PC release of the game and still love WHM. I do level a lot of other jobs but I still like WHM the best. It's just my personal preference.

BoF is correct. WHM gets boring when you've played the entire game as WHM and repeatedly too. Change is the spice of life, but WHMs rarely get that opportunity.

I use whm to pull Dynamis, as tank for JoL and to melee in Campaign with.

I find to be needed to main heal a nice change of pace occasionally really. :)

Don't get me wrong, I've pulled in dynamis, limbus, parties, etc. I've tanked and kited NMs on WHM. I've done pretty much it all on WHM, at least far more than the average WHM. I don't get into melee that much because my melee set lacks for WHM with no perdu, but I can still compete relatively well even without. However, having gone to dynamis for 2+ years, limbus for 2+ years, end game for 2+ years, sky for god knows how long, sea off and on, etc. and all of it while being WHM 95% of the time is extremely boring. It's not like my other jobs are poorly geared or unable to do the task, it's that there is a lack of reliable and decent WHMs willing to do the job. Of the WHMs I know, I'd take a good guess about half of them avoid going WHM out of shear boredom.

lavi is right after playing whm since forever it completely sucks. I find having a full alliance in my hands as I tank a nm be it fafnir where hundreds of people are watching or at a nyzul with just the people who need me are there exhilarating! When I get bored of tanking on ninja I like to hop on drk and tank that way for a little more excitement.

DD isn't just afk after you press attack. Maybe for a less competent player but I are it as a challenge to do more than I am expected to try and take my job and its potential to the next level.

Also to all those who are saying whm is useful and needed, that's a load of bull. If you enjoy whm then take it as a compliment if you are asked to come on it because most of the time it is because you are a good one. Because in all honesty I would rather not have a whm in my party much less alliance. A rdm can heal, enfeeble, raise and buff. they also help tajr up one less spot on a party that can be used for a second bard or aother blm for the alliance. The only reason I would ever ask someone to come to an event as a whm is if the leader of the ls said for a whm to come and id be asking someone else to do it to avoid playing the job that just feels like a waste of a spot for most situations.

Actually, I'd argue otherwise. WHM is far more useful than a RDM in curing and buffing. With the addition of Shellra V, you get an additional 3 MDB and up to 7 full merited which is over a 5% loss in magic damage. That might not seem like a lot, but it adds up over time compared to other jobs. To add to that, WHM gets +20 to bar spells from legs and another +10 from full merits which can significantly help reduce certain elemental damage like from JoL or Mijin Gakure. So in effect, we add to the defense of the party more so than other jobs. That's not all. WHM gets a large amount of -enm which will help hate in long term fights whereas RDM could get a decent amount, but usually do not use. We can also sub BLM for ES if required without loss of much needed spells, -na, erase, etc.

I wouldn't say that WHM is useless and I am usually asked to come as WHM instead of my other jobs for capped missions. Usually when I do something I come with a RDM (my sister) and we compliment each other in our playing styles. I usually do things like Haste, Regen, and heal the party so she can worry about the enfeebles, sleeping, and nuking. Really I think it depends on the makeup of your group and the playing styles. If you know what you're doing and where you are needed then you can be useful as WHM. Granted sometimes I feel like I'm a little out of place when the party isn't taking damage and/or enfeebled but I'm sure that my buffs and barspells are helping them out. I know that I am not the best WHM in the history of FFXI but I have been told that I do a great job.

Honestly I think anything gets boring if you do it long enough. That's probably one reason why I have played so many jobs although most of them are lower level. Also, WHM is not for everyone.

While all of these luxuries are nice, they are not needed. But as I did say in my post before this one, whm have their situations. Those situations just don't involve many of the things I enjoyed doing when I was in end game. I've been in fafnir fights that had no room for a whm, because if I had chosen the whm the fight would have been a loss. In those low man fights sometimes you have to drop luxuries for necessities. Had we of gotten a whm instead of the rdm than the tanks would have ran out of mp, the healer and blm as well. Sure the protectors would be nice and such, but it's not always there and it's a luxury I made sure me and my shell could live without.

To make a long story short yes and no. As I said they have situations where they can shine, but they aren't necessary to prevail.

In those situations, no not really.

However there are fights where whms are absolutely needed.
And to this I do not point to endgame fights alone, where (let's be honest) fafhogg is easy and I would probably be ok main healing those on my summoner.

For example, a red mage cannot cast Stona as it is a level 39 white mage onry spell.
And by the time a summoner gets Spring water off you are dead.
There is no other job with the luxury of Divine Veil.
As Lavi sais, well geared white mages can get the most out of Bar-element spells from all the jobs, which again on Fafhogg is meh but on Wyrm fights can be vital to push your tanks over 300 elemental resistance which makes the difference of an airborne wyrm's breath attack doing 250 or 3 damage and resisting the added effects of the wing attacks.

I won't disagree that bar spells are nice, but they aren't needed all that much, and make the job of whm even more boring with even less to do with the overall fight.

I hate being bored most of all. So I like to make things more interesting, and just take what is necessary to win, it may not be the easiest way but its a hell of a lot more fun.

Ill even take back what I said about whm being useless, because like evert job they have their situations, I just don't like the job after playing it for so long. To those who like whm more power to you, im not trying to discourage you from playing it, it keeps me from ever having to play it!
